Basically I'm interested in retro rides as I'm sure you all are and i was wondering what a good first car would be it needs to be not to large fairly nippy but not too fast as my insurance will rocket something thats not to expensive its got to look the business and handle fairly well but most of all i want something thats different from all the normal cars that teenagers drive e.g Corsa, pug, etc .and something thats not to bad to insure

Vauxhall Chevette? 1256cc engine, 2 or 4dr saloon, 3dr hatch, lots of scope to make them better with handling and engine swaps, so can evolve as your insurance drops.

A mini seems an obvious choice but I fear they may be rapidly pricing themselves out of the first-car market!
An old Vauxhall seems to fit the bill!

Nova or mk1/2 fiesta would get my vote, cheap to insure and run. Can be made to look cool cheaply enough and are easily fixed.

But I don't imagine either would actually be that cheap to insure Austin... Though a Cappuccino would be Groovy baby... (Consider my coat grabbed)
Telling us what sort of cars you're interested in will help though. J tin, Dubs, British stuff...
K10 Micra or an Acclaim get my vote too, modern enough to be forgiving to a new driver, but old enough to be retro... Easy to repair if you bump it and pretty much jump in and drive motoring... Which is what you'll want to do, drive anywhere and everywhere for no reason at all.
