Hello all. Its been a while so id thought id pop up again. I have a 1960s/70s amphicat bought off ebay in a silly beer fueled i can fix that moment. here is the amphicat when i got it. the engine ran then but ever since its been a ball ache. So far ive turned it into this i love jps colours from the old f1 days so that was my colour to go for. It has a 300cc 2 stroke sachs engine which i have no idea how to fix so if there is any experts please enlighten me.

That looks like alot of fun!
Have you got any photo's of the engine/transmission? Someone might be able to help/suggest a transplant option. ;D

You should be able to get bits for the Sachs motor - might have to resort to ordering from Europe though. Whats actually wrong with it. Things like main bearings and seals will (probably) be available from and bearing place and you can get gasket paper for the gaskets. Give us some more info - i'de better stop looking now or i'll be after one too - is it road registered?

put something a bit mental like a cr500 engine in there for some laughs. i'm guessing its break steering? would it still turn alright with the 4 wheels?

a 300cc 2 stroke will be enough fun as it is.
Whats the actual problem though? Being a 2 stroke, you say it ran fine but is now a ball ache, Could be that way if you only ran it on tickover, The plug might be oiled up. 2 strokes need to be given the beans every now and then to keep the plug clean and keep the piston decarbed...

Hi all cheers for the replys. THE engine, well the last owner put some curse word exhaust on it and cut a hole straight out the back of it. That has now gone and tracking down a new one. It is a pain to start its sparking but just not kicking in.
As for other things it has got 6 wheels i ripped one so need a new tyre. Some are road legal mines not but would be a funny thing to take to the pub.
The cool thing about it is that it actually floats which ive tested already.
cheers

I'm now lusting after one of those I've been looking at Argocats but the Amphicat appeals more. No real use for one other than fancying since seeing them on Banana Splits when a child. Anyone else remember Banana Splits from late '60's - Paul H

i always wanted an argo cat which is very similar. look for a Techmseh engine as they used those on the argo's. the argo's were real popular and theres clubs for owners too, thatd be a good source of info.they have the option to fit a 25hp outboard lump on the rear too so it moves a little faster on the soggy stuff. id still have one if i had somewhere to hide it from the wife,my kids would love it. you can get rubber tracks for them too. argos, hovercrafts and all "all terrain" stuff is cool, a 2 seater hovercraft is high on my "must have before I'm too old" list stick with it,id want to attach a spaceship body from a fairground ride onto it........endless possibilities

as above^^ 2 strokes do rely on an exhaust to run properly/at all.

Some are road legal mines not but would be a funny thing to take to the pub. It'd be virtually impossible to get one properly road registered as PLG. I suspect the ones you've seen are registered as agricultural vehicles. That means restrictions on use and nipping down to the pub isn't one of them ;D I'm about to register a Yamaha quad as agricultrual (genuine need and probably will only be used on road for few hundred yards carrying feed , hay etc) and quite easy plus MOT / road tax exempt.
