Oh, and the Durango was a 2005. So call it Durango 2005 My thinking straight away from the name was the Durango 95 from A Clockwork Orange. Or call it "real horrorshow" " The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark." Durango 2005 would look cool if you used a nice old car badge font and had it signwritten on in a chrome style. It's a tenuous idea for a name but I like it 😎 Durango 2005 from Clockwork Orange.

I'll be honest, I did not expect the rear end to fit together quite that well! Early days, obviously, with lots still to do and probably quite a lot of work that's not shown here where from putting the two halves together. It will be very interesting to see the front end back on and see if that lines up as well as the back. This has the makings of one very smart little project.

Your body hoist brought back memories of when I was doing the same thing. Only I think you are much smarter to be driving yours under the bodyshell! And since hindsight makes for the best engineering solutions, I will ask this: The wheelbase difference between the two vehicles is about 5 inches; about the same as the mismatch between the two firewallls . Rather than cut up the Durango firewall, with all the controls and structure that it entails, would it not have been cleaner to take a cut out of the floor pan and pull the Durango firewall back to match the Chevy's. Not criticizing, just kibitzing from the cheap seats and enjoying the show while having beer.

Good plan, LOVE that setup in your pic above! I didn't want to mess with the bottom half of the Durango floor pan because of the heat shields, the different shapes and contours and mounting points of things underneath, fuel lines, wiring, etc. It's easier to move the footbox, and pull the steering as far into the cabin as possible, then "box" it in, or tie it all together. I'm going to post a pic of how it all worked out... Gimme a few minutes

Nice! I do hope you'll match rim/tyresize so you won't have to reprofile the wheel well edges. They just so match the car...although the front could do with a slight bit more of an angle from the top down rearwards.

I already cut the rears. Took out three inches. The fronts are getting cut as well. I have bigger wider tires going on. Yeah... If the new owner wants something different, they can change it. These rims are staying, but I'll faux patina them.

Looks like it might be tight fitting the radiator....is there enough room? I´m also amazed how well it fits together.

I'm still cutting the front frame legs a little and it's getting an electric fan. I may need to use a remote location filler neck and keep the radiator down low. Not sure yet. I'll have to mock it all up and see. Today I grafted in the fuel filler neck and the filler door from the donor truck. It was removed from a flat panel, I curved it and got it on these bubble shaped 1940's fenders..

I'm not familiar with the US registering of this sort of thing, but what does it end up being? A rebodied 2004 Chevy, the 1940 Chevy or something else entirely? The rules seem more favourable in the States for putting these sorts of cars on the road than they are over here so you guys get to build some pretty exciting things.

We could do it several ways, but mostly, it'll just be the 1941 Chevy. That's easiest.

The Flowmaster exhaust is on. It sounds a little too quiet, but we can always change that later. I used the muffler from the 'Old blue truck, when it received it's Borla kit. I was going to route the exhaust tip out of the same hole that the original fuel filler neck formerly occupied, because the gas tank on the Durango exits on the other side. So I cut a big round hole in the rear fender for the exhaust tip, stuck in place and stepped back to look at it. EEEeewww gross. Not right at all. So I wondered if I could take the flat panel and the filler neck pocket off the parts truck I have out back. I grabbed a grinder and cut that section out. I bent it by hand into a subtle curve and welded that sucker into position. When you open it, it houses the Durango filler cap, just like a modern car. WIN. Over the next 2-3 days, lots of work is planned, seats, dash, floors, wings, front grille... Let's see how far I can get! Pics for your eyeball pleasure:

That filler cap solution is nice, the sort of thing you don't really notice straight away.
