Yeah, I know, it's not retro. But I've been on here a while and, hey, this is what I'm driving now. And it'll be retro one day... Here it is as bought, after I put the silly plate on it. Minty-clean, bog-standard Type R. DSC_0016 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0005 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0020 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0018 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0019 by dbizzle_, on Flickr ...then it received an ITG carbon-fibre induction kit and a Sportex exhaust. (Sorry, curse word Instagram pic) itg_sportex by dbizzle_, on Flickr ...but then my inner boy racer changed his mind and insisted on an M2 4" can instead, because reasons. DSC_0542 by dbizzle_, on Flickr ...and then a set of Rota Blitz arrived, which I decided to complement with some Eibach Sportline springs, Eibach camber bolts and Hardrace camber arms, along with a fast road setup (bit of negative camber all round, plus some toe tweaks). Oh, and a shiny purple tie bar. DSC_0687 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0679 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0487 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0692 by dbizzle_, on Flickr More mods to come. You can follow it in Fast Car too, it's a project in there

Very nice. How do you find the driving experience?
Is this your daily or a second whip?

Very nice. How do you find the driving experience? Is this your daily or a second whip? It's phenomenally good fun to drive. Genuinely hilarious. The K20 is a very high-revving motor and that, combined with the short gearing, means it's not happiest around town (generally cruising through 30mph zones in 5th gear...!) but it was built for country roads, the handling is just perfect. Even better now, in fact, with the fast road setup. I kept the stock shocks and just added shorter, stiffer springs, as I was advised by various experts that coilovers were overkill on an EP3 that saw mainly road use. It's really paid off. I love the placement of the gearstick too, poking out of the dash like a BTCC racer, just a hand-span from the steering wheel. It's my second car, just a toy rather than a daily. Evening blasts through the woods, weekend journeys to car shows and stuff. (I work in London so there's no point driving it to work every day - there is no joy to be found in driving through rush-hour London. I get the Tube and read a book instead...)

Very nice, its also nice to see one thats being looked after, all the ones I see round here are either dead or being badly mistreated.
A shame for what is such a good fun thing to drive.

I used Palmdale (a car-buying service) to source it, and they basically scoured the country and rejected hundreds of knackered ones before they found this one.

One of the days I'll have to catch up and enquire about this. It sounds pretty good and the car you have sounds spot on! It looks lovely I have to say! I've said this before however, threads like this don't help with me wanting to put up one about the M3 of mine which some may consider to be 'modern'.

Yeah, I think some of the mods I have planned are going to spit in the face of its originality somewhat though. Annoy some purists. Hence the number plate

I loved my EP3! I had a face lift like yours with a Blitz induction kit and unsilenced B-pipe. It sounded fantastic! I'd have another one anyday, the driving position and gearstick location were great!
Oh! Get a weighted gearknob! Sounds silly but it just feels so much better! There was a guy making them on the CTR-owners club forum.
Only nagative I have... I once got it handed to me by a mk2 G60 Golf!
Enjoy!

Ha ha, I did have an unsilenced B-pipe on this when I had the Sportex system on there, but then I swapped this barely silenced M2 backbox on it too and it was completely deafening! Couldn't take it above 60mph on the motorway, it was like there was an aeroplane taking off in there. So now it's back to the stock B-pipe and slightly noisy but less offensive rear box...

Always liked the EP3's. I had one back in 2007, k-pro, supercharged, buddyclub manifold back exhaust with no silencer, carbon everything. It was incredibly loud and I was always impressed by the handling even without a diff. Well looked after ones are hard to come across these days, they've become the Saxo of the council estates.
I fancy another DC5 for a bit of weekend titting about

Of when it was ludicrously noisy? Sadly not. Hard enough trying to drive with your fingers in your ears, let alone operate a camera as well...

Hence the number plate You'll be changing the name to "PuristAnnoyer" next . Intrigued to see what comes of the car. Your tales of buying a car sound similar to when I bought my M3 TBH!

I love these things, I did a lot of work on my good friends one a few years ago, in turn he used to lend it to me when he worked abroad and I enjoyed it quite a lot.
At the time it was 8 years old and the modifications were incredibly poorly executed. Looks like you have a decent one though, I noticed it from the Goodwood thread.

I had one an Al pat identical spex to yours , But with a scorpion twin box exhaust ( with an extra box welded in to cut noise, )
And a k100 set up. This really transforms the car. Mine made 232 bhp with the exhaust, a modified standard air box and the k100.
The big change though was the spread of power. I had the cross over set at 4500 and the Rev linit moved to 8900 rpm. This gave a really good usable power band. The increase in tourque was very welcome aswell.

Please say that the spoiler and splitter are photo shopped on. They're not to my taste but aside from that a nice example of a type R.
