Well browsing on eBay for cars can be a dangerous business and as a result I've ended up with a Clio Williams 3 in need of a little TLC. It's in need of a little bodywork but the sills and arches are all solid, there's just some surface rust in a couple of places and some scratches. Also the o/s front wing is from an earlier Williams so is a different shade of blue. However, all of the electrics work and the interior is in pretty good condition. It's got a stainless exhaust and a cone filter, the exhaust's not really to my taste but I'll see what I can do about that later. It's booked in for an MOT on Saturday so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well and it turns out to be a £970 bargain not a £970 money pit! Just a couple of photos:

Yep, that's the one, she goes really well, there's just a slight blow from the exhaust where the manifold meets the down pipe. Have got the gasket to go in there, so hopefully that'll get solved quickly.

I've also had a 1.8 16v, was a load of fun, and very quick, but damn unreliable

I'm hoping it turns out to be as much fun as my GTI-6, the first signs are very good and I think i'll be tying my hand at sorting out the bodywork when the weather improves next year.

Mine was reliable until the timing belt went, which was my own stupid fault. Should have got it done straight away!

That's first on my list, although I am aware it's a pig of a job. May do the tensioners at the same time.

The cambelt is a doddle on them mate, should only take around 3 hours, worth doing the water pump and looking at the condition of the power steering pump while youve got it stripped down.

What's the best way to access the belt?
I'll take the advise on checking the condition of the pumps.

Its all pretty much from the top with a bit of jacking the engine up/down to get to certain bolts etc.the marks are nice and clear aswell,so pretty straight forward.

Love the Williams Clio, wouldn't mind one in a couple of years.
Be nice to see it given some tlc, well worth doing.
All the best with it.

Thanks for the positive comments, it's been a car on my wish list for a while and I decided to take a chance on this one.

I really really want one of these but having owned a Clio 1800 16v back in the day and paying through the nose for the privileged I just don’t think I can do it.
in 18 months of ownership I went through 2 gear box's a steering rack, a steering column, snapped suspension springs valve stem oil seals, piston rings a full exhaust system and a small bit of rubber fuel hose that cost £150 to replace.
And that was all on a low miles example with full Renault main dealer service history!
Not only that but part prices from Renault are shocking think of a price triple it and you'll still be wrong!
All that said they are great fun to drive, have a real nice old school look even though they are quite modern in comparison to most cars on here.
There a real sleeper as well not many people recognise the Clio 16’s and Williams as being any different from a 1.2 the only real obvious difference to the uneducated is the wide arches.
Quite a few surprised people at the traffic lights lol

Unfortunately she was an MOT failure today However, it was only on a seized brake caliper and associated handbrake operation! It should be easily fixed, I picked up a replacement caliper today, so hopefully it'll be a quick fix to get another years ticket. I also managed to get hold of a replacement parcel shelf and suit carrier, sun visors and a replacement carpet as mine's stained from a water leak. Also managed to find a resource of a Williams breaker only 15 minutes from my house, so I know where to get more parts if I need them.

ahh the classic french hothatch brake caliper issue, do make sure the piston is the same size, you'll need to peel back the boot to check as the exposed section is the same on all bendix rear calipers of this type.
