What an incredible weekend! Was good to finally meet you HoTWire! Wish there had been more time to chat a bit longer, but you were busy with the event and I was busy with shooting cars, hah. Seriously, me and my two friends I brought over had such a blast at the event. We shot a few thousand photos on digital and I shot, I think, 7 rolls of film or so as well. Was my first Retro Rides event and it was amazing. Goodwood is such an amazing venue! It was the second time I've been there (the first being Players Classic in 2015) and it's just oh so well suited to events like this. Such a amazing selection of cars, I didn't even know where to start looking first! All the people we met were so kind and welcoming, it was mind boggling to us, we're not used to people being so friendly haha We'll definitely be back! I literally just got home a few minutes ago. We set out this morning, had a slight planning mishap with us missing our ferry and then we got stopped by the border patrol when we entered Germany and they searched my truck! I suspect they just wanted to check it out, hah.

SO glad I'm not the only one with a deep sense of resentment against those utter dicks. I went over twice to reason with them and then as I stared into their saucer-sized mad eyes and they honked and barked at me, I knew there was nothing good that could come out of asking them to stop, so I just had to turn around and go back again. They were utterly blasted and beyond any kind of reason or control. Sunday morning when I finally woke up and walked past their gazebo thing in the middle of their tents, they had destroyed everything they'd brought with them. Smashed everything up. I'm amazed they didn't burn their pitch down. They had kicked over their barbecue/fire thing, kicked over all their chairs and tables and scattered all their stuff everywhere. I'm willing to bet good money they didn't tidy any of that up before they left. I really don't know what they thought the event was. I think they got it confused with some kind of music festival flood-therapy session for under-developed cretins. I can only hope the got stopped by the police for drunk/drug induced driving as they left because they were still at it at 4am and yet they were up by 9:30am staggering around and starting their cars. Utter knobs. I think the thing to do next time is for a bunch of RR regulars to put their names into a hat to volunteer as a campsite peace-posse. We could swap mobile numbers and then anything like that happens again and the Goodwood ground staff have gone home, we can gather in sufficient numbers to deal with it and if necessary to remove them from the site. I don't know quite how that would work and how we would control it but I'm sure a bunch of us would stand a better chance than just one of us. Haha we're famous! If you actually came over you could of joined in on the tenacious D concert we had on Friday night. Your right about our camp site we trashed the place, and then cleaned every last piece of litter up and took it to the skip before we left coz we aren't massive curse word As for security, they were on round the clock and we had a woman come over both nights and told us to keep the music on, because eveeyone else had gone to sleep and she was bored lol. We had a chap come over Saturday about 1am asking us to turn it down because his group were heading off to bed for the night and actually ended up staying with us for 2 hours having a great time! Lighten up and join the party next time! Lots of love x Hey you know what... I think you're right. I just didn't understand the nature of the event. I should have realised it was that sort of weekend and that I'm just not suitable for it. Lesson learned.... I'm going to stay away from future Retrorides events and let you youngsters enjoy yourselves however you wish to without boring old farts complaining about it. Apologies for calling you dicks and cretins. It's clearly just me being boring and miserable. I guess I've forgotten how to have fun along the way. Much respect to the campsite security for protecting your right to party to dawn. You should bring some bigger speakers next year and get the whole campsite partying. You could become the life and soul of the weekender and earn lots of love and respect. Bring more friends too to help spread the fun. You might even make a few quid if you can sell a nifty wee bump to other campers to keep them going until sunrise. This could become the new Glastonbury. Very cool mate. The future's yours if you want it. But anyway... this is a thread to offer thanks to the organisers, so lets get back on track.... thanks once again to the team who worked so hard to put the event on.

Lool! Came over to reason with us? Straightaway you're chatting curse word, nobody complained, not once. Security came past multiple times and were sound. I got told to turn my car off (engine was running cause I was bloody freezing 😂) so I turned it off, as asked.
If you have an issue, say something. Don't wait until you're at home behind a keyboard giving it the biggun to your internet friends.
We aren't chavs, we wouldn't have been curse word, we could've all been friends 😭
Jumping to assumptions that it we didn't clean up? curse word

Remember the person who came past with a torch at 3.30am on Sunday morning? Stopped and tried to ask you politely to switch off and go to sleep? Probably not, because you both started going "oi mate, oi, oi mate" at me immediately, and it was apparent to me standing there totally on my own that it wasn't going to go well.
But you probably don't remember anyway, because you were absolutely wrecked.
I've already posted up there ^ that maybe you are right and that I wont stand in your way in future. I'm not hiding behind a keyboard at all. I weighed up the odds of success in trying to deal with it by myself and they didn't look good, but I will share my experiences on here afterwards when somebody else makes the same comment.
I think you might need to consider that nobody came over because the idea of doing so was intimidating. They weren't asleep int heir tents, they were lying quietly in their tents hoping to eventually get some sleep. You were wrecked, and out of control, and that's intmidating in the middle of the night for a single person to try and deal with... especially when the campsite rules laid out by RR were that there was a strict noise curfew at 11pm and that the campsite security would be patrolling. It's not really our job, as paying visitors to the event, to try and reason with a bunch of p*ssed up kids wrecking their stuff, playing music and shouting through the night.
I'm totally willing to accept that I took the noise curfew too seriously, that I misunderstood the nature of a RR event. It was my first one. I now accept that this is the spirit of RR and I also accept that I am not really up for that kind of thing and so will stay away in future. If the security detail are encouraging you to keep going then I obviously misunderstood what I was coming to.
Fair enough.
Enjoy yourselves.

Tbh Quatermass you are really taking the curse word a bit turning up at your first RR event then bitching at people because they didn't do things the way you might have wanted. The guys partying had just as much right to stay up as you do to sleep really. The 11pm thing is utter fantasy. It's a car show for gods sake. People arnt going to suddenly pack up at 11pm and go to bed. I was camped just across from the guys you're on about and although I could hear them it was hardly a disturbance in the grand scheme of things. You can't expect silence any time of the night.. Again. It's a car show that's what they are like!
A more sensible approach to things may be to request a quiet camping area for the next year. Calling people names and bitching won't make you any friends. We tend to solve things in a more civil manner around here. So quit bitching.

Fair enough. I've been told. I retract all criticisms and will respectfully stay away in future.
If I had known the 11pm strict curfew was just a fantasy I would have bought a day ticket instead, so maybe it might be worth relaxing the wording and giving people a more accurate idea of what to expect. But at least I know now.
I'm totally in the wrong. I'm not going to comment on this again.

Yeh well there was a 'quieter area for camping' mentioned but the guys doing the actual parking for the camping didn't have a clue really. Somthing to work on for next year. Two areas, properly marked out, properly marked lanes. Someone a bit calmer in charge of it all and a bit more freedom to go park with who/where you wanted. There was tonnes of space to do it no doubt.
The point is we should deal with these issues in a sensible friendly way rather than acting like our way is the only way. The whole point of these RR events is to bring together a bit of variety of cars and people.

The point is we should deal with these issues in a sensible friendly way In my defence, I did try that. Anyway, apologies to all. I accept I'm in the wrong and that I stand alone in raising this. Sorry for the name calling but a lack of sleep gets me very cranky. Massive thank you to the organisers.... that's the most important part.

This has gone well. Yay!
The 11pm thing comes from me directly and I'm aware it is hazy at its edges. Is great if people wanna stay up, but playing out music and being obnoxiously loud isn't on, or at least it is okay until the first person comes over and asks you to be quiet, after that you are just being a dick. If the security people aren't taking noise complaints seriously then I'll speak to them. The camp site does need better delimitation between quiet areas, and generally needs to be a bit better over all. If you want a campsite that is closer to a festival I head Bug Jam and Edition38 are probably the place for you.
I'm glad I manage to make it just over 24 hours in the thanks thread before it kicked off into complaints. Think that is a record. Makes the months of effort and expense putting the show on really worth it and really motivating for doing it again. Can't wait to do it all again, maybe I can make it to 36 hours next time.

I love how you are trying to make it out like this was some out of control rave. There was a small blue tooth speaker turned down low (you've even admitted that the music wasn't loud yourself). Then try and make out like we were intimidating and then saying "maybe this is what the events all about", it's like you are pushing for people come to your defence and attack us on your word. Plenty of people came over over the corse of the 2 nights and must of found us approachable because they hung around for ages having a beer, having a joke with us and talking about cars, (isn't that what people do at cars shows these days?) one of them being the lad with the black moggy that seemed to be camping with? I remember him saying how it was good to see younger lads having a laugh and creating memories in the same way him and his mates did going to car shows when they were younger. Not only did no one complain to us but no one complained to security either, I know this because they told us. She said there was a noise curfew but no one had complained to them so it mustn't of been bothering anyone. As for drugs non of us were on them but there were a few walking around that were clearly off their tits, and judging by the smells coming from some camps there was plenty of people smoking weed. There was no danger of us getting done for drink driving but thanks for your concern. Our cars didn't move till well into the afternoon and not everyone camping with us was driving. As for inconsiderate people tho, what about the person in the matt black scimitar that thinks it's fine to pepper the front of someone else's pride and joy with stones and dust when leaving the site. I didn't think this was the sort of show where people would think those sort of actions were acceptable, but maybe I just misjudged the spirit of the event?

Right, okay. I've heard you.
I have no idea at all about any tire screeching when leaving the site. Certainly not done intentionally if it happened, so apologies for that if that was the case.
It's my first RR and clearly I've mis-judged it and I shouldn't have opened my mouth.
Apologies, and I'll keep my big mouth shut in future.

The security told us that they had received no complaints. If people choose to wait until the show is finished and everyone has gone home to make a complaint then who's fault is that? Apparently the first time anyone complained was 3.30 on Sunday morning (I'd gone to bed by this point so I have no idea). Everyone that came over when I was up sat and joined in having a beer and chatting cars ect. The music wasn't loud, the lad complaining about it now has even said that. Thank you for putting on a brilliant show, it really was top class and everyone I spoke to was saying the same. It's just a shame someone has felt the need to turn a thank you post into an attack on people.

The music wasn't loud, the lad complaining about it now has even said that. Yes, this is true. It wasn't like a sound system was blasting out... but in my mind there was a noise curfew and it was on that basis that I chose to camp for the weekend. The music itself was not loud enough to travel very far but for people neighbouring you it was evident. For me though what made the music seem unacceptable against my perception of the noise curfew was that the music encouraged you to sing and hoot and ad-lib noises over the top of it. So in the end for me it wasn't so much the music itself as the improvised karaoke over the top of it. Again, I apologise for chipping in so vocally on the issue. I totally accept I was wrong to do so. In all honesty it was not what I expected in the campsite and I now realise I had unrealistic expectations and shouldn't have criticised.

I can assure you the last thing you'd of got from any of us is attacked. You've accused us of being druggies, you've called us names (wasn't it nob heads?), you've made out we were drink/drug driving. If you'd of actually came over and chatted to us you would of realised that wasn't the case.

I have no idea who was oi oi'ing you at 3.30 in the morning as I'd gone to bed by that point Two tall blokes. I think one of which was called Ollie because as I approached and after I'd walked off the conversation involved one calling the other one by the name Ollie. I had got out of my tent and wandered around with a torch, with the intention of asking if it could be brought to an end so I could get some sleep. As I got round to the opening on your gazebo I shone my torch in to what looked to me like a scene of utter devastation. You have to consider that from my perspective. If people are so far gone they've trashed their own gear what chance do I have int he middle of the night of asking them to respect my desire for sleep? As I came round and shone my torch the other bloke went "ollie, ollie" and there was a bit of hush which gave me the impression that they thought I might be a security person. I then started to speak but at that point I think they'd realised I wasn't security and the changed tack and started "oi oi"ing at me. What I was concerned about was that people who are that wrecked might resent being asked to pipe down and might then do something silly in retaliation. I didn't want to go to sleep and then wake up in the morning to discover my car had been damaged. So I try ask quietly if they could stop but they just started going "oi" at me and they were obviously blasted. It didn't look too promising. It looked likely I would struggle to reason with them and they might possibly commence with aggression. So I walked away again and had a wander round the campsite. The noise finally stopped just after 4am, so I have to assume that this stopped because of the complaint you mentioned yourself. The only thing I can do at this point is take it on the chin that I spoke up and I'm out of order for doing so. I'm not going to try and argue my way out of this and hope I manage to end up being right. It was my first RR event and I had a different set of expectations to what happened. My error entirely. I can only be man enough to admit I was wrong at this point and to retract all criticisms. There really isn't anything more I can do. I've been vocal in criticisms so let me be equally vocal in my apology.

Excellent weekend! Only downer for me was that I messed up and didn't read about needing a Paddock pass to display on the Sunday. Was turned away at the gate. Nevermind though, I know for next time. Different venue but the regular RR vibe persisted. Great to see new and old faces. Can you make sure you book the sunshine again for next year?

I went to bed fairly early Sat night, I somehow slept through all if this noise you talk about, and I was in the middle of it. I also got up around 3:30 and went for a curse word, nobody was up in our camp? Maybe it was later, I dunno.
It's all your fault olly, you dick.
I'm surprised Matty didn't ask you about your silicone hoses?

Thank you to the RR team for once again knocking it out of the park!
Had an amazing time driving round the track Saturday morning, and a nice relaxed afternoon
And then a great day sunday getting to park up on the track, laze about til it brightened up (had a bacon sarnie and tea from the pit lane cafe which may have been the best bacon I've ever eaten) and then wandered up and down the clubs and around the paddock and other areas which was nice too.
My stand out car of the event was the bagged custard yellow mercedes with the most incredible copper piped interior. I took a lot of photos of that one.
Honestly it didn't seem like a first go at the event, everything ran slick and well.
Can't wait for the gathering!
