I hate motorways. They're boring. My Bond hates motorways - it only has four gears and prefers a steady, lorry-driver-annoying 50-odd mph. My eardrums prefer that speed too. So I'm half tempted to go to the gathering down A- and B-roads. Yeah it'll take longer, require some navigation and I may get stuck behind a tractor or two, but it's far more fun I think. I'm not trying to organise a convoy or anything as I don't know when we'll be going, but I was wondering if anyone is thinking what I'm thinking?

I was thinking the same, but in the 13 car convoy, it's just not possible to avoid the motorways. Last year it failed big time, with only 8 cars.. On Saturday I'll take a daytrip tour around the area to drive on some intressting looking routes.

I've seen a bunch of people overhauling a complete wreck in 60 minutes on TV, so why can't I do it in 3 weeks?

I am, as I get bored on motorways, so from our way I'm heading on a route roughly based around the A46, but with little detours. I'm not going until Sunday morning though, so not much help, unless anyone else from this way is going down just for the day?

For anyone heading towards Prescott from the East I can recommend the A424 (from the A40) at Burford towards Stow, then picking up the B4077 which takes you straight across towards Prescott. Wonderful driving roads.

Down to Leicester, pick up the B4455 Fosse Way down as far as Halford where it becomes the A429, down through Moreton-in-Marsh, almost into Stow-on-the-Wold, turn right onto the B4077 thru Ford and Stanway, left onto the B4632 (which used to be the A46) at New Town, then right into Beckett's Lane just before the railway bridge, right at the T-junction (Harvest Home pub opposite), left by the grit bin (signposted Gretton 1), right at the T-junction, thru Gretton Village and straight into Prescott a mile later. 'YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR DESTINATION WITHOUT GOING ON A SINGLE MOTORWAY' The Vitesse is no longer a fan of motorways either due to the headache inducing 3000rpm at 60 mph , so I shall also be looking for the B road alternative. I'll be heading down from Rugby on Sunday morning if anyone does want to form mini convoy on the day ?!

Glad others are thinking the same!
MrSpeedy - I'd have to put up with similar engine speeds, and similar headaches! Hopefully the B-roads will be more relaxed.

I don't think there are any motorways through the middle of wales so happy days, I hate them. Will have to use one to get through Dublin though.

Prescott's 37 miles from home, and I'm packing my car on Thursday night, then coming straight down from work on Friday lunchtime/early afternoon....and it's less than 20 miles from work! Not exactly a blummin' roadtrip!

I love to take the scenic route, although its a bit of a trek from my end anyway... I might have to investigate what Googlemaps says to me a little later today.

I was going to go on the M42 and then the M5 but I have to admit I think I would be better suited to the A46 or the fosse way.
