Good guess on the axle! The area where there are a number of burn outs together has been cleared. It's also not easily accessible either as it's down a fire break, they tend to get left until they are built up, and then a day is spent removing them. The location is near Croeserw in South Wales, nice place... Here's me on the job.. And this is probably one of the most interesting abandoned vehicles I've had to recover... We were asked by the police to recover it, the beach in question has no vehicular access apart from the slipway in the picture below, only accessible through Port Talbot steel works, and that place is very secure. The beach is about 6-7 miles long, and has rocks one end, and the steelworks the other end. We had to drag it about 3 miles to get to the slipway, you can probably see the steelworks in the background of the above picture..

Couple of other additions.. This is a local reservoir, known locally as the blue pool, and also very well known dumping ground for cars, due to the terrain, they don't get recovered, there are rumours of some interesting cars at the bottom of it! The steep banking is about 150-200ft straight down into the pool, this one didn't quite make it to the bottom.. Guess the car? And this one didn't make it into the water, guess the burn out..

shame about those ds early ones too think they might be IDS or very basic ds's..... yeah ID. however, the ds pre about 1967 all had the single headligth fornt too. the 'twin headlight' type were later model rather than 'ds' specific.

Hi Simon 79, I reckon that's a 5 door Volvo 340 on top of a Suzuki jeep next to the reservoir! What a great collection of photos, i live up near you and recognize all the areas you ve taken the snaps, and the cars! spend many hours walking my dog in them areas! Except the track where the Combo Van, Mk3 Astra etc were.. Where are these too? On a sadder note, you probably picked up my H Reg Cavalier Sri saloon a year or two back.. Stolen then Smashed & burnt behind Pleasant View. Loving the photos of the area!

Haha, yes, you may remember the volvo before it was actually burnt out then!
I used to live in Bryn, but now live in Maesteg.
The area where the load of cars are dumped is the forest west of Caerau/Croeserw, and goes over the back of the mountain towards the Garw.
The pictures of the Volvo were taken yesterday, the blue pool wasn't very blue as you can see, probably due to the amount of rain we've had over the last week !
Pleasant View..in Maesteg?

Mad old place blue pool, in the last twelve months i ve seen it frozen over in the winter and a few months back down to its lowest level in years!
I can recall mates of mine in a diving club who used to dive up there, rumors of a MK2 Escort Rs2000 down there which they spent ages looking for but it was much too dark as they got deeper. They found loads of motorbikes, few old vauxhalls and tried raising a transit van by filling it full of air!!
Pleaent view, street up in Caerau by the new school and entrance to the forestry. They drove my car over a railway embankment by the allotments and smashed the sump up etc!
Be interested to find that area in the forset, could you drop me a PM with some ruff directions.? I live down in Garth, Maesteg.
You may spot me driving around, have two Mk2 astras, an Sxi and a GTE 16V
