Oooooh - looking very nice and coming together hopefully in time for the weekend So close...! We got the gearbox and props in this morning, then started on fitting the engine... By the time we knocked off, we were pretty much all in, last job of the day was fitting the recored radiator. I've reshuffled work so I can get back on it tomorrow and finish, double check everything and get some fluids into it. Hope to have it running by lunchtime, and then triple check and set the Weber up.

Yesterday we got the truck running, timing sorted, carb adjusted, CO2 test etc, and a test drive... Sorted! Huge thanks to DLF for the engine rebuild and hand-holding! They are stars, a super talented and really sound crew, check them out... Dlfclassiccars.com www.facebook.com/pages/DLF-Classic-Cars/212561501675This was done in between some rolling road sessions. The morning was booked by the guys from Stromberg carbs, testing set-ups on a Model T rod with a corvette engine... The afternoon was booked by a race team with a turbo drag bike, this thing was recording 430bhp with room for more. I didn't get any photos unfortunately, had a brief peek, but the thing sounded insane. So, drove the truck home this morning, it was beautiful. It's also a test of patience now, as I have to run it in and can't go over 3000rpm Retro Kings at Snetterton tomorrow

500 miles into running in, all good, and it pulls like a train. Finally scored a genuine Suichuuka shift knob too, been after a 'flower' one for ages. The original jdm ones are now getting very rare, even in Japan, I'm told.

I've had some timing chain rattle develop on idle, at first I thought it may be the tensioner- put in a new one on the rebuild but maybe a bad part. On some internet digging it turns out all L series engines will get slack in the timing chain if the head or block has been skimmed, and the easiest way to fix this is to install shims under the cam towers. By wondrous Japanese design, the cam towers share the same bolt pattern and shape across the L range, and fortunately a Nissan/Datsun Z specialist in Essex had a set on the shelf. They were in my hand the next morning. Installed them today Rockers removed, Cam out, taking huge care that the timing chain didn't come off etc Shim installed, one at a time Totally sorted the problem. Running super sweet!

To celebrate, and considering I've all but run in the engine, we put the truck on the DLF Classic Cars rolling road. Just a run to see how it is, will do a proper session and set up in another couple of hundred miles. And behold the awesome power! Very happy, it should be a little higher next time too

Those shims are a master stroke! Though wouldn't they cause valves to not open quite as far (by however thick they are), not that it matters too much if it works =)

Cam should open the valves the same amount, the shim size will be compensated by adjusting the valve/cam clearances

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

Torque curve looks lovely too, I bet we could get an M45 on there easily enough

Cheers Tom! Out with the old front shocks, more resistance on a bicycle pump... In with the new, less bouncing on the bumpstops! KYB Performance Shocks will do for now... Need to have another play with the torsion bar height now I have suspension again.
