Thanks speede take it yours is either being `modified´ or awaiting better weather Yer bmwv8capri, wanted to engineer out the herald weak points, so the trunions have gone too remember reading about the herald prototypes being driven across African and almost everything broke!! just seamed to prove you shouldn't drive a herald across a desert!!! I do like your capri had a mk1 when l was younger, took it off the road to restore but never finished it ended up selling the solid shell to a block rebuilding a rotten RS3.1. gavs1 just read your thread yesterday completely missed it, going to be a rocket when you're finished. Been at mine for over 5 years now so fitting stuff on and not taking it off is a real mojo boost, wonse the starter is on l can fit the bulk head inplace and turn the engine over with the key

It just sits outside the house and then every now and again I take it out for a damn good thrashing! lol I'm still trying to get my head around building the Megasquirt. The physical construction is no problem, but uploading the software etc is taxing me. Apparently I'm just not that proficient with computers!

Wifes daily has been causing go slow on the herald, basicaly we had realy nice estima and some stupid woman rammed straight into the Diesel oil and water leak 2 out of three fixed so far and just got MOT on it.
Also got the speedo done which was a right head scratcher l can tell you had to had 90 degree angle drive as no room and found no one made one also had to have output for speed sensor for the ECU even though the escort still had cable drive speedo. ] ebay came up trumphs with and angle drive off a volvo though must have metric thread and it did was only 3 quid because it was seized but easily got it freed up. Then took it apart and welded the other end to the auto speedo cable end and hey presto angle drive for less than a fiver result, also moded the drive cable so it was escort one end and herald the other!
chassis almost ready to put the bulkhead to go on, just need to fit the starter motor and kick down cable.
Thx
Rob

just read the whole thread - great build I'm doing an auto mx5 into a Scimitar Sabre (Ford diff as standard). We discounted a 3 speed auto on the standard RWD CVH as it would be too revvy at motorway speeds (although it would have fitted with next to no mods!) - what ratio do you have, 3.92?

Snap! Kinda. My handbrake fits but has to stay up. Trying to decide whether to rotate it slightly, move it to one side or a combination of both. What you gonna do yourself?

Thanks Fern, been following your mx5 herald was using the escort handbrake anyway so l'll have to sort a new cable routing and lever mounting.

So this is the big gapping hole l had to cut out to clear the prop.... this is about where the hand brake lever will sit just need to run up some mounting plates and weld them inplace thi si the bloody third time l have fitted the handbrake lever!!! thi is the third time l have fitted the hand brake lever ..... so all the stuff l have fitted to the bulkhead will have to stay as the loom has been fitted now. It will just be a bit heavy....dooh Thanks for looking, will report the next"what the curse word" saga!!!!

Nice to see some good progress on this. keep it going mate Still progressing MrSpeedy, sorting more of the electrical gremlins even though l am using the escort wiring loom found the wiring to the brake lights was fubar and the brake switch was shot as well, sorted the starter inhibitor for the auto box by adding a relay, the problem l have found is the all the gauges in the Herald were historical for + earth and the escort used - earth, but the 13/60 Herald was - earth l hear you say and yes it was but the gauges still worked other way round so all they did was use the earth to switch it. So l have bought an escort dash and will graft the escort fuel and temp gauge into the herald dial cluster This leads me into the next job, the wooden dash was shot with extra hole cut and water damage, so a trip the B&Q and found an ideal replacement no not another bit of timber, a length of gutter facia board water proof and easy to cut with the added bonus of it being paintable This with the centre console will be body colour so it matches the door tops. Thanks for looking!!

Well dash has been painted l these shots show it offered up and l can say I'm please with the result and it will look different than original but still a retro theme, think i'll put some early herald badge under the heater controls, the clock and retro look audi are going in the center stack when that is painted, my brother has finished the front seats so need to build the rear seat, going to use a Ka rear seat because it looks about the same size but a trawl over the local scapy should come up trumps If you are wondering what the little rocker switches are they are electric window switches
