Hi Chaps, Can any of you recommend a rear wheel drive gearbox that can handle 400bhp.? I heard that there is a Toyota one but can't remember the model of it.
Also if it will fit an Audi S8 V8 40v then that would be even better and something that's not made of poor quality wobbly children's play pony poop would be good too.
Thanks.

Would it not be easier to get the box out of the audi?

I'm not looking to buy a complete car beforehand as a donor to rape all the stuff of it and the manuals are rare as hell, the autos have electrickery gizmos I want to avoid (yeah the engine will have a megasquirt fitted unless I can fool the std ecu) but I don't want any more headaches than necessary.

I think you would endure a lot more headache trying to size up gearboxes and getting a bellhousing etc made up , Aa gearbox is not hard , something from a tvr or mustang , tremac etc .

Porsche Cayenne used the Audi V8, so possibly box from that, without transfer Box?? not sure how many manuals there are out there though. Should handle 400 ponies.

its torque you need to consider not power.

There's plenty to choose from mate t5 cosworth 2wd or even the Tvr version of it ,although the speedo drive and bell housing are different , skyline box , or even the bmw get rag dogleg box are more than capable over 400bhp

unless the donor gearbox has the option of a bellhousing that already fits your desired engine - you're not going to have a good time. I'm currently looking to mate an engine and gearbox that have possibly not even been in the same room before, let alone fitted together Getting an adaptor made to hold the two perfectly in-line isn't a simple task. Even being 1mm off, can spell disaster for anything more than a few short blasts

In terms of mating gearbox to engine provided it is not too 'off piste try Lakewood. Has the added advantage of being a scattershield so will also save your feet in the event of anything letting go . WWW.lakewoodindustries.comP.
