I've had a couple of rent cars through work over the past week which gave me a chance to drive something different. All but 1 of my cars have been over 10 years old, and most are more like 15+ probably like most of you on here..
Not that I was expecting to be blown away, buy I was very underwhelmed.
The first was a Seat Leon 1.6 tdi. Drove alight, averaged about 50mpg - not earth shattering. Seats were a bit hard as well.
The second was a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 petrol. This was only 5 days old with 17 miles on the clock. I figured it was my duty to take it to the red line to break it in, but even so it was DULL. it averaged 37mpg - not amazing. It also felt very wide. I'm sure a foot of the width it made up from the depth of the doors alone!! Things like the stereo/main console display looked awful...it could have been almost lifted from a 15 year old vectra.
Both were 2013 cars, decent specs - cruise, bluetooth, sat nav (on the seat).
Bluetooth - handy, but my volvo has a nokia car kit that works just as well. Sat Nav - I've got a tomtom. Cruise - the volvo has that, plus more..
They were ok to drive..nothing more. I didn't expect to fall in love, but I thought that maybe things would have moved on more than they have!
I was supposed to go upto Leicester today, but didn't have to after all. I still have the Astra, and could have taken it to work, but I didn't. I rolled the Capri out the garage and turned up with a smile on my face despite having half an interior, the engine tapping away and the various rattles & rust.
