The P1 is an official UK-market car built by Prodrive - it was commissioned by Subaru as a reaction to the flood of grey imports of high-performance Imprezas. The P1 uses the same basic 2-door shell as the 22B, but the clue's in the arches - if you look at both cars, you'll see that the P1 is slender-hipped while the 22B has whacking great rally-slag arches. Basically the P1 is a UK-only model (only 1000 were built) which is a kind of 22B set up for British roads. Cheers. Every day's a school day on RR I take the imported 2 door WRX's is what the P1 was trying to counter? I've seen these much cheaper than the P1's as I guess they're not a limited run. They weren't really trying to counter them as such. They were more a UK homage to the WRC car from Prodrive, which required a 3dr shell as the rally cars had turned 3dr by that point.

Well I love em. Heres my old one from before I was poor: Never let me down and was the 2nd best car I've ever owned. Also had a Fozzie which was great but blew up 6 weeks into ownership

They really don't handle that well at all, not at least in standard guise!
I've had 2, an early import sti and a sport wagon. I prefered the non turbo all day long...
Gotta worry about any car running 4 pistons on a crank about a foot long

See I like Imprezas but it is true whenever you see a youngster driving one you only think one thing "it's nicked"
For some strange reason I prefer the 4 door to the 2 dr seems a nicer shape to me. But those newer shape ones (bug eye) look awesome without a rear spoiler. ;D
Had a mate who worked for a tyre place had a 95 turbo tuned up a bit. Had to run it on top grade fuel and nearest garage that did it was at least 20 miles away. He used to fill it up and it'd be almost half empty by the time he got back.
One guy I met had a rare one cant remember which model except is was the wagon variety (sure he said catalunya but they arent that rare are they? but he said he was gutted when he crashed it and even more gutted when the insurance company told him it was the last one in the UK.

They really don't handle that well at all, not at least in standard guise! What makes you say that? Old, tired early imports will feel just that, old and tired, and the sports never handled that well due to tiny ARBs and very soft dampers. The only complaint i've ever heard about the Imprezas handling is a bit of understeer on the limit, but that is exactly what the majority of drivers will be looking for, and can be eradicated with a £150 adjustable rear ARB.

Mine were both classics, a my93 and a my96, neither of them were tired! I find them horribly 'pushy' in the corners, I really have no confidence in them.
Saying that my mate owns a my03 sti with 2k's worth of coilovers proffesionally setup and that handles amazingly, till it let's go, then it's uncontrollable!
My sport out handled most of the tubbies in my local scoob club, it seemed to bias the back so was much more checkable!
Each to there own I guess, I'd own another, but it would be a bugeye gx wagon...

Right, once again this forum is going to get me a rollocking, and the blame is directy attributed to this thread as I've just bought an RB5 in need of a bit of engine TLC... So would the RR'ers who got me in this mess please let me know all about RB5's in order to pacify the better half ?!!!

The engines in the quick ones, are they any use for swaps? Or is the flat 4 an issue for most engine bays?

No Adam there a very short block in relation to a conventional 4 cylinder engine & they don't hang out over the front wheels as the mounts are smack in the middle of the block!

They certainly are a lot shorter than your standard inline 4, I just mean there's quite a lot that sticks out infront of the engine meaning its not actually as short as you'd think: Its all comparative though. I'm pretty sure last time I looked at my mums the whole engine was infront of the strut tops, and unless the driveshafts angle forward a lot the whole engine has to be infront of the front wheels no? Unlike a transverse engine where often they lean back over the axle line allowing for a short front end.
