Right. I'm in a quandary. I currently have 2x mercedes w115 saloons. One with a knackered engine but ok ish body and one with a wrecked body but a recently rebuilt engine. My aim was to transplant the good engine and missing bits from the wrecked merc into the one with the shafted engine. However i only really would be working on them at weekends so time really isnt surrounding me in abundance and i guess you could say ive slightly lost my mojo a bit. On the other hand ive been offered this landrover for the small sum of approx £1200. In order to get the funds and the space for it though id have to sell the mercs. Whats your opinions? Your thoughts? I need swaying one way or the other......... Have some pics. Oooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I love old Landrovers but that one doesn't do it for me for some reason. I think modified light-weights just don't work and scream out desperation. Standard light-weights I do like. That's just me though. I notice it's on a coil-sprung chassis, depending on what's been done be careful that you don't fall foul of the points system as if that's a shortened Range-Rover hiding under there you may have a problem. Rear cross-member looks legit though.
The Mercs look cool but also look like long term projects whereas at least you can drive the Landy.

Those Mercs have soooo much potential, I wouldn't pass those up. Imo I think they would be a bit more rewarding than the Landy, but do whichever brings you the most enjoyment.

Well putting it bluntly the lightweight is a blatent ringer, get pulled and checked and you will lose the ID. Yes its cheap but there's a reason for that. Its 3 years out of test as well.

Mercs all the way
Landrover may seem tempting , but in a few months youd probably go mad when realisation kicks in

That Land Rover is £1200 further away from getting a Mercedes back on the road. That Landy looks great fun in a field and an absolute ball ache as something you'd use as a road car. Great farm toy, and that's the best I can say about it.

From what ive been told its a shortened rangerover chassis yes, its got a 200tdi lump in also but other than that i don't know. Plus i do have a friendly mot tester If it is registered as such by the DVLA and you want to use it on the road then that's all well and good, but I imagine that there's a reason why it is so cheap- like Smiler said, you might be in trouble with the points system depending on what is declared. If I were you I'd sort the Merc out and then see if you feel the same about a Land Rover, if you do then sell the Merc and surely you would be able to get a decent proper defender or series Land Rover for the money you get.

I'd get the light weight TBH, its far from uncommon to swap them on to Range Rover or Discovery chassis as the leaf sprung ones are at what at best can be described as character building.
But at that price baring in mind the bulk head and other parts look solid, the engine and chassis on its own would warrant the current asking price so I would really tread with caution.
