Sounds ideal, but maybe wait until the end of the month before arranging anything Seth has pointed me at one that I might be mine by next week. Also waiting to hear if we're heading your way again for 1 week at end of month (so can divert and collect to save Pony Express ). Will let you know as soon as I know what I'm doing (err... ) Cheers ;D

How's this going? Repair all sorted? Wanted to see this when I was back Xmas - but family took over and I missed out on this, Coggers n co and others too in the gloriously sunny (it WAS at Xmas) NE.
Update on this needed fella - was tellin' my old man (he had a couple - and the singer variants) and he wanted to check it out.

Sorry for pulling this up from obscurity, but is there been any updates on this? It's been an up and down ride since purchase, hopefully the last few months have been all good.

Oops - no updates for a while as I've just been putting petrol in it and clocking up the miles ;D One of the last things before it came out of mothballs was to replace both front seats, this is the only car I have ever bought that had 3 different coloured seats (grey drivers, sandy yellow front passenger, black plastic rear). Tasty black fronts from a modern Vauxhall fit nicely

Have been spending a good bit of time in Wales (the cars spiritual home ;D), had great fun last winter playing in the snow ;D ;D ;D Got back from the pub 11pm, no snow. Looked out the window 2am and snow had come down hard then stopped. HOW much in less than 3 hours Went for a drive around the block (locals said the roads were impassible but what do they know - they don't have a RWD Hunter ;D ), was planning to return home that day but changed my mind when the usual 2 hour trip around the local lake took 7 hours Fun tho ;D I would have made it without getting stuck if it hadn't been for those pesky kids 2 morons in 4x4s parked blocking the road having a chat so I had to stop when I was going uphill Edit : pic links

Next on the list... MOT is due in 2 weeks time (3 new tyres fitted yesterday, windscreen washers rewired and now working, brakes good, exhast welded up last week). Shame my 3 local "old car frendly" test stations have changed staff recently Also collecting info to see if there's a cheap & easy Diesel motor that will bolt up to the existing 1725 overdrive box. Would be nice to find a way to mount up a Pug 1.7/1.9 XUD lump, the car rolls great but better MPG would be nice Any other suggestions for easy cheap DIY engine swaps appreciated. Diesel preferred but will look at petrol if cheap and gives good mpg. Any work has to pay for itself so ideally something I can pick up for scrap value (older Pug / Citroen 1.9?), if I can find a way to keep the existing box it should save £££ and hopefully make the swap easier. Any suggestions welcome Joke? Just to see what swaps have been done before I Googled "Hunter Diesel Engine conversion" - guess I got lucky, the place below has a stock of Diesel Hunter parts ... or possibly they are fibbing www.breakersweb.co.uk/Hillman-Car-Parts/Hillman-HUNTER-Parts/Hillman-HUNTER-DIESEL-PUMP/"nissan Z-series engines [1800 - 2400cc] are a near perfect fit" - anybody know which UK cars got Z's ? Are mountings same as more modern (economical) Nissans? www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20621&sid=ff26be2263ea4879a7a7798a24521619Just found out they were still making Hunters in Iran until about 2005 news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4551841.stmFord V8 289 (it fits in a Fastback Rapier so why not ) www.sunbeamcarclubofnewzealand.org.nz/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=76:v8-sunbeam-rapier-fastback&catid=38:articles&Itemid=56Also saw a mention of the MX5 motor, can be picked up for £200/£300 and fits up ok Anybody have any more info? Have fun

A couple of very small updates... Found the reason one tyre kept going flat when I wasn't watching. It turned out to be a split on the valve - easy to see if you bent the valve flat onto the rim - impossible to see otherwise. Now fixed (simple things please me) ;D Need to get pics with the new rubber, I do prefer the way it sits and handles with the new 155-80-13s up front Non-car issue, finally updated my web browser to Safari as I was getting fed up of update/nag screens in Firefox, 1st impressions of Safari are good, it copes better with page width - no more need to scroll left & right to see big pics ;D And RR is one of the very first sites I have tried it on Have been having more fun with paperwork. My insurance expired at the end of the month, can't get though to my current insurers (Footman James ) on the phone to renew it and they're not replying to emails Tax ran out at same time. Had to declare the car SORN and take insurance with a different broker, new insurance certificate should have been here today but it's not - so car is off the road for at least the weekend until I get my new certificate and can tax it. Shame as my car club are having an open day tomorrow On the plus side, just got a pair of NOS rear shocks (unique to the Estate) cheap from Ebay, one has a slight oil weep - hoping it will settle once it's on the car and been used for a couple of miles

Tasty black fronts from a modern Vauxhall fit nicely those are Vectra seats from a CD model and should have heater pads in the bottoms, looking at your next pictures you could have done with those during the snow! In the vectra they were just on or off, so might be easy bum warming addon for you?

First the good news - it passed the MOT ;D Then MORE good news - I've just found my new favorite MOT station ;D ;D Pics below say it all Checking the MOT certs, it looks like it has done just under 6k miles this year - less than I thought. Final score... 1 bottom balljoint (not a bad job but a pig to break the joint even using a borrowed splitter), 1 front brake flexi, mixed feelings here, Hillman keep all the joints in the engine bay so they're not covered in road cr@p (Ford - are you listening?), only problem was brake pipe connector was siezed onto the pipe so had to unscrew the flexi from the car with caliper still attached 2 small welding patches in the floor (annoying, the metal bridge between rubber drain and sills (new last year) has rotted out since the last MOT The automatic handbrake adjusters - errm - don't We also got some odd comments from the tester, he was expecting it to fail on a massive scale when he first saw it but was very happy when he saw underneath (the oil leaks from engine, gearbox, and back axle might have something to do with lack of rust : Overall, I'm a happy bunny The MOT place are convinced they sold my car a few years ago and it went to Wales. Paging KFW - any ideas where this came from originally? Will be kinda spooky if it was sold in the North East, went to Wales, and by chance I've taken it back to the place that originally sold it There aren't that many green Hunter Estates in regular use Apologies for the dodgy quality of the cameraphone pics Loads of old tat lying around to keep me interested while they're doing MOT-type stuff ;D

Pics of the latest arrivals Just missed out on a waterpump - still looking as mine was shot when I got the car and it's not got any better with use Will be fitted asap - I didn't want to do it before the MOT in case anything broke Also a set of 5 14" MGB wheels with very good tyres (4x165, 1x175) Shame I goofed and wheels are the wrong PDC Not sure what to do these, looking at removing the tyres and selling rims but am open to offers. PCD is 4 1/2" ie 114.3mm ? retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=20978May swap / part-ex for snow tyres to fit the Hillman, 13s or 14 on Ford rims? 175 max, 165 preferred. Edit for typo

Well, thanks to 4dr on here, I now have a tidy set of wheels on the Hunter ;D Was good to meet up, will hopefully see you at one of the local meets soon. Fronts are fine at 155, will see about getting some wider rubber at the rear to fill those arches Apologies as usual for the dodgy cameraphone pics, I really need to start carrying a half decent camera when I'm out Before & after... In other news, I finally got my finger out and bought a new water pump When I got the car the pump was dead, I finally got around to changing it last week Close on 2 years after being condemned and it just refused to die Most odd now - it starts without any squeals or squeaks ps. I now have a tidy set of wheels & tyres , a full spare (winter?) set with as-new tyres, and a full set of smart MGB wheels that I can't use. see my sig - PM me if you're insterested in the MGB wheels edit : pic links

Excellent... glad to see this still living looks bog ugly of course but I have a fond spot for these... my first car way back when was a gold coloured estate (ULM ...M) so same vintage. My second one was a hardly used Chrysler variant. Some chap got into the spirit of the first Plymouth Dakar Rally and took one of these down there through the sand and everything. It made it, of course... J
