I've a Polo that was given to me by a colleague of my wife when she emigrated, which I sold to a mate for €100, but his son didn't want it, so it sat for a while before I borrowed it back.

My Herald which is my daily driver at the moment was free, and its done me 2 years of happy motoring since.
Just about to be given an Astra aswell on Saturday. Other than the fact its an Astra I have no other clues as to what its like. Age? Mot? Tax? Who knows. Personally I'm hoping for a mk1 or 2. Fingers crossed eh?

My best efforts are probably:
£90 for a 1989 Passat estate GT 16v with 11months MOT - sold for £500 £106 for a mk1 golf 1.1 that needed nothing for a MOT -sold for £500 £109 for a mk2 Golf GTI - donor car £143 for a 2000 Citroen Xsara VTR with 9months MOT 6 months tax - my new daily. Although the figure is up £90 as the exhaust fell apart 3 days after I collected the car....grrrrr

I've had a bunch of free cars. Usually Vauxhall Victors and the like, plus a Midi van with some MOT I had an Avenger for £20, a Morris Minor for £35, Victor for £50 (both estates) the Victor I ran for about 6 months and the engine blew up. twice. and I had a Capri for £70 which was my daily for a year. Free Victor This blue Victor saloon I gave £100 for. Same money (or was it £110) bought me a Mk2 Cavalier with T&T

I'm not very good at getting cheap car's as when they were cheap I didnt change cars very often.
Bought a Ford Orion & Mini (when I was 14) non runners, never saw the road £50 each.
2001 Caddy van £250, ran but didnt drive, fixed it, ran it, sold for £1200 lol.
cheapest car with T&T is my Polo, 2000 W plate £470 but needed some work doing so owes me £900 now but that includes doing stuff that didnt need doing.
Best value car I ever bought was my Suzuki Rascal, Paid £400 for it with 12 months MOT, stuck 1 years tax on it (£125) replaced the battery £20, bought a brand new 8x4 roof rack for 99p. Used it for 11 months while renovating my house, so saved me about £1500 in skips and delivery charges. Sold it in 24hrs on ebay for £475 with 1 month T&T on it.

For runners with T&T.........
£206 for a 1985 Peugeot 305 S5 Estate. Except it didn't have any tax and two months' (it was either 1 or 2) MOT.
Non runners........
£200 for an Isuzu Piazza Turbo. Yes, a different one. And no, you can't have the back axle off it.

£36 - Volvo 340 1.4, Fluke ebay win. came with half a tank of fuel with 2 owners and 60k on the clock. foolishly i scrapped it because it was an auto. i was still studying at the time and didnt have the cash to mot it, wish i had known better back then £50 - Rover 400. my first car, fantastic car that served me well for about a year. had a new battery and clutch in that time and i ended up scrapping that due to an electrical fault.
