Car was last Tax'd in the 90's long before SORN guessing this makes it ok ?, but wondering if i should declare it SORN it to keep myself right ?, have the V5 in my name, had the car for two years (bought as a shell) recon it'll be another two - three years before it see's the road.

Given you have a recent V5 I'm surprised they haven't been trying to make you pay for not Sorn'ing it!
Personally I would do a SORN as you never know if they try and make you backdate...
You don't have to renew the SORN any more, is permanent till you want to tax it.

I'm pretty sure you cannot SORN a car if it has not been taxed since about 2000. If you are worried about losing it's identity, though I think that is extremely unlikely, you could just phone them or write a letter just to confirm? My Rover P6 had been off the road since 1980, and I had no trouble getting it back on the road, no questions asked when I went and changed the tax class from PLG to Historic  |

I would SORN it I got fined for not having my car sorned because it wasn't insured It was on a private driveway mot'd and taxed Needs a bit of work and I hadn't had the time to do it and I got £100 fine Bill |

You can't SORN a vehicle that hasn't been taxed since it came in, I have tried when it first came out with about 20 of my bikes and i think i still have the letters saying it doesn't apply. |

If its taxed its got to be insured, unless its in trade, in which case they can't tax it/ sorn it or cash it in...... |
