Hi Folks,
So I have this thread up on another forum but I've been lurking around here for a while now and thought some on here might be interested in my project. I bought this MGB GT back in June last year and plan to use it for Multi-Venue Autotests, Autosolos, Endurance's, Lanes Rallies, Targas and the odd track day etc..
Its a 1966 B-Series, completely rebuilt in 2008 as a historic rally car and has since competed in various historic rallies. The car was used most notably in the 2012 and 2014 Winter Trials (winning some stages of the event in 2014) and the historic Monte Carlo.
The engine was a 1.8 B-Series that was bored out to a 2litre with omega forged pistons, a fast road cam and polished head built by Doug Smith of MG Motorsport. It has a Ford Type 9 gearbox, Salisbury diff and forestry leaf springs. There's a more detailed spec list below.
After I got the car, I gave the engine a freshen up with new main bearings, top and bottom gasket kits, full service and replaced the Armstrong dampers with Gaz adjustable shocks.
I then decided to give the interior a tidy in November last as years of rallying had taken its toll and it had gotten a bit shabby. I've a few pictures below of the before and afters of the interior.
At the moment, I'm nearing the end of a full respray. In hindsight I shouldn't have touched the interior until the outside was finished, but I hadn't initially intended on starting the outside so soon!
As the car will be used for road rallies and various other motorsports I wanted to make sure it was sound and solid. I got two brand new 6 piece sill kits and replaced sections of floor also. When the car was built in 2008 there were chassis strengthening kit installed so I just added some additional plates along the chassis legs to help against rocks and hits. The below pictures give an idea of the work done to date. I'm trying to get it finished for my first event of the year on April 9th so I'll throw up more pictures as it comes together over the next 2 weeks. A few late nights are inevitable I think!
The spec list below is a summary of the car as it stands.

The pictures don't really do the colour much justice. Outside its a lovely deep Imola Red, I'm really happy with how the colour turned out. I decided to get an MGC fiberglass bonnet for it aswell which I think will really suit the look of the car. I gathered various other bits and pieces over the last couple weeks which should set it off nice like new tail lights, locking petrol cap, new front indicator lenses etc..
Anyways, that's all for now really. I'll have it flatted during the week and start polishing and rebuilding this weekend. I'll throw up some more pictures as it comes together and use this thread to update as I do events also.
Thanks
Matt
