Quiksteel!? What's that? I'd be inclined to solder them. Unless it's some pro audio trick that I've never heard of. (Which is likely!)
Anyway... Interesting comment about not having space round the back of the cone. I can see two potential problems with the way you have it. One is that it'll build up pressure behind the cone when it's moving a lot (basically the bass end). That might roll off the bass a little early. But as it's not your only bass driver I doubt if you'd notice. (Unless sound balance isn't important and you just want to blow the windows out. (Which is a reasonable enough aim...) The other is that it could sound like it's down a pipe. You'll hear it as a mid range honk.
But proof is in the listening as the don't say. I'd stick them in and see what it sounds like.
Like the trimming by the way. Looks really nice.

It's basically putty made up of two chemicals so when you roll it around in your fingers it activates and sets hard in minutes and forms a solid (drillable) metal in 24 hours. I'm going to pinch the rings I made for the larger 10" speakers and re-use those with the speakers fixed to a top layer so it will give 2" of breathable area all around. I may as well change it now - I think I've got time - it will only take longer to remove it all and do it at a later stage.

Amazing, wish I had your patience and skill. Takes serious balls to rip apart a van of relatively high value and do all this to it. When done, will sound immense. Your other half must be very tolerant, never ending builds. Cheers, if i can do it anyone can. As for tolerance from the other half it's more my well-practiced ability at ignoring the complaints of yet more car work. I think what frustrates me is that I have the physical ability, but I have no patience. I start with all good intentions, then halfway through run out of time or tolerance, so rough ass it. Good luck with ignoring the complaints, I've given up the fight for a while.

To be honest I'm usually like that but the fact I won the kit has given me motivation to keep progressing and make sure it's finished to a high a quality as I can make it.

In news away from the audio build I got frustrated with trying to clean the rust off the steels constantly and i decided that the steels powdercoated wouldn't be up to scratch so decided to look for alternatives. I came across a set of RH topline wheels on eBay after searching for monoblock wheels. They're in Mercedes 5 x 112 fitment so I had to get some adaptors made up - this helped the fact that the offset was et35 any way. The offset is the same as the steels and the adaptors are 20mm wide - the same as the spacers I currently have on the rear so the rear wheels will sit in the same way as they do now - albeit the wheels are half an inch wider so will sit out a fraction wider. There aren't any spacers currently on the front so the new front wheels will stick out more but I always thought they needed to go a bit wider any way. After a complete nightmare of a week experiencing shocking service from dpd - see @freshandmintynet on Instagram or google dpd Smethwick and see my review for a blow by blow account of their shenanigans - I finally got my hands on them last night. I've only had chance to check two so far but the ones I've opened are looking good. Should be fitted by the weekend hopefully!

Fair play fella, it's looking great. Attention to detail makes the difference. Wheels look awesome by the way

I couldn't resist asking this design to be made as a sun strip after seeing the design image by slambox yesterday. Printed today and fitted at the meet this evening. The shapes bring another level of 1990s to the bus. It has taken me four attempts to see this........ And all I can say is "Lovin' it"

A quick pre-tyre fitment test on Friday evening before I get the tyres switched over. As I'm using custom adaptors I wanted to make sure everything fitted as expected. The centre bores on the adaptors are absolutely spot on - 66.1mm for hubs and 73.1 for wheels. They are as far out as you can get away with due to the sliding doors, these are 8.5" wide with ET35 Offset and 20mm adaptors so you'd get 9.5" or possibly 10" wide on if they were direct fitment and a higher offset. The negative camber due to lowering helps with the sliding door access though.

It's so kind of you to look after my brand new wheels Seriously tho, they look bloody fantastic! Have they been completely polished and clear coated or just super shiny polished and waxed?

Nope bare ceramic polished alloy.
I'll be applying a ceramic sealant to help protect them.

Nope bare ceramic polished alloy. ... Surely a task for someone who killed both his mum and dad? Keeping them clean or the ceramic polishing side? It's a straightforward process - just drop them in a machine firing lots of balls around very fast... www.trsuk.co.uk/ceramic-polishing/Process is cheap enough for me to get them redone every year or so if necessary. I'm keeping the steels as winter wheels. I would never run polished wheels with a clear lacquer because as soon as you get one stone chip / smallest damage the water gets underneath and you can't polish them back.

I applied a coat of carbon collective platinum wheels ceramic coating to two of the wheels before it started raining. I'll do the other two tonight and then give them all another coat before I fit the wheels. When I came in from the rain I vinyled up the other three wheel centres... And just when I get the wheels perfect this morning I did this manoeuvring out of a parking space.... The vicious circle of keeping a car nice.

All four wheels have had two coats of the ceramic coating now. Apparently it's good enough to last up to two years of you wash the wheels regularly with normal acid free car shampoo / wheel cleaner so I plan to set a reminder to wash the wheels once a week even if I don't get chance to wash the whole bus. Hopefully the last photo of them in a bedroom rather than fitted...
