As I'm currently looking for a replacement daily for my wife I've been perusing the Gov MOT check website quite a bit,but this evening found an advisory I've never seen before: Tempted to ask whether they've both been sorted😀

I once had "Petrol Cap won't unlock" as I gave them the spare key which didn't have the cap key on the keyring. Mind you, it was only a small part of a massive failure list, so maybe they thought they'd have a laugh? As for the snow one, how cold was the workshop??!!

i did chuckle at an advisory on swmbo's focus this year. the garage serviced (and waxoyled) then mot'd the car at the same time.....then applied an advisory for waxoyl on the brake pipes!!
"undertrays and engine covers fitted" on moderns is a belter too.... a bit like saying "unable to inspect inner sill as carpet fitted"!!

Yup.
Pretty much all of those things are a way for the garage to cover themselves if they can't truly inspect the car.
My garage doesn't tend to write those advisories as keen as some garages but he does sometimes use the undertray one when he knows he actually can't check the item at all, but where the item can fail.
BMW E6x brake pipes are agood example; they are completely hidden under the car with undertrays ; they can go rotten but of course you'd never know.

I've come across advisories for "general corrosion to underbody" a few times recently. According to a tester I know, the period that a tester is liable for not spotting any serious corrosion has been extended, so I guess this is a way of covering themselves. The cars I've looked at with this advisory have all been good underneath, just the usual 20-year-old car underside.

Just had a freelander passed with advisory of ‘baby seat fitted’ I guess they were covering themselves about the seatbelt, but didn’t actually say so!

I see this a lot, I hate it when they put it as anyone not clued up looking at the mot history thinks somethings amiss

I've had "third row seat not fitted at time of inspection". They knew I'd taken it out for the test and that it was going straight back in when I got home though. In the '80s I got a warning for rust in the rear sub-frame on a Mini. It got, I think, at least three more wofs at other garages before I sold it and no-one else mentioned rust in the sub-frame.

A friend of mine has just had this in his 11 plate BMW, phoned me up panicking thinking he had holey floors

I had this one on the hatch: on it's first MOT after the rebuild. What makes it strange is that the wipers were exactly the same size as the ones on the Firenza (because it's the same car from the A pillars forward), it has the same screen, the same guy has MOTed it for years, and never mentioned it. As it happens, both were smaller than they could have been. But it's a weird thing to pick up. He left it off the re-test after I queried it.

I had oh this starlet wants a load of welding doing it's almost stuffed when taking it for a wof, once I asked where is it and I'll MIG it up it mysteriously changed to well if you just clean this bit of rust up and it'll be fine....

Old daily civic diesel acquired
Clutch pedal is heavy.
