nmretro - Thank you very much. Glad you're enjoying the progress. mk2polobloke - Thanks buddy, I'm really pleased that people compliment me on my attention to detail. It's really nice to read. I am really looking forward to enjoying the BIS. fuldatramp - I'm glad you enjoy the thread. The 126s are really small, you must have an empty corner somewhere. Hopefully it'll be hitting the road sometime in Spring. I'm really looking forward to it being completed too. I'll definitely review it for you. So it's now time for an update. Been completing the engine to get it ready to put back in the car. I've checked the clutch and release bearing. They're both in great condition so they will go back in to the car. I greased up in the input shaft and refitted the gear box back on to the engine. Next up I stripped and repainted the flywheel inspection plate. Ready to refit. Then it was the starter motor which has been rubbed down and cleaned and then clear coated. I then took out the gearbox oil level filler plug. Unfortunately it was rounded and a little bit chewed up as you can see. It was a 13mm square head. Although it was well rounded off. However it was in good condition elsewhere. So I decided not to replace and instead to try and repair. After some grinding on the wheel I was left with this. I managed to turn it down to a 12mm head and got it nice and straight. Next up tomorrow is fitting the inlet manifold and carbeurettor. Then it's ready to be back in the car. Hopefully it will be back in the car before the weekend. As usual, all comments welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Today's update on the BIS. First of all, it was out with the old dirty gearbox oil. This was the remnants of what was poured away. Then it was in with the lovely new clean 80W/90 oil via syringe through the filler hole. Let's see a close up of the new fresh clean oil. Apparently I've read that the oil in these gearboxes needs changing every 6000 miles or 6 months like the engine oil. Next up was the new gearbox mounts, one was a bargain NOS buy from EBay, the other cost me a bit more. Next up it was time to fit the inlet manifold and carburettor. Next up it was time to slide it all back under the 126 and put it into position. Come the end of the day this is what I was facing. Got a few more jobs to do but it's nice to see the engine back in the car. As usual all comments welcome and thanks for looking.

Gadge - Cheers mate. I'm really pleased with how it looks so thank you for that. It does look quite factory now. I almost forgot about this update. A very kind member on here sorted me out with a brand new linkage part for my carburettor choke flap. He sent away for it to Poland and then sent it on to me. What an absolute gentleman. So here is a brand new linkage part. You can see the old broken one. This meant that I was able to rebuild the choke flap linkage so that it now works again like it should. One massive thank you to Simon. You're a star. Â ;D

Ok so time for an update on the BIS. I decided to remove the bumper and apron from the rear panel. Then it was time to soap it down and get rid of all that grease and grime. Then it was time to flip it around to the other side. It's covered in black underseal and rust protection. Which is fine to protect it but it looks a little tatty. As this can be seen from the engine bay I decided to recover it in White underseal to make it look more presentable which ended up looking like this. Next up it was time to fit the panel back on to the BIS. It went back in to the car so nicely with no issue at all. This means the engine and gearbox are fully secured back in to the car now which was a great feeling. Also fitted some new ignition leads and the vacuum pipe work. Along with the freshly painted carbeurettor intake housing. The engine is almost done now.

Update time on the little BIS. Firstly I got the fuel tank back from my Sandblaster. Rightly or wrongly I made the decision not to spray it or get it powder coated. Instead I decided to give it a good few coats of Hammerite Smooth. Came out quite well so I was happy. Then it was a matter of getting the full length braided fuel lines fitted on to the tank. You may remember before I had only joined them to the old lines before I decided to remove the tank. Now they are full length. Tank back in to the car (which was grief lying on the floor on my back) fuel lines plummed in. Air filter fitted and filled up with 15W40 Mineral oil. Fresh coolant bled and here is how it's all looking. Got this little air filter replacement sticker. I couldn't get the period correct sticker so the Fiat emblem is wrong. However it does the job. Then with on a few turns from the fresh 077 battery I was greeted with this: Thanks all for looking, as usual all comments welcomed and appreciated.

dikkehemawerst - Thanks mate, yes it does run smoothly and starts so easily from cold now the choke is working. It's a little rattly when warm which I'm guessing is probably tappets? Or are these engines quite loud? I have little experience of them up to now. lewis - Thanks buddy, hope you keep following. luckygti - That's a massive compliment mate. Thank you very much indeed. Hopefully I can give you some inspiration for your Mini. Just remember it's all in the details. Ok so it's time for another update on the BIS and I'm pleased to say it's a fairly big one. I got it back down on the ground and showed it daylight for the first time in months. However it was looking absolutely filthy and in need of a real deep clean. Here's a close up of the roof. Out with the snow foam as per usual. Whilst I was letting the foam do it's thing, I turned my attention to the plastic bumpers. I thoroughly cleaned them, then I treated them to some of the Boiled Linseed oil treatment. As you can see from this picture the difference to the treated and untreated. Then after a few hours under the RUPES polisher the little BIS was looking much better. Here's the roof and how it looks after all the polishing. The plan tomorrow is to put some of the trims back on including the bumpers. Thanks all for looking.

fer4l - Thank you very much sir. dikkehemaworst - I am very tempted to go down that road. I might do it in the future. Gadge's Luigi II is such fantastic inspiration. However I also like the clean look and 80s styling of mine. We will see. Anyway, time for today's update. First thing was, you may notice that I still have the hole cut out in the sill. I haven't got the welder out yet. There was a passed repair on the o/s/r sill that I really wasn't happy about. So I bit the bullet, got the angle grinder out and cut out the repair. Here's the piece I cut out. See if you can see what I was worried about. Yup, you guessed it. Here's the opposite side of the removed panel. Your standard MOT repair panel welded over the rusty hole. I'll weld both sides up soon by making plates that fit inside the gap and not overlapping. I also cracked on with putting the car back together. Put the trims and bumpers back on. The BIS is starting to look back how it should again. Did a cheeky little collage of the engine bay before and after. Thanks all for looking and hope you like the updates. All comments welcomed and appreciated.

Time for a little update. Had Roy 'The dent guy' round today. Needed a few dents repairing on some of the cars including the little BIS. Never had any paint less dent repairs done before. It's a skill that I greatly respect. This is Roy with a bigger collection of rods and hammers I've ever seen. This is one of the dents in the front wing, it looked like it was caused by the door check strap breaking at some point and the door connecting with the front wing. So here is the dent, which unfortunately it has cracked the paint. Then this is after Roys magic. With a little paint touch up you'll never notice it. Really pleased with his work.

shielsy68 - Yes I see what you're saying. I wasn't worried about the blending as its an area that will have textured stone chip on it anyway, so won't be an issue. stuey - Thanks buddy, got to love a BIS. Update time for the little BIS. An update that I am particularly proud of please to be bringing you. You may remember on the first page that I removed the interior from the BIS. The seats were very dirty and the material was really worn out. I mentioned having them retrimmed. Well I had a good look at the car and drew up some plans. I wanted a more classic look. The BIS doesn't have the nicest seats compared to the earlier cars but they are more comfortable. So what do you think to these? The material is a sacking type texture, it's a little rough to the touch. The grey is to compliment the darker grey of the rest of the interior. The dashpad and plastic trims. The stitching has been done in a more classic effect. The headrests have been permanently removed from the seats too. Door cards to match. Rear bench seats as well. The material on the back upright I've noticed needs pulling up straight but otherwise they're really good quality. All opinions welcomed and appreciated. What do you all reckon?

That came out really nice! Nice color and really nice finish. I'm too tall to loose the headrests , i had to lower the base of the seats otherwise i would not have fitted at all.... i fitted our car with an electric webasto sunroof out of a cinquecento soleil and altough not original , i'm loving it even more now. Specially in the sunny days. i did not read your comment from a while ago , but fiats have pretty noisy engines anyway , so do not worry. Lovely job on a truely great car. Keep an eye on stuey , he is going to supercharge his....

Time for a little update on the BIS. This was the original parcel shelf that was on the car. As you can see from the pictures it was looking sorry for itself as it had bleached in the sunlight and had some scratches. So I had the dilemma of what to do with it. I couldn't find a replacement part. Then I saw this thread on here. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/127954/flocking-notts-basedSo I contacted 'Prey' and asked him for a quote, he came back very quickly and very competitive. As he is a forum member I decided to support him. What a good decision that was. Check this out. To say I'm impressed is an understatement, the whole experience was great. Good communication, great postage, trustworthy. I cannot recommend enough.
