I see you have a been quite a busy guy! There are some lovely touches on this car The FMIC no doubt will bring a number of benefits to the game. I love the job that has been done to the stock 944 wheel, it must make it far nicer to use than the original item.

Thanks Chas. The wheel is lovely. It's not as nice to touch as the alcantara one, but it's better to use! I had an idea that I could use a compound hinge to move the pivot point. So made one out of 2 hinges I had lying around (after putting them in the vice and whacking them with a hammer until their action was suitably stiff!). Here it is: 20150530_195455 by duncancmartin, on Flickr Unfortunately, while it moved the pivot point forwards, it didn't move it up enough. So now I have 2 options. 1. I could add a sliding mechanism as well. That will definitely allow the pivot point to sit higher and allow me to open the lid properly. Only question is whether I add a sliding mechanism to where the hinge bolts to the metal plate in the dash, or at the grille. 2. I could add another hinge! That would be simpler than the sliding mechanism and would also move the pivot point of the top hinge up. I think I'm gonna do #2 if I can find another suitable hinge! Cheers Duncan

I fixed my grille last weekend. Used it to hold my phone on the way to Brooklands today. I welded on a third hinge, which moved the pivot so that the back edge of the grille didn't catch the dash, but it still would not sit down properly. So I then had to cut the base plate and bend it down so that the bottom-most hinge was below the edge of the dash. It all works now - the compound hinge mechanism works beautifully. The only irritation is that I bought a ball bearing hinge as it as nice and stiff and smooth, but when I welded it to the others it loosened up, so it doesn't stay where you out it over bumps. The modifications to the base plate made it a bit of a mess (and a bit flexible too), so I'm going to make a new one, cut it in the right place and then weld the bend so that it is solid. Then I'll paint it black, so it's not obvious... This is what it looks like when closed: 20150531_175319 by duncancmartin, on Flickr I'll take a pic of the new base plate when it's finished but before it goes into the car... Cheers Duncan

Well this got left for longer than I intended (same as the car)! I still haven't done the proper version of that phone holder base plate! However, it went back to JGC for a service and a few minor changes (like swapping the 400lb springs for some 200lb ones!). It's got a new starter motor, new front springs, reconditioned steering column, proper service, and it's running properly again. Oh, and we couldn't get the suspension right with the tyres that were on there, so it's gone down a little (from 205 50 R16 to 195 45 R16). All polished up, just before I collected it, it was looking like this: 924 lower and shinier than ever! by duncancmartin, on Flickr 924 lower and shinier than ever! by duncancmartin, on Flickr 924 lower and shinier than ever! by duncancmartin, on Flickr 924 lower and shinier than ever! by duncancmartin, on Flickr I collected it and drove it home today. It's ace! The suspension is much less crashy, the steering is nice and direct and not too heavy, and it loves the cold air on booooost! The underside could do with some rust prevention, so that's next on the list of proper things to do, but I should also clean the interior and the engine bay - they kinda let down the overall area of shininess! It'll never be finished, but then maybe that's the point - at least it's usable now. Hopefully that means there won't be such big gaps between updates... Cheers Duncan

The combo of two tone and those wheels is spot on! I think the look of the 205/50s was a little more muscular, and I liked that, but having the suspension set-up properly, and therefore driving right is way more important, and it still looks super cool. I had the same situation on my Rx7, where the slightly chunkier 195/55s looked great. but going down to 50 profiles meant I could get some decent steering lock without catching the arches!

I collected it from www.autowaxworks.co.uk/ today. They steam cleaned the underside, brushed all the flakey rust, converted it all and then applied Dinitrol underseal wax. They also put cavity wax in the sills and rear box. I should have taken a few pictures underneath when it was up on the ramp. You'll have to settle for a few pictures I took on my way home: 2016-02-19_01-00-01 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 2016-02-19_01-00-19 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 2016-02-19_01-00-36 by duncancmartin, on Flickr The door cards and seats were steam cleaned... 2016-02-19_01-01-07 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 2016-02-19_01-01-24 by duncancmartin, on Flickr And the engine bay too: 2016-02-19_01-01-46 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 2016-02-19_01-02-05 by duncancmartin, on Flickr The rust is peeping through the paint on the front wing, so I need to find a replacement or get it repaired, but at least the rest of the car is not going to rust away! And it's nice and shiny again. Cheers Duncan PS 924 Owners Club meeting at Ace Cafe on 5 March. This, plus some other tasty 924s will be there. If you've got a 924 then come along (or if you want to get one but don't yet have it, though you'll have to park in the naughty corner!).

Wow. I have so much love, for that interior, it's verging on obscene!
Is it still the original pasha cloth? I've been eyeing up some cloth on eBay.

The passenger seat has a few splits on the seat base, but the drivers one is still really good. As well as eBay, you can get pretty much all the different sorts of pascha from www.werk924.com/ and they also do entire seat covers. If I had the cash I'd get myself some Porsche sports seats and recover in pascha, but they are really pricey and my car budget is going to go on sorting out the front wing for now... Cheers Ducnan

Front wing finally sorted, I collected it yesterday and today I took it on track for the first time at Porsche Silverstone as part of 92Forty. I may post another thread if I have any decent pictures of he droolworthy machines there (including a 924 GTP, 2 924 GTS, a 924 GT, the backwards 924 and a whole bunch of standard and interestingly modified cars), but here's them from mine after it was washed last night: IMG_20160520_210458 by duncancmartin, on Flickr IMG_20160520_210449 by duncancmartin, on Flickr IMG_20160520_210527 by duncancmartin, on Flickr

Looking patinated parked up next to Richard Kirk's gorgeous (prize winning) two tone green Turbo. Had 2 track sessions as well, the first one was the handling circuit and the kick plate, the second was handling and then high speed circuit. So much fun! Were you there? I don't know if I would recognise you - next time you see my car around come up and say Hi! Cheers Duncan PS Thanks Felix. Congrats on getting on Pistonheads!

It failed it's MOT last week on washers (not working at all, probably the pump), headlight aim, and CO2 emissions. Local garage who tested it said they thought they could get it to pass by adjusting the carb (!!!) so I just drove it home again! I've not driven it since 92Forty in mid-May, and I've not got the motivation/energy to get on with it right now. I still love the way it looks, but it makes me sad it doesn't get used. I'm wondering if I should try to find something I love that fills all my requirements, but I don't think that exists! I really don't want to just have a sensible Multipla/FRV and no retro/interesting thing... Cheers Duncan

Incredible looking 924 you have yourself there and I've followed images of it for a while. If I was to create my ideal 924 it would look exactly like yours. Looks absoloitely top.
Seems a shame that you've found yourself frustrated at its lack of use, unfortunately I can sympathise with that. Don't part ways, I think you'll be hard pushed to find anything as good as this.
