Can a Q plated car that was built before 1980 be MOT & Tax free?

Q plate's didn't come in till 1985 as far as I'm aware, so as of next year the earliest registered Q plate cars will become tax exempt.

I wouldn't think so because the concept of the 'Q' plate was introduced in '83 with the change from suffix to prefix year identification other changes to registrations. Willing to be educated if someone else knows better.

If it's got a declared date of first use/ manufacture on the logbook it's possible for a later issued Q to be historic.
First issued in late '83 so one issued at that time would be historic already.
