I'm in the process of trying to import a FSC Zuk Fire engine which drove back from Poland last week I'm abit worried about the MOT! should a standard Zuk be able to pass? Its in pretty good condition, need to fix a few little bits first like, replace a wheel bearing, couple bulbs and fit seat belts. But over all it seems in good nick and well looked after. I'm worried about emissions and also going to some nit picky MOTer who will make me have to go to another time zone just to replace one hole little part. In Bristol area. Any help, experience with Zuks or advice would be apreciated

I know that when I had my FTO it didn't need to have a cat fitted for the MOT even though it was a 1995 model. Because it was an import it was exempt, and my Trabant is exempt on the emissions as it's a 2 stroke and an import. I would of thought it would be worthwhile while asking your local MOT station to see what they think.

What you WILL need to have is RHD headlights! and other bits may need sorting depending on age, like post 1980 cars need rear foglights but some european cars have them - but on the wrong side!

My Trabant still has the original headlights but has stickers on them to stop blinding oncoming traffic. And It has passed the last three years MOT's with no problems at all. But at some point when the first owner over here imported it and put it on the road, it had little side indicators fitted to the front wings. The guy that does the test on my car is used to seeing classic cars and unusual stuff,so that probably helps. Might be worth looking around for a garage in your area that is used to working on interesting motors.

It's an FSO Polonez in a party frock. The running gear is near identical - so parts are easy..
Don't worry about changing the headlights short term, a bit of gaffer tape will sort the beam deflectors for MOT. They are standard 7 inch units anyway.
It'll be tested according to its age, not its Commie status. If it's in good nick - and most fire trucks are, it'll be fine.
Initial ticket in VIN number, then registration and uk plate there on. I've done it many times with Eastern chod. Bsimples

Are you intending to keep it in fire fighting guise? If so register it as a fire appliance so it's MOT exempted.
I've queried this before as a firm was running "party" fire engines on exemptions and apparently as long as they retain their fire fighting ability there are no restrictions on use? So you couldn't make it into a camper for example.
If not Beam benders are fine for the MOT as long as LHD Emissions will be based on age.

The DVLA 112/G form says:
"If your vehicle is an exempt goods vehicle weighing more than 3500kg or a public service vehicle" ... "8. Vehicles designed and used solely for fire fighting or fire salvage purposes. "
It does say 3500kg "OR" public service vehicle ... I think they mean busses when they say "public service vehicles" though, not sure. Probably be abit cheeky trying to interpret it as MOT / GVT exempt when I'm going to be using it as a camper eventually haha :/
Should be tax exempt though! even though it seems to have disappeared of the gov website over the last week..?
Its a 1992 with a flat head petrol engine! haha
