Looking good! Don't stop taking pictures and posting them. Good luck with the fabrication work, it will look good at the end.
Do you think you will have to reinforce anything like drive shaft, axles, suspension, etc...? Due to extra weight and power.

Wow. Doesn't look like there's much clearance left to the hood! How heavy is the new lump compared to the old one?

The drive train should hold it. The weight of the new lump is less than the old one. That 1985 lump was like a tank. This car should weigh in right at one ton, 1900-2100 LBS.
Firewall/bulkhead is cut. It had to go back into the passenger compartment at least 5 inches. I cut a little, test fit, cut a little, test fit. The engine is where it needs to be, the transmission tunnel is going to be rebuilt at least 30" from firewall because of the sheer size of the auto gearbox. It fits in the hole, but only just. The engine drops much lower than in those pics. The bonnet/hood will clear by 3-4 inches now that the hole is cut and the engine pushed down and back. The new rig is much longer that the stock one. If you're thinking of doing this- get ready to make a firewall, a transmission tunnel, mounts etc.
I'd like to get some welding done before I put up any more pics because this thing looks like Swiss cheese. The bummer thing, is that I have to use an altered log header. The steering and the brake booster make it too tight, to get a header in that spot. No ebay headers, I only have room for one 2" pipe to squeeze past that stuff. It's not optimal, but the only other way is either relocate the steering and the brake booster or use fender well headers, that share the same spot as the inner wheel arch. Not going that way.
It'll fit. It's all serious business now though. On the way home from work tomorrow I'm trying to pick up some sheet steel. #loving it.

Excellent progress, I had the same problems with manifolds, I have just about squeezed some 4-1 tubular in, lots of fab work making them though, it's such a wide engine!

with the missing engine, nose up stance and the quad square headlights it looks a bit like a dmc-12

wow good work!
the space for your throttle pedal looks very tight though...
does it need reinforcing a bit more? as bit sheets of sheet metal tend to be a bit wobbly..

The pedal is close, but it'll work. There's channel under the floors, it'll be good, plus this car is getting a full roll cage. Having fun!!

I have random days off from work and I try to plan ahead, so I can work in the garage. I have not done floor pans nor a transmission tunnel before. The only thing I have done is build a few 1000cc mini F1 cars, on a serious budget- but that's another story. I worked on the Maserati again today. And here we go. I just want to say that this has taken FOREVER. I was frustrated at times, couldn't breathe (from the fumes & smoke, the undercoating kept catching on fire). It was a lesson in pounding a transmission tunnel and floor pans with very little experience, tools and a bit of determination. Probably 24-26 hours in 2 days. Seems fast to you guys but it took forever to me. (See- I whine about curse word even when it comes out decent) The next step is getting the engine & trans mounted and then I think- I can do a test fire. Well, I mean, start asking a thousand questions on how to wire this damn thing & see if it starts. Then the plan is to (once it fires) paint the car and assemble it. Step one, do many burnouts.

Bl00dy hell - excellent progress.
Loving the enthusiasm as much as the car in this thread. It's sort of infectious!

Great bit of fabrication, no holding you back on the "Maseratus" That gearbox seems to take up a fair amount of space compared to the original, but it will be worth it in the end I am sure.

Fantastic work and progress, the tunnel and floor panels look very neat, a bit of paint over the work is the icing on the cake. Love your Maserati and engine choice
