Just be aware they can be a bit rapid off the mark, especially if your boy does what my kids have done a forget to close the throttle once they get going, have got a lanyard kill switch on the back of ours so I can yank it and kill the engine if they look to be about to do something especially silly + it means I get exercise running about after them! I can't believe they were throwing that away - way more money than sense some people....

is it safe to paint helmets? It can be depending on what paint you use and the type of material used to make the helmet. I don't think that there are many materials in use today in approved helmets (on the outer shell) that are likely to be degraded by common paints. You do need to ideally remove all the interior padding/ foam and rubbers before spraying as these will be degraded significantly if they get sprayed. Helmets also degrade over time and exposure to UV...... Obviously if the outer shell is damaged you don't use it - do the world a favour and cut the straps off before chucking it away

I plan on restricting it to start with. maybe weld a little bracket near the card and thread it, put a bolt through. Minimum revs to start with and wide it out as he gets used to the throttle. The helmet is a quick fix, it like a heavy duty childs push bike helmet. He will only ever ride it on grass. I will also get him a chest guard. he's got good balance ..... its the fact he has no fear that will be the problem. The remote cut off sounds a good idea. This was him at 3.

after a good rub down, sand and good clean, we turned to garage into a little spray booth. We took it in turns to spray. The paint works not the best, there is some runs but he's got to learn / start somewhere bit more elbow grease in between coats before after out in the sun to bake ordered some stickers too yellow spray paint £6.88 stickers £5.88 build cost so far £12.76

Just recently got rid of my sons quad, whole pile of fun. I put a solenoid in his with a electric gate receiver and used a gate remote to kill the motor. didn't have to run after it lol. I see your son is like mine and is a bit tough on bikes, my son managed to ramp it off a half metre step and bend the chassis. I did find tyres were expensive and the wife was griping he was tearing up the lawn. One day a trip to the lawnmower shop and realised ride on mowers have same size bought 4 second hand tyres for the quarter the price of 1 quad tyre and the wife is happy not tearing up the lawn.
