I know it's a bit early, but seeing as how August is high season for ferries, I'm getting my planning done early. Any advice for a RR newbie? Who's jumped across the pond for RRG's in the past, is there a recommended router over? Dublin, Rosslare or Belfast? I could fly Shannon to Bristol, but where's the fun in that?

Well that sucks, the reply I posted a couple of days ago appears to have vanished!!
Rosslare is an awful route, bad, bumpy roads and ramps and ridges galore at the ferry terminals both ends makes unpleasant driving a guarantee. Plus Irishferries are awful.
Belfast is the nicest route but WAY too far, even for me it's silly to drive from Scotland when the show is basically the other side of Wales.
Which means Dublin to Holyhead is the best choice - did that last year, and will be doing it again. Nice roads, with good scenics, and plenty of pit stop spots.

I agree with Will, having done both Rosslare and Dublin/done Laoghaire I'd recommend going from Dublin. From Limerick VDubbin Belfast is all over the world for you and as Will said Rosslare is a bit of disaster getting onto the boats if your vehicle of choice is anyway low. The drive through Wales is good too

Thanks for the replies chaps, after consulting Google Maps, there's only about an hour in the difference after all. And the sail time is shorter via Holyhead. And I think the evo triangle is on that route too…

the sailing time is identical but stena go from rosslare also stena have the better ferries and staff the road is wibblepoo from fishguard till you get to swansea..........(i have to do this on the bike in june ) theres only about 30 miles in the difference from holyhead and the roads down to glos (a5 m54) are much better all motorway from lumineach too - quicker than n24/25

The cheapest one Whichever allows me the most time at the place; but also depends on who comes with me and what time they want to travel

Also, coming through welshland there's some really fun detours you can take en route, depending on your schedule
