As some of you may have noticed, I suggested that I should get the ball rolling on the Midlands Convoy. I guess being silly enough to elect myself, the organisation should begin . Anyway, without further ado, may the Midlands chaps notify me of whereabouts they are based in the Midlands (either on this thread or by PM if you prefer that). That way, at least I can think about a starting point/route to Breen . Those who wish to join the Midlands Run can also put their name down on the thread, so that such factors (travelling etc.) can be taken into consideration. EDIT: A meeting point has been decided; Junction 5 off the M5 at 8:00am : Above image was shamelessly stolen from Brian Damaged (thanks for the clarity of them and going to the effort of making it!). Attendees:Chas - White Stag Misterbob - Leonard Violet Vivid+1 - Odie timbaker - Polo Jason - 200 BRM Rysz - Shuttle Brock05+1 - Volvo? pete127 Stefan - Brat Sowen - P6 Anglia 68

Traditionally I've travelled down on Saturday and spent the (drunken, usually) night at A52 before heading down to Brean with Bruce and the gang.
This year though other commitments (I've been DJ-ing at my local football club on Matchdays and it looks like I'm taking over as matchday announcer as well now) mean that I'm restricted to travelling down on Sunday.
Plus the chances of me having anything interesting to take down are minimal at best. The Benz is being sold as soon as I've MOT'd it, I'm going back to a (probably modern) Gallic shopping-trolley of some description.
So if anyone's passing Damaged Towers (just off J4 of the M5/J1 of the M42) and has a shotgun seat in the Mids convoy (and doesn't mind putting up with my inane babble en route) I'd appreciate it. Will happily cough up towards fuel costs. I'll have my camera gear with me, so some M5 tracking shots of everyone would be a cool addition to the archive of Beach Party pics! ;D

Keep the names coming . As said I plan to stop/meet at a couple of places with people. Pete127, the route will depend on how many come and where they are based. After all, no one enjoys getting lost. Either way, I doubt all of us will be blasting our cars . BD, I shall let you know closer to the time if I can do it (this will depend on the car I have and whether a friend of mine comes down (He would never take his Mini that far!).

I'm just outside Telford but my car has just come off the road for some much needed TLC so might not be able to bring 'the interesting one' until its done

Count me in if it's the A38 but if it's the M5 I'll give it a miss.

Not sure wether I'll be staying overnight on Saturday or travelling down on the Sunday yet.
It'll be my birthday on the Saturday so might spend it in Weston-S-M or near by.

I'm up for this, not sure if I'll be taking my 305 or 230CE yet. I'll be coming from Norfolk, so will join the convoy at an appropriate place once it's been established.
However, Brain Damaged, you're welcome to catch a lift with me fi you need it.

I'm Northfield/Longbridge way, just off J4 of the M5. I might be able to help if you need a lift BD, since I'm about 4 miles from you!

I'm tempted, I'm in Leicester & would love to convoy!
Would be in Odie, my Imp, soo won't really be going faster than 65-70mph (saying this in case anybody is planning to go faster )

xXx Fear not Violet (or others reading this thread with trepidation!). I will probably stick to not going beyond 70 in any of the retros I take on the day (with the exception of the 205 (which does near 4,000rpm at 70MPH) the 944 and Stag are not what you would exactly call frugal ). That and I soon got used to doing 50MPH in the Stag at one point (the thread will say more) and the Mini/Spitfire (albeit that was 65MPH!) That and no-one enjoys getting lost . After reviewing the routes, how do most chap feel about the M5 with a couple of stops (I.E a swift break/place to meet up with others etc.) to Brean? I know that for me it is the best part of over 100miles one way . Keep the ideas and the names coming chaps .

I'd suggest a meeting point somewhere south of the M42/M5 junction, so that people coming from either east or west of Birmingham don't have to backtrack to meet up.
Just off J5 of the M5 there's a Premier Inn/Maccy D's. Petrol available half a mile up the road, too.
From there it's 96 miles to Brean via the M5. Services at Strensham (18 miles) Michaelwood (30 miles) Gordano (21 miles) and Sedgmoor (16 miles) for those with weak bladders. ;D

I'll most likely be coming along, after Violet brought this to my attention! Sadly the TVR won't be done in time, and I don't have enough faith in Leonard's current engine for that sort of journey. I might however, bring my V8 90 along instead (winch equipped in case anyone gets sand-bogged) We might also be dragging our mate Gareth along too, who's just bought an early MX5

Heya
Looking at the routes we'll be grouping up at Hopwood Park, as MisterBob & Gareth will be coming down teh M42, and I myself will be going the M69 *giggle* route
Any idea on where we're all meeting up on the M5, and also what sort of time to aim for?
xXx

I shall confirm closer to the time, but BD makes a good suggestion (backtracking/staying en route is one consideration I was making). For chaps coming from Leicester/Derby way, I am happy to start off from Longbridge roundabout at the Porridge Pot (Pub) car park, just opposite the Hilton hotel at the M40 Jct 15 and the where the A46 crosses it to proceed along to the M5 Jct 5 . Porridge Pot map linkC'mon Misterbob, you have to bring the TVR! I barely have enough faith in the Stag (and you know about the reputation they come with) and I have taken that to FUCEMs and the Ace Cafe .
