Top work there with regards to the resto. Great to see one done 'right' . OT, but about the oil front, I found 15W50/15W40 worked best. Morris SAE30 used to make my Beetle overheat (a 1200 with a 1300 TP engine), which I thought was just my engine but I know either Paul H or Filmidget had a similar problem with an aircooled VW which went away with a multigrade or Penrite 30 (albeit much pricier than Morris). but Morris SAE30 is merely old recycled oil according to the grapevine. Either way, I hope that you have more luck with your modern engine.

Amazing build Dave! Looks like you didn't skimp out on anything, and glad to see another type 3 saved and done up right. P.S. I wish we had these in the US. I know many people who would love to have a transporter to haul around their cars.. haha

Anybody who can remember back long enough might remember me frantically trying to get my engine built for the Scottish VW owners show last year and failing. Shockingly, this years show in Biggar is next weekend and my new enging is still sitting in boxes I really should have pulled my finger out. Still, the car is running and will be at the show so if you are near Biggar next weekend (23rd-24th) come to the show. I will be manning the route9autos marquee and selling freshly ground coffee. For last years show we arranged a cardboard car rally and I built a mini me of my fasty; It survived storage and will be racing again this year if I can find 2 drivers. Dave.

I was feeling brave at the weekend and I let SWMBO drive my fastback; We were setting upmy marquee at Volksfling so it dosnt really count as she was in a field but was still the first time she was brave enough to have a shot. I got a couple of pics but pretty crappy quality; The black Beetle in the line up is Joanne's (SWMBO) daily. Had a great weekend, Dave.

I know I should be working on the engine but I loaned the fasty to a car dealership for the weekend. Looks cool on show; Dave

I don't know if anybody is still following this thread but I'll post an update anyway.
I loaned my car to BBC Alba (Gaelic telly) yesterday for them to film a feature for their version of Top Gear.
I made it to the small sprint track and the sun was out, all going well until the TV presenter hit the gas instead of the brake going into a bend and took a detour through long, rough grass.
No real damage done (I hope) but managed to damage a brake line so the pedal went to the floor and the car came home on an RAC wagon.
The upside is that while they were filming so was I so I will be puting together another video in the next few weeks. Watch this space.
Dave.

I will be sending them the bill and they did say if there was any damage they would pay for repairs so fingers crossed they honor their promise.
Glad somebody is still here,
Dave

Sunday was the Bathgate indoor VW show so as I had a stall with my Route 9 autos vans I decided to take along my fasty for the show and shine. Flanked by an SP2 and a type 4; Trying to make space indoors for the winter as the 2 years outside has left a couple of stains on the paint annoyingly. Dave.

Thanks and the TV company paid up for repairs without a problem. As soon as its broadcast I should get a copy which I will hopefully stick on youtube so I will post a link if I can.

The orange car has just been bought by Nick, another member of the West of Scotland VW club.
Still no news on broadcast dates which is a bit annoying but I think I will drop them an email to see if its going to happen soon.
Dave.
