Ive been given some cash that I'm thinking about investing in another car, figured rather than bank the money Id use it to buy something that value is likely to increase on, I'm a big Lancia fan and have seen the prices of Integrales soar over the last 10 years, had a few 205 gtis and they seem to be going the same way at the moment. Got 10-12k to spend, already got a Volvo 960 estate for running around in, an MGB GT and an e46 M3, so looking for ideas for cars that might be a worthwhile investment that I would use occasionally, so far Ive come up with a 205 Gti, a 16v integrale, Thema 8:32, Fulvia, Volvo 850 t5r, Sierra Cosworth, old 60s saloon (Triumph 2000 PI etc), Id even considered a classic commercial like a Bedford J5 but don't know much about them. Suggestions please! Current fleet...

I had an e46 m3. Sold it for £8150 nearly 3 years ago, it's worth about 13k now gutted.
What ever you buy must be the sport version, RS focus, m3' gti etc, that's what I think though.

I was chatting to a classic car dealer in Cornwall a few months ago. His showroom had the usual top end classics - Aston Martin's, early 911's, Escort Mexico etc but he was saying he is buying and stockpiling as many Peugeot 205 1.9 GT' and late model Mk2 16v Golf GTi's as he can lay his hands on, as he thinks both models are set to spiral in price soon. Last model's of iconic cars seem to fetch a premium too. Run out model classic Mini Coopers from the end of production in 2000 are a good example - they are £15 to £20k for an immaculate low mileage one! I you could get a run out model Defender and hang onto it I think that would be a good investment long term.

Currently driving a 1972 BMW 1602 as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

I would get an e39 M5 to keep the M3 company (looks beautiful in red by the way!), I bought one a couple of years ago for £6350 and sold it a year later for £7000 with the only money spent being on maintenance and a service. A Sierra Cosworth is a good shout though.

Any special/limited editions and last of the line models, or at the other end of the scale - get something basic which no-one else will bother with and mothball it.
I work at a Renault dealership and about 18 months ago we bought in a Renault Wind Gordini Edition - numbered plaque in the car said it was no.2 out of the limited run and it had only done about 1500 miles! sold more or less instantly, would probably be worth a fair bit in years to come if was looked after and used sparingly.

I reckon that wise money would be buying a big shed and filling it with any tidy (and either early or late production model) hot hatches of any persuasion! don't really see as you could loose.

996 911 for me.
I almost bought one April 2015, it was 8.5k at the time. Same spec, gt3 areo manual in a decent colour combination, decent miles and a decent history now seems to be work 15k+

all classic car prices are climbing at the moment..... 205 gti's were last years big risers.... 33% in the 1st quarter of last year.... Porsche 944's are also on the up, especially turbo's. 205's can still be got a reasonable money at the moment... I'd buy a couple of 6 grand cars if you're looking for a safe place to put your money.

Buy a barn/ warehouse to keep them in, then as above but you may have missed the boat on Cosworths. Mk4 escort cabs and xr3is are relatively unloved and cheap still. I can't see the MGBs making mega money there are simply too many of them

probably depends on how long you are going to keep your purchase and how it is going to be stored-more so than make and model of car. i mean, how much does a basic but clean mini go for these days? ..something that you couldve picked up for £50 at some point. how much is a clean mk3 escort? a big purchase doesnt mean that youre going to get a big return. if youre going for profit then spread your bets maybe because youd need a crystal ball to work out what is going to be fashionable in x amount of years. with regard to special editions, sports, rs, personally i think an audi rs is going to plumet for a very long time before there is a rekindled demand for them. plan to buy something now or something in the future that will be cheaper then.. just buy a lump of gold and you wont have to build a barn for it or just buy the car you really want and just assume thats its an investment already. id like to buy a couple of e28 525s that come out on sunny days and overwinter in a warm shed

I reckon good early mx5 will be big money in ten years. and these:
honda Crx mk2 vtec 106 gti saxo vts honda integra type r rs turbo (if not already) escort cosworths I recon will go the same way as the integralle and be £60k upwards jag xk8/xkr corrado vr6 storm or g60 subaru impreza rb5 and p1 mitsubishi evo VI astra and nova gsi/gte R5 turbo ducati 748, 996 and 998
Imo, all those could be had now for a lot less than they will be in several years time.
get a standard one in good condition and don't over pay for it, I don't think you can go wrong personally.
even if they don't go up you can enjoy using them.

Mk1 TT. They are as cheap as they'll ever be right now and the shape is aging well. Quattro Sport is the limited edition model to have, but I think the manual V6 they did in the last year of production will be one to hold on to.

Some escort cosworths are already 75k and rs turbo's have sold for 60k so that boat has sailed and come back for more !
