Just planning on HID's for high beam only. Also need to plan the rest of the lighting. I'm thinking running lights along the sides with strobe yellows in the grille and convoy lights and a low level light bar at the back of the cab so I can be seen while crawling up hills at 15mph Now thats a good idea. Love the stacked headlights tho, that little block to the side is perfect to mount the indicators in tho, rather than in the headlights..... The two wheel drive S used this for side lights I think i have a pair of newly chromed sidelight surrounds, if you decide to go that route

HYDRAULIC CYLINDER HELP NEEDED
This is not my area of expertise at all (little is) but I'm in the middle of an altercation between two companies over whether single-acting or double acting cylinders should be used.
The plan so far is to use two hydraulic cylinders to raise and give lateral rigidity to the bed. The back of the bed has an overhang past the pivot to give us some extra length and that means that at a certain point of loading/unloading, the car weight will be pulling on the cylinders and not pushing as normal. One company says the rams can be pulled out on single-acting (cheaper) so double-acting would be the way to go.
I've looked on t'internet until I'm thoroughly confused so if there is someone here with some practical experience could they please speak up.
Cheers,
Ian

I would use double acting. If you pull on a single acting cyliner you risk air getting into the system and loosing control over the ramp.

So a strange update of sorts The 12,000lb winch is on (photos later), the ramp guides are fitted and we will be trying up the spare wheel on the wheel winch for attachment to the bed next week. The double-acting hydraulic cylinders have been ordered. Kevin (good guy) from Weldtec came over to pick up the spare wheel and we broke our backs getting the 200lb wheel and tyre on the back of Kevin's truck Now to introduce couple of new members of the Goddess team. Their input is small but highly significant. The story goes back to the field and tiny piece of woodland, that I have access to, behind the house, where I keep and work on the Goddess. The Trustees of the Scott Estate insist that it is 'amenity' land so I can keep the Goddess and my trailer there according to them. However to the Planning Department at the Council it is green belt land and therefore the only activities and any vehicles stored on it must be of an agricultural nature. We started growing vegetables but it was only a 'kitchen garden'. Chickens were out as they need too much attention, we use the neighbours sheep as grass mowers but they're not ours so the solution was to suggest that one of the uses of the Goddess would be used to pick up animal feed and straw for THE FABULOUS BACON BOYS (actually they're sisters!) Meet Oink and Squeak So what have I been doing while the Goddess has been at the welders? Making a pig ark out of pallets and big packing cases found lying around at work. I did think of sticking this into Readers Other Modifications but that may have been taking the wazz.

Awesome logic, I can imagine the conversation now:
[Council Man] "What's that enormous ratty old lorry for?"
[Frankenhealey] "It's for delivering food to my pair of pigs, I wouldn't have got them if I'd realised the eat THAT much!
[Council Man] "meh, OK"
This project is epic and doesn't deserved t be messed with by planning people!

Well we got some work done this week ;D 1) Spare wheel winch fitted 2) UHMWPe ramp guides fitted 3) Hydraulic rams stirrup designed and tacked on 4) Starting side and rear bodywork sizing and design Still taking photos through the f3ckin wire as I couldn't get down there this week to take close-up photos so have been frustrated by having to do everything by phone and email. General view of everything. You can see the spare wheel now mounted by the wheel winch. Closer view of the ramp guides and ramp storage This is the ram stirrup just tacked on until the rams and power pack arrives next week. and finally we're trying to visualise the height of the side and back bodywork. The square tubing is set to the same height as the original BUT IT LOOKS TOO HIGH without the upper bodywork to offset it. Hmmmm!

This weekend Matthew I will be a Firestarter, Firestarter!!!In fact I'm burning the old Goddess body over a few sessions so not stir up the neighbours like this It's a bit sad, like a Viking Ship Burial, but without the dead norseman, treasure or ship. None of my mates would volunteer for immolation so I've just been trying to get through the mountain of wood and without getting a splinter off the teak planking. The lower body frames are now being assembled. I could have gone for a low rider look but it would have restricted access underneath and if it doesn't work out then well just start again.

Starting to come together- progress on the hot metal gluing front more than makes up for the ceremonial toasting of the old bodywork. Still want one...
