For the proper spintires look, the driver should be face down with his arms crossed over the wheel
On mudrunner if you sit and keep mashing the brakes or throttle he looks directly into the camera as if to say WTF are you doing. He also falls asleep on my machine if you drive into water over a certain depth, no idea why. Will be some truck updates again soon
Wowsers, best give all ya'll an update I guess. So, I decided as per my last posts to build this up as general service or a gun tractor. So lets crack on with the pics.
Spare wheel carrier arrived. Made for the job.
Painted the doors with the 'Star'. Gives it a lovely cold war feel
Trailer kit and drawbar arrived, obviously the flat bed was destined for the lorry. Just not in blue. But it fits. As you would imagine. These kits are very modular. KUNG will be made into a trailer as a mobile workshop.
Needed to hide the battery in the bed though. I had a few business card boxes. And an idea, albeit borrowed from garden railwaying.
I did have a bash at mounting the KUNG on the trailer chassis, which threw up axle position issues, so I re-drilled the frame rails for both the balance cart mount and the front cross member. Oddly the body from the truck that the flat bed comes from fits the Ural but the KUNG from the Ural doesn't fit the truck the flat bed comes from. I do wonder if the frame rails are from a different truck again.
Had a little something else turn up too. These fellas are having a good chinwag about it..
That's the one. The gun for it to.. tractor. Needs some work to be towable as it is very much currently a toy but it should all come good.
The poseable figures came with it, about right size wise. Will at some point send one to Low Standards as a driver for his GAZ.
Got the bed painted and fitted.
And made some flexible mudflaps while I was waiting for the next parts. Oddly the Ural kit comes with the mudflaps for this body, that aren't used on the KUNG body.
Well, what else could I be waiting for? Well, initially some metal gears and replacement axles, the gearbox nearly immediately starting skipping the nylon gears and the centre axle was binding, the gears are pot metal. They are pretty hit and miss, but I didn't have the readies for the uber-axles at the moment so bought another set of axles with brass rings and pinions and they seem to be behaving for now. So that's good. The 2 speed gearbox is also rebuilt, it's a little noisier with the metal gearset but I should have just done that from day one with the metal gears. Also, something missing aesthetically. Ah yea, tilt and bows!
But DIGITAL CAMO. That may be great on a Saxo or something but not here. Gently built up paint on the tilt until it was evenly covered and that should do us. So, this is where we are at now!
Small-ish update for you. Started builing the KUNG trailer.
Looks good behind the truck. Needs a few more bits as well as new tyres but getting there.
I also thought something was missing.. So knocked this up from some spare sprue.
Also found a scale Pripyat ferris wheel to take some pics with when visiting TAB.
Other news on the truck front is the WPL Official web-store had the diesel sound cards in stock so I have ordered one. Which all falls under my grand plan to end up with a spare control system. Part of the grand plan also involves this. Or some of it. So watch this space.
Inspired by this and watching a few Youtube vids I've just ordered the C44KM FJ45 trayback. Can't wait for it to arrive and get building
Excellent! The kit quality has increased so much as of late, WPL have realised I think their target market isn’t actually kids so have stepped up the game so to speak. Did you get it straight from their web store or somewhere else? If you need spares or upgrades they list most of it on their store, a lot of parts are free as well, you just pay shipping, which is a cracking idea if you lost or broke your door mirrors or something. Can’t fault them for their customer service really!
