Breads Back on the menu! Been repairing the gutter rails, bit of straightening n repairing the pin holes, it's now water tight, rear chassis rails have had the rot cut out and replaced with some solid material, new lights, new brake lines being sorted, and next week, the Door mobile finally arrives! New wheel nuts and rear spring bushes have arrived. Going to change the dynamo for an Alternator, sorted out the exhaust pipe, and it's probably going to the rear rather than the side, and i have a medium size middle box left over from a 60's Mustang! (Smiling as i type!) anyway, updated pix to follow, also strengthening the lower sections where the skirts fit, it will give it a lot more stability.

Good work on the progress, i was thinking about this thread at the weekend when i was watching quadrophenia as there were similar looking vans in the film. Not sure if they were the same model but definitely reminded me of it.

As we got back, anti freeze began to leak, not a bad thing i suppose?

It's bad, but is it too bad? In some of the pictures it looks like it's just the edges of things that have been nibbled, the roof and floor looks surprisingly good. If there's antifreeze in it - though at first I was trying to figure out why it was leaking LHM! - then that's got to mean there's some hope for the engine, something like that I'd expect just plain brown water dribbling out.

very much so. the engine is the smaller 900cc and yet these were fitted with up to 12 seats!!! maybe people were thinner back in the day? (or were always up for a push when it came to going uphill?)

One thing I do know about the Atlas is how slow they are in standard form. Progress with the 900cc lump is somewhere between glacial or, if you're in a bit of a hurry, sedate.

She's a rotter but i've seen worse restored and given her rarity i'd imagine she'll live to see another roadway. If i had the space, time and cash i'd have her, no question.

well at the moment, i have the panel van to finish off, and that will def' be ready this year, i also have the mk2 escort that will need finishing, i have asked the guy's at quest to do what they can by May as i am taking it back and finishing it with a couple of guy's, one who has a lift. i am hoping to show both of my machines at a few shows this year, and, although the mk2 is not set up as a drag racing car, i would like to run it at Avon park this year as i heard that although there have always been rumors, apparently this is the last year before it gets 'developed'? so, after this, who knows what will happen regarding the Atlas? You fancy a challenge?

That is hideously brilliant!
Old VWs get restored that look worse so why not give the Atlas a chance!
