Went along to this for the first time today, seeing as it is only 20 minutes from my house. Other than having a rather difficult time finding the public parking from the somewhat inadequate signage (I parked in a side road and walked in the end) and their suggested postcode for direction not being particularly close! I had a good time, met some cool people, photographed some nice cars and spent a bunch of time chatting to Mr and Mrs. rmad at the Why Grow Up? Stand. Full set : www.flickr.com/photos/retroscenemag/sets/72157630034090483/Some choice selections Lots of Fords, I do love a nice van! IMG_5958 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Chatted to a nice guy that was part of the Renault Alpine line up, hope we can get some of these chaps to The Gathering as they are all so very nice. Anyone else make it down? Sadly not. As I said in the other thread, I struggle to justify this day for £14, despite it being right on my doorstep. I should have pre-entered for £5 because I saw a few classics while I was out and about today.

I was there, took the kids along to their first ever car show I've got a shedload of pics to wade through and sort, I'll bung them up when I get a minute. I agree the signage getting in was pitful, and tbh you're lucky you were on the street because there was about two miles of mud through a wood to get out. We left around 4-ish just as the rain started but much later I'm not sure if we'd have got out at all. Indeed, it's just as well we went in the family car (my wife's Focus) cos I doubt very much my FD would have got over the potholes and mud Aside from that, there was a good range of cars (but soooooooooo many Fords lol) and the usual chilled atmosphere. Top day out

My first time too. There was some amazingly terrible stuff on show so I was mainly pointing my camera at the ridiculous nonsense people were 'exhibiting' rather than stuff the average RR'er might enjoy. I think my favourite bit was either the 'Ford Mondeo Owners Club' (line-up of more-or-less standard Mk3 Mondeos) or the insane paedophile-themed Minis (I don't think it was intentional, but they certainly gave off that vibe). I did see a couple of my all-time favourite cars though, which was nice. Might stick some proper pics up later when I've gone through them properly

Right, finally sorted my life out enough to get some pics up. Sorry about the delay, basically it rained from the moment we left Bromley at 1600-ish to sorta late Tuesday with the result our house and garden did this... no, that isn't supposed to be an ornamental lake, that's my lawn, that is Anyway, after near two days with no electric I'm back amongst the internetz now. After some nice Firepersons pumped our house out, finishing around midnight Monday. Any Firepersons on here? Cheers! ^^ dunno if a Dennis counts as retro or not Anyway, here are my humble offerings from the Bromley pageant. In no especial order of importance or taste or anything much, really. Just pictures of things that caught my eye for good reasons or bad.... Let's start with something delightfully off-the-wall shall we? How a bout a splendid old Vauxhall Velox? Never sure if that was a misspelling or typo or what Wonderful art deco lights lol This is me and the li'l un in a Velox hubcap. His first proper car show, and he loved it. Reckon that's him firmly on the road to petrolhead nirvana then ;D We all like a nice fastback 'Stang don't we? Even if it's not in Highland Green lol He did cop out and convert the back-ups as well, but I guess we'll let that one go since the rest is so nice I have to say, the show was almost a Ford thing with a few others turning up to make up the numbers. Not that I'm complaining, but sorting through my pics afterwards I was like "God, I took a lot of pics of Fords". Here's a nice fat Escort for a start Random Wolsey/Elf/Hornet/Mini-with-a-boot detail pic Lovely TWR-kitted XJS. Complete with "that" spoiler lol. Y'know, the one where someone coming back off their tea-break at the TWR lock-up suddenly spat out his tea and cried "Bloody hell, we've made the spoiler blade too wide!". "Never mind", the gaffer reassured him, "we'll drill a nice hole in one end so the electric aerial can rise up through the spoiler and no-one will ever know." No-one except those who open the boot with the ignition and radio on and then spend a while on the phone to the local Jag parts desk buying a new aerial assembly at £86 plus VAT a go bonkers TVR Vixen with Mk I Cortina pie-plates. Hmmm. Styling's a tiny bit awkward, it's fair to say Harris had a line-up of seemingly hundreds of awesome Fords (as you'd expect I suppose). Here's a nice shiny set of trumpets from a Capri to be getting on with A few cars came with mock-Tudor front ends complete with statuery Various TR-7s and 8s made for the best club stand display of formation parking that I saw ...although this li'l '4 seems to be striking out on its own. Possibly my personal favourite of the Triumph roadsters Some lovely examples of tigers on the Sunbeam stand Arbitrary arty shots lol. Sorry, I can't help myself, there'll probably be a lot more of that The utterly beserk and completely ludicrous, yet strangely awesome '50s Studebaker business coupe (as made famous recently on that Desert Car Kings programme). It's bonkers enough from the back, with that humongous boot and fighter-cockpit-on-backwards glasshouse... ...but damn if it ain't even more bonkers round t'front and frankly, if bonkers looks this fantastic (in every sense of the word) why the hell not? Love this thing, what a mad, mad car

I normally try to not take pics of cars straight side-on cos it rarely flatters them, but in the case of old Stingrays it's the law. Is there a more perfect coke-bottle profile than this? Big ol' Chevy Step-side. With visor, gotta love that! Hmmm, faux wire wheels. Fashion disaster or forgiveable styling excercise? Discuss lol Considering the reputation Stags have for reliability issues there were certainly a lot of them made the trip to Bromley Speedster looking immaculate in Essex Stilletto White Very clean! Plenty of vulgar modern plastic Datsuns. Lol, kidding. I like a nice Skybus as much as the next man, but I'm going to Japshow this weekend and didn't want to O.D. on them That lineup of Harris 'scorts. Harrii? Harrises? Errr, dunno Tidy! More arty shiny hubcap stuff See? Just endless Fords, everywhere you looked. Mind, nothing wrong with a supercharged Pop, is there Rather unusual take on the Scimitar, a sorta coupe version rather than the normal liftback. My knowledge of Reliant marque history is a bit hazy, sorry. The obvious place for a radiator gauge is on the radiator. Modern cars are so needlessly complicated! Can never see an RS2000 without getting nostalgic for a miss-spent youth watching the Professionals on telly World's scariest delivery truck

Very tidy RX-7 FB Series 2. Not that I've any trace of bias at all, of course Renault Spider thing ...and a lovely old Renault 8 (I think) preparing for a parade lap of the show arena I forgotten these things even existed, a Sunbeam Rapier. My old man's boss had one of these when I was about six and I thought it was properly cool. Now.... not so much The legendary "Royal Male" Moggy van. Probably the ultimate sleeper of all time bet this has surprised a few people in the traffic light grand prix Those of us "of an age" will remember the trepidation this sight used to bring out in you... If you're gonna have a shocking pink Cobra 427 I think you need to be either a) very comfortable with your sexuality or b) a girl ...and it is very pink ;D Giant Yank pickup. No idea what, but it was very well finished. Some sort of Ford (again) is it? Someone'll let us know, no doubt NSUs. Soooo cute. Shame they're not righteous rotary ones though Love the Blue Peter rear light treatment too See? Nothing but Fords wherever you look Oooh, a Mini just for a change. Properly original, very nice A whole passel of Jensen Interceptors had defied the stories of terrible rotting to turn up, and very spiff they looked too ...and this lovely 541R coupe shared stand space with them Hmmm. Wonder if those eyebrow fenders are a homage to the Merc SL. Or just a blatant ripoff, lol

To think these little fellas were once the Way Of The Future OK, I like shiny things. Sorry... Brown isn't normally a colour you'd think of as working well on cars but this lovely two-tone 3000 MkIII Healey proves that wrong. Well, let's call it copper rather than brown shall we? Couple of sweet dinky little pocket-sized Honda 600s More sorted Harriserry The forgotten Japanese supercar, the Mitsi GTO. Madly complex engine repsonds well to the polishing mop Lancia Fulvia, lovely example and presumably one of very few that haven't gone back to the soil, sadly Wouldn't e a car pageant without a flame-rod. Not that I'm suggesting this has been done before or anything. Still, very nice finish and quality Errm, plenty of old Jags. I felt obliged to take a few pics, though E-Types have never really "done it" for me. And yes, I'm aware that puts me in something of a minority This wasn't your average common-or-garden Frogeye!... ..I expect this surprises a few people on trackdays Oh, OK, maybe I was a bit harsh on the E-type. Here's some more for all those afficianados out there lol Even an arty one. Happy now? lol Big DS Citroen. Always a top sight. One of thos erare designs that was so out-of-time I guess it'll probably never get dated ...a bit like this really "that" whaletail was so mad it'll never go out of fashion ;D One of my favourite bits of American insanity, the el Camino ...after all, who wouldn't want an eleven second pickup!?

Another strange old Vauxhall, the Cresta. Again, have to love any car with a red sun visor! Like a little 1/3rd scale Chevy Bel Air copied from a picture in a magazine in the lead designer's lunchbreak. I mean that in a good way MkI Cortina convertible. Must be one of the rarer cars there, I'd have thought Apparently celebrating it's 50th birthday? does 2000rpm even when the engine's not running And lovely though it is, I have to confess I'd prefer one like this Here's something. Whoever would have dreamed the humble Corsair would become a classic? This one has had an awesome conversion, what a bucketload of work there is in here! wagon, too. What an excellent choice for such a restomod I can't imagine how many hours went into this engine bay. Humbling Bit of a scary-looking beast... For no very easily understood reason Santa Pod brought a demo funny car thing along. Which was, to be fair, quite an inspirational vehicle Love the carbon intake hood Reckon these may be quite loud

Great pics, BUT this thread upsets me because it shows me how much i missed - like that Consul for example (love it). Not to mention the WGU stand - er which I've already mentioned. There was me saying "not so many cars this year, bit of a shame yada yada"
I have completely failed at this year. I only took four or five pics all day - and they were all of the same car! Anyway I'll try and post them some time soon.

The MX-5 owners club had about the largest acreage, which I guess isn't that surprising when you think how many of the damned things there are in the world lol. Most of them, well... most of them were pretty unremarkeable MX-5s, to be fair Some of them were pretty attention-grabbing though, some very nice builds with a lot of work in them and though I can't feel the love for this sorta thing personally, I certainly respect the amount of work that's gone into it I guess it doesn't get driven much, though I believe this one is the presumably extraodinarily rare and expensive Garage Vary kit, though I stand to be corrected on that one Not all the owners seemed to be enjoying the show as much as they might... For me, this was the star of the MX-5 stand. From the front it looks like a normal-ish wide Miata, fairly tidy and with nice wheels ...OK, very nice wheels. And some one-off bodywork ...but as you get further round it you realise just how much of a transformation it's had and how much work has gone into it Like, just wow! An MX-5 coupe. Awesome From some angles it looks like there's hints of Ginetta or Marcos or something about it. Hats off to the builder. I just hope it doesn't simply crumble into a wreckage or filler at the first speedhump There were a fair few Fezzas scattered throughout the fields, A cluster of them jammed into a surprisingly tiny space on the OC stand and out in general population as well. The 80's ones are still "the" Ferraris for me ...especially when compared to the big, gloopy "styling" on modern ones like this 599. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd still have one, like Mmm, enough carbon? The owner of this 348TS clearly has a sense of humour, judging by the Halfords wing nailed to the boot It's a funny one, the 348, I can never quite shake off the feeling I may have just been duped by a MkII Toyota MR2 in a bodykit ;D This is nice though... Got some more to come, but unfortunately, duty calls. Gotta go to work Moar later

...and a lovely old Renault 8 (I think) preparing for a parade lap of the show arena Renault 8 Gordini - my first car was a standard R8, taught me a lot about car control mainly the hard way , always had thoughts about a mid engine version. Interesting camber on the rear.

The boring standard ones are all from the OC and the modified ones come from the mx5modsters forum Next year we hope to get a stand away from the OC so we don't get tarred with the same brush ;D

Spoiler is on backwards on the Ferrari as well major lol!!!
I've been along to this the last 3 years but find it expensive as I get there mid afternoon after church. Parking in the side roads near Hayes lane is the best bet or the other end off the A21. Last year I got there at 3 and wandered around the little car park in Norman Park, then through to the show field unchallenged ;D seeing as stuff was just starting to leave i felt fine with that lol
Its a good show but not if it's wet as there is very little shelter and it's quite exposed (I should know I play a minimum of 4 games a year there for my footy team!!)

Thanks. I was halfway there ;D Interesting camber on the rear. Yeah, it does look slightly odd. Especially when the front errmm... isn't No, 1957 Chevy Task Force Thanks. It appears I suck at pickups what you have there is a mixture of the OC and another forum. The boring standard ones are all from the OC and the modified ones come from the mx5modsters forum Next year we hope to get a stand away from the OC so we don't get tarred with the same brush ;D Hmmm, do I detect the whiff of politics, lol certainly explains the slight difference of ethics on car presentation, and I know which style I prefer. One group seemed to be enjoying themselves a good deal more, too, but I won't get into that OK, last few pics for you then. How about some bikes for a change of pace? Not many there, but the ones that were bear a bit of scrutiny. Some sort of CBX1000 owners club had brought along a selection of Honda's daft but amazing six-cylinder behemoth What a lump! Incredible. Just one more example of Honda "we'll do it just because we can" engineering ethos. Mind you, many owners must have cursed that ethos when trying to balance six indivdual carburettors I very much liked this streetfightered one, with modern running gear and brakes that... well, brakes that actually brake A set of these each side because we all know more exhausts wins at Top Trumps Not a Gold Star but still lovely detail Some absolutely gorgeous old Kettles (Suzi GT750 two-stroke triples, nicknamed Kettles because of the shape of the cooling water jacket). Very advanced bike for its day, silly rare now Some Autosol's gone into this kiddie Fizzie Fifty! ;D The 'ped that launched a thousand baseball-booted paddock-jacketed chip-shop grand prix. Whoever thought this'd become a classic!? Should really be Speedblock Yellow though lol Kawasaki HIII 750 triple two stroke widowmaker brought into the modern era with proper forks and running gear. If ever a bike needed it. Lovely to see some proper spannies too. I loves two-strokes, does it show? OK, OK, enough bikes then. Back to cars. What about some random old Citroen? Well before my time, so I'm not even gonna try to name it, but damn it looks well A Capri. No, not that sort... Loving the swoopy lines and details, even if the Aemrican-ish styling looks a little clumsy in places ...but I guess this is what most of us think of as a Capri Loads of American cars as always. A lot of fifties stuff, which is a bit out of my remit to be honest. I tend towards later muscle cars, but I'll have a go. Errrm... Pontiac. Chieftan? Star Chief? Something like that Cadillac. That one's easy lol My little boy loved this cos it's like a red version of Flo from the Cars films. Well, it's progress I suppose I guess it ain't something you'd want running over your foot lol. As always with cars of this vintage, I love the bonkers Art Deco dash stylings Someone's gonna have to help me out again with this one. It's some flavour of Buick, that much I got lol Definitely don't see kerb feelers on enough cars nowadays Need help here, too. It's a Dodge. Something. With chrome eyebrows. Gotta respect that hahaha and while we're on the subject of bizarre Americana... completely at random and arbitrarily, here; have an A-Team van ;D

Right, segueing seamlessly from Yank stuff via the little British American styled car ...well I always thought it was like a 1/3rd scale Yank tank anyway. Nice to see sooooooo many Anglias still up and about. Even if it does mean yep, more Fords lol I'm not generally much of a lover of BMWs tbh. Which I suppose is as much my fault as it is the cars, but I did manage to motivate myself to take a couple of pics of some that were undeniably pretty smart Wasn't it nice, the days when there was an English car industry for its companies to feel proud about? Here's something. From the front it looks like a Beetle (cos it is) albeit a slightly funny one ...but you don't really realise just how funny until you get round the side... Awesomes! it's a van. Yet also a Beetle. It's a Beetlevan and I want one! It's also fair to say that this; ...is not your average Bond Bug I felt slightly scared just standing next to it, the owner must clang when he walks if he uses it anywhere near its full potential A load of lovely old Z-cars were there. One of my favourite Japanese cars. Arguably, one of my favourite muscle cars too Nice spoiler lol. One of those'd look well on an FB Speaking of FBs... series 2 Elford Turbo, complete with the kit and everything. Very rare beast nowadays Loads of engineering one-offs, including the Hi-Spec big brake conversion and an engine bay crammed with goodies
