Afternoon all, this is my Astra Mk2. I started a thread for my last one a few months ago - a blue one that turned out to be about as solid as Bran Flakes! Needless to say its gone to the great scrap yard in the sky now, but for £100 you can't really complain. Anyway I bought this 1.4 one in August for £300. It came with T&T and almost no rust, which made a nice change. I can't share too many pictures unfortunately as most have to go in the mag, but progress has been swift. Last month I took it up to Custom Colourworks in Doncaster, I've got to know Lee and Craig and they kindly offered to give it a lick of paint. As I type it's being sprayed a fetching Porsche shade of pastel grey. Before this I had a Capri with twin 40 Solex carbs on. Needless to say I couldn't let them go to waste, so I'll be bolting them to an XE in the near future. (Courtesy of one of Knight Motorsport Engineering's manifolds) I'm well aware that 40's aren't an ideal size for the redtop, but I'll see how they cope and if all else fails I'll swap to bike carbs instead. Exterior wise think low, smooth, clean with Rota Grids. With a bit of luck it'll end up a little like this rough photoshop. ^Of course the FWD offset ones I've got don't have as much dish, but I think they'll look the part. Anyway, apologies for the massive amount of words compared to pics, but I'll try to keep this thread as up to date as I can.

wow this looks like the identical car me and a mate are making a 4 door GTE rep out off all be it a 4 door lol.
Love these things i've had a 2.0 16v GTE a 2.0 8v GTE and two GTE ragtops.
The police do like to pull these things over though, a copper once said to me "Do you know why i puled you over?" and i said "Becuase i have an Astra GTE?" lol

I'll try and get some pics up of the one i'm working on, its has a new floor, new sills, new arches and various other rust repairs

Today I got 4 of these delivered.... (And agreed to pick up another Sierra twink in 2 weeks time )

sounds like an awesome project, I don't know about rust in uk but in za most mach2s are still on the road and the only rust issue is on models with boot spoilers tend to rot underneath.

^Here they like to rust with gusto! Megajolt is a bit out of my budget at the moment so I’m going to use a 1.6 Cavalier Mk2 dizzy for this project. Anyone have one lying around that they want shot of? I’m also going to have to invest in a FPR and new fuel pump. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which are best suited to the job? I’ve heard good things about Webcon and Facet but nothing speaks louder than personal recommendation.

Yep it's Davey's old car. Managed to get a H&H kit for a very good price so it's all set for engine installation in January.

So this weekend past I made some much needed progress with the Astra. Friend of mine resprayed it in Porsche Sport Grey (plenty of people have already asked if it’s primer), collected my XE and trial fitted the Rota Grids. Once I’ve sourced a set of GTE engine mounts I’ll be all set to put it in. This is going to have to be veeerrryy low to work. Got some Nova 60mm springs that should bring the Astra down 80mm. They’re pigtailed at both ends though, so I can’t chop ‘em.

if you make it look as good as the ropey photoshop ill kiss you haha. Fail and Ill punch you Oh eck! ;D Might speak to Protech about getting some dual rate lowring springs made up. Not sure even 80mm is going to do the job with the diddy Rotas. Thanks again chaps,

Still finding it a bit of a task tracking down reasonably priced mounts but a friend on Mk2 Astra online might well come good tomorrow.
Either way this weekend I'm heading back up to Doncaster where it's kept to start re-assembling the interior and bolting on everything except the front wings. (Makes sense to do that after the engine is in)
