Hi,made the trip down to Weston S Mare to purchase ian1's omega and drove it the 200 odd miles home at an ave. of 25mpg which was less than I expected. Probably due to the constant misfire.(more of which to follow). First thing to sort were the cam cover gasket oil leaks, which could be the source of misfire due to contamination of the plug leads. Had to remove lots of gubbins to get this far..... which revealed this spark plugs swimming in oil. more to follow when I check the condition of the coil pack.(another common cause of misfire on the V6)

Good luck accessing the coil pack!!! Sometimes easier to remove the N/S exhaust downpipe, whilst trying to avoid snapping the studs off in the manifold!?! /

Yeah! I'd like to meet the git at GM who came up with that location. After much cursing and skinned knuckles got it out without moving the downpipe. As you can see in comparison with a good one it has a couple of large splits in the casing and loads of hard to see hairlines. Luckily in my large stash of omega spares I had another and a spare set of leads. next job put it all back together, lefthand cam cover should be fun.

good fun, there. the wifes Passat did the same thing with the valve cover gasket letting oil into the plug bores.

Fit new rocker covers as the plastic ones warp Or convert to metal Vectra rocker covers or your wasting your time... Been there done that...

Clear the breather box out on the back of the OS head and the flat plate on the top as well - the word on the street is only used Vauxhall gaskets and sealant otherwise they will leak again (mine do..because I didn't). Also carry a genuine crank sensor in the glovebox.. Apart from that, keep an eye on the coolant - any mayo is probably the oil cooler rather than a head gasket issue. Saying that, if you've had a Vauxhall V6 before, you'll know that already

I do like an Omega wagon, almost to the point of regretting breaking one to power the Scimega.

I've got a spare x30xe and gearbox which if I get the time would quite like to put in something retro and rwd,mgb or chevette maybe.

We ran a 2.5 Auto Omega Estate for a few years I don't think it ever managed as much as 25mpg!
Poxy electronics and gearbox with inbuilt self distruct spoiled a lovely comfortable car, keep a spare crank sensor handy, from memory we went through 4 in about 3 years, as well as coil packs and a gearbox. Still on the plus side the cam belt is nowhere near as tricky as people would have you believe.

I remember doing my 3.0 coil pack in -9 conditions , one of the bolts was a complete nightmare and got left out on reassembly. Would consider getting an MV6 if I can find one on gas

Not a problem,it'd be boring if we all liked the same. Yeah true - I love the previous Carltons and Senators and seriously considered getting an Omega but I hoped the styling would grow on me but never did and that V6 engine put me off as it has some "issues"

sorted the cam gaskets and replaced the coil pack, now runs like a swiss watch. had a look under the rear end and was pleasantly surprised at the lack of oil leaks bar one ,not much to do here. other jobs on the to do list are adjust handbrake, service the brakes and fit a set of 17" face-lift elite alloys from my shed of spares as they have much better tread than the existing 16's John

I had a Cav V6 with a misfire and leaking cam covers (and a bunch of other iffy bits), but I loved it dearly, even if it only did 23mpg, it sounded pretty fine IMHO
