Started with this....a scruffy but seemingly sound Peugeot 403 estate.... . soon discovered it wasn't as sound as we thought...A pillars were particularly evil......... 52 hours of welding later, we ended up with a sound shell A cunning plan was hatched [after much measuring..] junk all of the running gear, and transplant the whole of what's under this....... It will fit, although Peugeot was originally r.w.d..................so.. Complete Golf front subframe, complete with steering and suspension........ some time later now seam welded in..... might have to reverse band some Golf steelies....rear end looks like being easy. Engine in next week.....

'80 s1 924 turbo..hibernating '80 golf gli cabriolet...doing impression of a skip '97 pug 106 commuter...continuing cheapness making me smile!
firm believer in the k.i.s.s and f.i.s.h principles.

Now that’s quite the project! Definitely the definition of a sleeper... Bookmarked, can’t wait to see more updates What engine is in the golf? Do you plan to do any engine work, or are you going to keep it standard?

I am so in with this one! Is the Golf a GTi, TDi, V6 4Motion or R32??

Nice project. But why a Golf of all things? Why not a M44 out of a 318is? You could've kept it simple.

We happened to have a 1.8 turbo Golf that had healthy mechanical bits, but a really tatty body................... .......I had thought about keeping it simple [BMW engine was a consideration] but where's the fun in that! Golf has already been re-mapped to 180 bhp, and we're using the engine /gearbox / ECU, power steering, ABS....in fact everything except the aircon......rear axle will need new turrets for the struts, but the rest of the rear end should be fairly simple.....one of advantages of doing a F.W.D conversion also solves problem of prop shaft......original suspension set up on these is a bit odd.....transverse leaf front suspension, torque tube rear end, with leaf springs and lever arms.

Interesting project 👍
If body of golf is tatty, it probably has no sills under the side skirts lol

I really do not like that it's gonna become fwd. You could've used an Audi gearbox to keep it rwd.
