Howdo Guy's and Girl's, last weekend (I may be a week out here as my "sense of time" has gone on the blink) it was the "Back to our Rootes Rally" in the village of Hawkhurst Kent where I just so happen to live. As I'm sure you all know "Rootes" was started here many many years ago with the manufacture of bicycles. Due to family commitments I didn't have the time I wanted to spend at the show and had to go way before all the cars arrived, so here is a section from the first hour odd of opening. That's enough rambling from me, onto some photo's. A beautiful Hillman estate, it just need lowering and some wide steel wheels ;D A pair of Imp's. A Humber estate.. It looks even better from the back... A red Arrow ;D Zooming out a bit! Badged as a Sunbeam Arrow with the steering wheel on the wrong side!! This sticker made me laugh It was on the back window of this rather nice Hillman Minx Deluxe. Sticking with the same colour, a Californian? Something a bit older, a sign written Commer van. This Avenger takes me back a few years, a (then) local taxi company used to run these as taxi's.. I overheard the owner saying it's in original condition.. Rootes almost as far as the eye can see.. Moving on to non Rootes motors, we have a nice pair of Rovers. A Rover 2000 with some side trim missing. It looks like a "work in progress" kinda car.. But still a nice car. Sorry, this isn't the best of photo's. A Morris Minor Post office van. Cool display even bringing a rather thin looking post box It's been many years since I last saw one of these Saab's... One of the many car's I've always wanted to own.. A Triumph Stag. The oldest car that was there at the time, A Ford.. No car show would be complete without one of these ;D Love the slots. Another Rover 2000 hiding in the shade. It may look like the sides are tad on the rippled side, but it's only reflections. This Healey was the best sounding car of the show.. Until...... This Ford Falcon rumbled into view ;D You wouldn't want to see this getting bigger in your rear-view mirror! And a couple more photo's as I like it so much ;D And that was it... Time was almost up, better get on to the family meal.. Well, almost it.. As we were driving away I spotted a rather low car approaching the show! Hhmmm.. now where have I seen that car before..... My Wife understood when I asked if she could turn the car around (I don't drive) and head back to the show.... So I could have a look at this ;D Good to meet you Seth and see your cool car.... Oh, it looks a lot lower in the flesh than on a computer screen ;D

Good luck with the interview today Rian, hope all goes well for you. It's going to be a nice day for your drive to the 'Hampton. Loving the gas bottle cooker thingy :-) It reminds me of my Workshack heater, it has a wooden handle as well.

Hi Rian, I've just spent a good few hour reading though this thread and WOW you and Nicola have had a busy year!! Congratulations on getting married and getting the new house sorted. I wish I had a garage that big, my new Workshack is like a potting shed compared to my old one!!!! Jealousy??? Maybe just a tad The teardrop looks great, certainly worth all the time and effort you have both put in.

To get the rev counter to work with the engine being so far away at the back the cable needed extending quite a bit. The end product was made from 2 rev counter cables with a speedo cable in between. Even at 81 inches long it worked well if kept oiled. Almost at the end of this story now.. Better get the trike painted ;D The chassis/frame got a good couple of coats of black smoothrite, but as it was a boring I didn't take any photos of it... The tank was much more interesting though ;D The fine line tape was put on free hand. Lots of masking tape to fill the gaps... I quite like the look of black flames over white at this point ;D Out came the airbrush t give a light dusting of white followed by plenty of blue. Cutting the template for the logo was the most pain in the 'orse bit of work on the trike!! A splash of colour thats not black or blue. And last but not least quite a few coats of clear went on. All the paint on these panels apart from the airbrush paint can out of a rattle can ;D And that peeps is the end of this little story other than a few pics of the finished trike ;D Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings, if you want to see the trike in action click on the video links below. Cheers Guys. www.streetfire.net/video/heres-the-reedited-version-of-my-trike-video-ho_128360.htmwww.streetfire.net/video/video-of-my-finished-trike-sorry-about-some-of-th_134918.htm

Thanks Terraroot, glad you like the trike. Moving on a bit the Trike was starting to look more trike like ;D To stop the trike looking naked a bit of bodywork was in order. A couple of rear wings were made, steel box frame skinned with ally sheet. A small cover for the battery. Even though the trike had a fuel tank above the engine, a fake tank was needed to fill the gap between the seat and the headstock. Tank one old and dented Kawasaki Gpz305 tank and give it a VERY good wash out. Cut the base out so it will fit well. Not the best of photo's but it shows one of the small ally panels I folded up to blend the base of the tank with the chassis. The "rat look"! Thoughts then turned to trying to give the trike some rear brakes... Cue loads more head scratching Not having much space inside the Westwood rear wheels for fitting brakes... I had to look a little smaller than the norm.. Here is one of the brake disc hub I machined on my very old Southbend lathe. You know I said a little smaller than the norm... Mini moto discs ;D Disc grabbing power from a pair of Gpz305 front calipers.. With a little bit of trimming to the calipers the whole lot just about fitted inside the rear wheels

Time to add a bit more to this story.. To see if Garry's trike idea would work a few bits were thrown into a pile to see what it looked like Yep... Not only looks good but it got the "Pete grin of approval" ;D Mocking up done, time for a bit of work. Chop Chop, the back of The Beasts seating unit gets the chop. To make a bit of room for a Westwood ride on mower trans. While were at the trans, it got cracked open and all the gears removed leaving just the diff, axles and a couple of shafts. At the top right of the photo you can just see a Z200 front sprocket bolted to the Westwood trans brake disc!! Not the original way to get power into the trans, but quite handy if your trying to power the thing with a bike engine ;D Bits of The Beast frame came in handy for mounting the engine on the back of the trike. More metal going on to build a cage around the engine.. Takes me back a bit this photo.. I was single at the time and remember welding this part together at 2 in the morning!!! I'm a tad to old these days for "all nighters" down the Workshack More to come soon, time for some grub ;D

Lot's of cutting, welding, grinding and head scratching thus followed.. But eventually "The Beast" as it had become known was starting to take shape. The Z200 engine dropped in a treat The exhaust was made from Z200 down pipes and a couple of Harley and cans. Even the Qwacker gauges found a home.. Not fancying the idea of high-ish speeds on the original Webb seat/roller thingy, something a bit more low slung and sprung was needed.. The basic frame.. A couple of Z200 swing arms were converted into a pair of wishbones as displayed by Garry ;D A view of the underside.. It feels a long time ago now, back in the days when I had hair Not the best of photo's this one, but you get the idea of the rear end set-up. The wheels are Z200 fronts which meant we could use the cable operated Z200 front brakes and drive the speedo cable from one of the wheels. To cover the workings of a VFR400 rear light, I folded up a cover from computer side covers.. Nice metal to work with, easy to cut and shape ;D Ta-Daa the finished machine.. Well almost finished, I never quite found the time to recover the seat. Much fun was had And many breakages happened But in the end "The Beasts" rubber coated steel drive roller that was the big downfall. As well as getting dented easily, it transmitted all of the road shocks through the frame ans slowly The Beast was getting shaken to bits I did play with the idea of fitting a ride on mower rear axle and wheels, but in the end it would of been too unstable due to it's height!! It was about this time that Garry dropped in and said," Make it into a trike"! As Idea's go... It was a bit of a good one ;D

Good afternoon lady's and Gent's, it feel good to finally have some time to get back on here after all the thrills and spills of house moving and having only four weeks to build a Workshack, before the second move.. Which was moving the contents of my old Workshack last Saturday!! A long day that was!! Anyway, back to the mower to trike fun and games. I bought this old Webb cricket pitch mower to cut my lawn which was more "corner of a field" than cricket pitch, but it did the job quite well Being driven by Pete, it was almost as fast as his Moggie 1000. lol Me being me, I just had to pull it apart for a light resto.. Sorry, no photo's of the finished mower, but have one of the trailer/seat thingy instead.. For quite a while the Webb mower gave me good service, cutting the lawn, thrashing it around the garden, that sort of thing ;D Until I got bored of it's slightly slow pace and started tuning the engine!! A free flowing exhaust was knocked up.. And a custom made inlet manifold to replace the updraft original.. With the new parts bolted on I let the engine warm up for a little bit... Went for a gentle cruse up the garden... And then opened the engine right up for the return trip.. The engine wasn't too keen on this and decided to make it's point by punching the conrod through the front of the block It was about this time that a mate decided to offer me 2 kawasaki Z200's. HHmmm... I feel a plan coming on ;D More to follow very shortly..

Morning Rian, It was great to meet you on Sunday and have you grace the Workshack as it has become known.. It's a bit of a strange place the Workshack as not only does it have it's own "time zone" where at a blink of the eye a couple of hours have suddenly vanished, It also seems to attract people who have something to do with SA!! Which is cool Sorry we didn't manage to get the wheels cut up, still no power down the Shack but I'm hoping that my friendly local (and a bit quiet at the mo) electricity supplier will get things sorted over the next couple of days I hope so as trying to sort out the Shack for moving yesterday in the cold and dark was not that much fun That's a great photo of the tanker by the way ;D Only a couple of photo's to add.. Armed and ready to go!! Hot sparks flying about.. And.... A very short video of Rian cutting just as the power tripped out!! Thanks for putting a couple of links up for my video's on Youtube, if anyone is interested here's the link to my StigsVids youtube channel where you can find entertaining videos of my kinda off roading, drifting and even skiing!! www.youtube.com/user/StigVids?gl=GB&hl=en-GB#p/u
