Hello! After the lapse of so many years safety of those places is interesting, from where it is difficult to remove corrosion and where sandblasting wasn't made. namely: Also influence of climate very essentially.

There was one of these round the corner from me for years - totally identical to yours, maybe a little lower and with a duel exit exhaust, up until about last christmas it seems to have been either garaged up or replaced by a new mini. The guy has had it for years too, however it always seemed to be in between being laid up for a six month period. I did wonder if you had bought it as you were in Glasgow and so local.

I'm pretty sure you are thinking of the one in this pic parked beside mine: West of Scotland VW club night by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr It was an early model and the owner was in the navy so may explain the periods of lay up. I've admired your car since it came up in a Google image search in early 2008, when I'd just picked up a set of KN Mercury alloys for the Capri. Your Geminis came up somewhere along the way, as I tried to work out what I'd actually bought, and helped convince me I'd made the right choice. It's only taken me another seven years to get to your resto thread, but I'm damn pleased I did - lovely car fella.

Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car

Just had a look at your link, love the Capri and the advert for the wheels. Mine new were a whole £22.50 per wheel, I picked mine up for £40 for all 5 but they looked like this; Many hours work later got them like this; Dave.

My Type 3 fastback had started developing an exhaust leak at the end of last summer and I had intended doing a top end overhaul over winter. The overhaul didnt happen but show season is starting so I thought I better at least tackle the horrible sounding leak. Thinking I was going to have to use one of my NOS heat exchangers I have saved for the engine rebuild I was pleasantly surprised to see it was just a blanking plate that had failed. Plate off and some weld down the hole, didnt even need to take the engine out. Bit of a bodge but job done. It sounds MUCH better, no more flames licking the carburettor and it will be fine until I get to that top end overhaul. Also treated it to a new set of boots as the only advisory on the MOT was for perished tyres. New boots for the fastback by Dave Campbell, on Flickr New boots for the fastback by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Once off the car it was clear the old tyres were well past their best even though they had plenty of tread. Two things have struck me today. In June it will be 10 years since my wee fasty was hit by the bin lorry.........10 fecking years!!!!! Where did the time go? So I dug it out this week to get it ready for its MOT test on Friday and the next thing that struck me was the odometer. Since the MOT last year I have covered a grand total of......... 8 miles! I really must use it more or get it sold but it does look good out in the sun (even if the bumpers could do with a re-chrome); Fastback 2017 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Fastback 2017 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr Fastback 2017 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr I will update with the MOT results on Friday.
