You can go from Holyhead along the length of the A5, and then through Owestry, Shrewsbury, Hereford and over to Tewkesbury. That's the simplest, easiest, most economical route and all pretty straightforward.
If you want a bit of nice roads, down from Bangor to Dolgellau, and past Snowdon, and across the A458 to Welshpool, and down to the A49 route above Ludlow and on to Hereford et al. It's a bit longer, but more scenic, quieter, more spirited roads. A good one for going over, the other route good for a tired drive home.
Both tried and tested and plenty of stopping points.
Going via Rosslare leaves you on motorways most of the way which are pretty busy and very boring, with some hard gradients which are hard on low powered oldies, and you get all the Cardiff traffic as well. Plus Irishferries that run that route are ignorant and their ferries are nasty. Stena run from Dublin - get that one. Nice boat, and lower ramps than the others, and they are more accommodating than others if you have issues, like very low ride height or a non-start.

Might be worth contacting Creena at 360 in Limerick for a price on ferries. They do packages and stuff for a lot of the motorsports teams hopping across the pond. Phone: +353 86 4057752 / 086 4057752 Email: creena@360sl.ie www.360sl.ie

I paid €300 for the ferry, about €200 in fuel (estimating 4 tanks, which is overkill, but covers the trip to Shelsley Walsh on Saturday too, as well as the possibility of getting carried away in the Welsh coutryside ) £30 per head camping, £8 ish for tickets to the hillclimb on Sat. bbq/food/beer/pocket money after that! We're on the 8:00 Friday Morning Irish Ferries sailing, should be in Holyhead for about 11:30. Planning to come down the A5, possibly with detours as per surprisingskoda's suggestions above.

I'll be burbling over on the Dublin Holyhead on probably the 2.15am to 5.45 Friday morning sailing, or possibly the 8.20 to 11.50 one if I take a nap first.

Are you doing the old, "Rock up and pay at the door" trick again? It'll be interesting to see what the differences in prices are like.

Yeah. Will be probably about £130-150 sterling whatever that works out at. That's what it was in Holyhead 2 weeks ago anyway. And same to get home.
