thank you all , very much appreciate the kind words
So i have been faffing about , not much done on the hs , but here's the story so far ..
now i have my tiger loop , i can lower the tank ,however , being a feeble husk of a man , i decided to delay that , and my kindly oil man was good enough to do me a short order of 200 litres , price is down to 75 ppl , which is a lot better than 81 . so that arrived last tuesday , and i am running the heating on boiler temp 50c , and just leave it on all day , and that seems to be an economical way to run it , then i use the wood burner in the evenings . if it's sunny then the windows bring in enough heat to turn it off during the days sunshine . it's only about 14c in the hs , but i seem to have got used to it , and it feels ok , sitting room about 16c and then warmer in the ev with the wood burner on .
Another interesting thing i found out is , with the wood burner ,i read a downloaded instructions , and it appear that , for wood , you supposed to take out the grate , and put in a layer of sand , and burn on that ! who knew !
so i just left the ash in until it built up over the grate , and it seems much easier to use .
TRactor wise , i went and did the oil change and filter , and tinkered about ,new battery and she fired right up , needs an alternator and a silencer , however the owner doesnt seem to be finding it easy to come up with price hes happy with , so for the moment he suggested i simply borrow it for a few weeks or months , and i said yes . i was surprisingly dissapointed by this , but i should be v happy .,,strange . he was supposed to be bringing it round last afternoon , but nothing appeared , so i guess its been delayed by some farming stuff.
Anyrdup ... i decided to go on a trip to oxon , and pick up another load of stuff. now i know i can make it there and back on one tank , it was ok that witney still had no gas , i called up stoke church , and they had gas so off i went ..
all should be fine ...
er...
no...
sit rep , i am on fumes but enough to get there , got there , start filling ,,4 litres in , pump stops , repeat clicking of button , gets another 0.2331166 litres .
BUM.
talk to counter girl , vacuum of info ,talk to in shop person , she goes back to vacant girl , and then says engineer here in 45 mins , i elect to wait till 11 to see whats what .
nice chap arrives , looks at pumps and tanks ... , yup ,their empty .
no idea when new calor delivery .
so now i have 17 miles to go home , then 17 miles to get back , 34 miles on 4 litres , time for another 1500 to 2000 rpm cruise across the hills ...coasting downhill where possible .
now , i know i was doing 7.4 pence per mile , and thats pretty good , but sometimes its a bit of a faff lately with calor and flo gas being basically , and fundamentally ..
A shower!
so alternative car number one is being kicked into play .
or it would be if it it would start !
yup , more fun on the farm lol.
So there i was lah de dah off to get somethimg , and jumped into the spud ,span over well , just no firing , put in my spare gallon , nope , walked 2 miles round trip to stn and got another gallon, put in ....nope .
started checking hoses and taking things apart , found fuel pressure at carb , but no fuel getting into engine , pushed many psi down pipe to float bowl , nothing , blocked needle ...tappity tapped the carb , a lot ...
nope .
now the engine bay on the spud is a little bit packed , and only after taking out the intercooler , turbo pipes , rocker box , inlet manifold, carb , plenum , and numerous pipes could i get to the float bowl .
working conditions were also a little cramped ..
my furry companion found it a fascinating climbfest ..
finally ,after a fair bit of hand damage, got it all apart to find this ..
grubby .
most interesting was upon dissasembly , the needle fell out , but close inspection showed a clear plasticy layer on the tip , which i scraped off by spinning it inside a cone of fine wire wool .strange . my guess is driving it after 8 years loosened up some varnishy stuff , and then parking it for a few weeks let it set hard fixing the needle in place .
E10 prob didnt help .
anyrdup , got it back together and she fired right up .nice . off to the shops on saturday .
one slight prob started up and that was a high power cut out , almost like a lean back fire , and on monday ,when i went to see the tractor farmer to try to get a price agreed ,and pick up my oil pan and welding rods , oh and to have a look at his stock trailer he has offered for me to borrow with his pickup to go to oxon with , i found the poxy spud cutting out on me . then starting then cutting , i found if i pushed on the dash it would keep going ,so , after my negotiation failure i got back and had a good look and tracked it down to the ignition switch plastic plug , with a dirty terminal in it ...
hopefully.
i also fixed an indicator ,fitted ariel, killed rust ,set tyre pressures, and did other small jobs on it .
Apart from all that car malarky , i did get to cut these off ..
the old girders for the cow shed roof ...
did burn the lower bonfire ..
in other news , a roofer is coming on sunday hurrah , so maybe i can get that big chimney openned and we can find that leak . had a great convo with him , there seems to be a load of people up here that have bought derelict farms and moved up from southern england . i said we should start a club !
Snowing outside , so i may do a bit of painting today .
Hasta luigi,
regards
robert
