Have been doing a few bits, I sorted most of the wires under the bonnet and fitted the new wiper motor etc. most of it is done, just waiting on some bits. The original washer for those of you who don't know the joys of beetles does not have a pump, it uses the air pressure on the spare tire to power the washer... not the best idea... So I chopped the valve for it out and replaced it with a micro switch that is connected to an early washer bottle I had. I also linked it in to the wiper so it seems almost like a modern car, ooh err I hear you say. I also split the fuel tank due to finding plenty of rust when I took it out, I gave it a clean, then welded up the old fuel outlet and baffled it a bit. It will get some new outlet and return fittings when I get the steel tube. I only have copper. I also picked up some bits so I can finish all the front brake setup.

I got the back end together again, so now it just needs cleaning up and painting... I'm fitting bonnet pins as there are no hinges any more, I'm waiting on some bits but I think they will look ok and not too max power. The stock seat runners are no more and the seat tubs have been raised.

Not much to report at the minute due to cash flow, both seats are fitted and pan is all done, I have done an exchange of skills with my associate Nick as he is handy at bodywork and I hate sanding. As the floor is in I have measured up and I'm making the battery tray, I'd like to use an old school leather strap on it but I think it might end up being a bit loose. We will see I guess.

There are allot of finishing bits to do on the front, as the end stops for the steering were removed on the narrowed beam I made this add on to the steering box fixing bracket.

. Wicked project mate ;D In the pic below on the lower end of the steering rack there's a round bush held in with 4 bolts (2 pointing down and 2 up). I need a bush like this for my Cossie ERST steering rack. Could you tell me if this is a standard beetle part, and if possible the size of it. I've been trying to source one for ages Cheers, Ginger .

Hi mate, yeah it's standard, it's a steering column coupling. You can also get them in urethane etc. Not sure of measurements, I'll measure it next time I'm down.
We have a local place called Walker Rubber and Plastics that make up stuff like that, it's in Norwich so might be a bit far to come for you but I'm sure there is similar places all over.

Fuel lines are in, so is brake line. The gearbox got a clean over with a wire wheel and I made a 40mm raised gearbox mount with the original. I slung the box in last thing today so I can start cleaning and sorting the rear transaxle assembly. It won't be long before the engine goes back in...

It's been a while. I've been stuck at work and on fiddly bit on the car elecs and so on. The old grills are not that great so I made some oak ones still need to give them a finish and fit them. The air intake is almost done, the filter is one I have for now, new one at some point. It needed a bracket made up so I made a small tube one and it works a treat. I've also started with the fuel, now I need more fuel hose and a battery then It should be ready to fire.

That's gonna be an absolute animal when finished. I really hope you post some 'first start up' and first drive' videos on here - the noise will be phenomenal I reckon!
