Cheers! yep will hopefully be painting the raised bumper bits in black too as it makes the car look a little more put together I feel rather than yellow all over.
Ordered finishing glaze filler, 4 cans of primer, 1 can of yellow to try out the shade before buying more, some plastic door trim clips, Door seals Boot seal
Once I have those some late evenings (hopefully the weather holds out) over the weekend and next week so i can get the car ready for its drive on Thursday!
mechanically it seems to be running fine, the cam belt "looks" ok so hopefully it is I know you can never actually tell, just haven't got the tinker time to learn a new engine and/or get a new one fitted.
Which reminds me I probably should order some sort of Haynes manual, maybe a sierra one which will cover the 2.0 Pinto engine?! Its a whole new beast for me.
At the same time I need to do the decorating to keep the peace and also fix the green ginettas clutch all back in ready to get the car out of the way for the weekend when we're getting some work done on the house! Busy busy!!

I really REALLY like this!! You have done some excellent work on this. Personally, i'd be happy to roll with it as it is, it is rare and it is different! Did you not consider Graffiti paint to rattle can it with? It's a tried and tested method, cheap enough, good coverage and a huge range of colours. The steering rack. Can someone put me right on the theory that, with the fliud all removed the rack will work like a normal non power assisted rack? I'm sure I read somewhere once that on some make or other, that a PAS rack was drained of fluid to remove the pressure and it actually performed more like a quick rack than a standard non PAS one?

dunno about the rack, all we did was swap it all out for a manual version! this is it for France prep externally. no more time to make it worse

we made it! dragged it's everywhere catching the road don't want to look under it to be honest!! will find some camping spring assistors to get home, pumped tires up and clicked the rear shocks to firm! even got completely stuck on the train where we had to lift it up and over the joins! no oil or water usage and drove it like a modern car 80 all the way only stopping for fuel.

Bug-ger how it looks. It a car, so first and foremost it has to BE a car. So it being used is more important. And heading off to France for the weekend is on my bucket list. Enjoy the trip!

it's nearly the end of our Lemans Ginetta adventure. the train caused bent rear frame side mounting on the chassis, amazingly the little tab isn't even triangulated to begin with so I know what to do to initially improve! but for now the cars got new bolts on the mounting and all solid again. going to try and pack stuff in other cars and leave the boot empty! let's hope the car makes the journey home fine. I'm already mega impressed what it dealt with on the way.... just looks aweful, I want the body to be painted mg nightfire red just don't/can't pay for it and no personal time so will more than likely be chucked under a cover or a council garage somewhere far from home until the time and year comes to us!

How expensive would it be to have it wrapped?

I would have thought the french Supermarche are just the place to find those spring inserts - after all the french are camping mad. The one in central Lemans is massive - then you can fill the car with booze!

Well to stop you all guessing and worrying lol. it made it back, packed lighter etc and no bottoming out along the way. very impressed over 1200 miles covered over the weekend and took it to work on Tuesday for the fun of it. the g31 shows the type of wheels I want. I think since it's performed so well I'm feeling impressed enough to explore the paint possibility of it and also drop in a silver top zetec to really modernise it. ordered a Sierra dash too which I will get flocked black. but all this will happen next year, it'll probably sit in the retro rides camping ground this August, then stored away somewhere until funds allow!

comparing those two pictures of the 31 and mine you can really see how much the rear arch was lowered haha.

My vote goes for continued use as it is. Maybe throw a couple of rattle cans of yellow at it, but it must be nice knowing it's not going to rot under the primer!
Ps bookmarked!

with the body being such a state I'm thinking about doing the American way of Bondo. but what is the UK version what have others used for a runny filler? got lots of star cracks which I'll grind deap and fill back in with a fglass mixed filler first just not worth spending hours and ££££ to do it. a 50ft paint job will be fine 😂😂😂 Spruzzo or Polyester Primer is what you’re thinking of I think. If you want it painting PM me with a budget and exactly what you’re looking for.

Old adverts like that are cool to see So got a sierra dash coming to me £55 with the postage, all complete minus the clocks and radio, its the hooded style over the clocks which I don't care, once flocked it should look better than the cortina one in the car. Have a direction to go with the paint now too but a few things first! SUNROOF. I want one that can go up and over (spoiler sunroof I believe they're known as) it cant slide back inside the roof as theres a metal bar that runs across the roof side to side centrally. Anyone know what std factory fit sunroofs, electric or mechanical move up and over? Spoiler for the boot. Retro rides camping then itll be off the road until all the work is completed again! Itll get there eventually!
