Kids are the worst. My three keep asking to "lend something from me" when they really mean they want to borrow something unless it is cash when I know if they "want a lend" I will never see the cash again. Another good saying is "my teacher learnt me it". WTF dose, dos, does, do`s that mean ? It would appear to be the younger generation who are quite illiterate. Chevy or Schevy ?

I'm driven mad by seemingly the vast majority of people on ebay who cant understand the difference between Consul and console! There are a lot of "centre consuls" for auction! Whatever they are!

well I've got a ford console classic then PS the Rialto was launched as the Reliant Robin Rialto if I remember rightly (I've been trying to blot it out but no... sigh) which leads me neatly to.... people who still call a rover 100 a "mini metro"

Apostrophe's in the wrong place, I have a T-shirt that says "The boy's are back in town" so that means that the boy is are back in town. WTF!

BTW Grizz, I'm a bit pedantic, like yourself. In fact quite a lot. (alot?) Strictly speaking, you're a pedant. What you say or do is pedantic. ;D

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Actually, it makes less sense than that! It says (unspecified possessions)of the boy are back in town. You also don't need an apostrophe to pluralize apostrophe. Good tip about the wd40. I'll remember that one

VW Beetle that was never really called a Beetle. tut tut tut.. common mistake... it was never called a beetle here. nore in germany, but it was marketed in its later life as a beetle in america, and brasil up until its death the name caught on, and i think the vwoa kinda forced it thru too, as they had and still have a massive power over vw germany.

My biggest car name gripe, when people add an A to the end when they say Porsche. Jeremy Clarkson is bad for this but then he always pronounces Volkswagen with a V in the middle. Dave. thats because thats how the german accent would pronounce it... volksvagen , probably a bit of a subconcious thing realy... german car, german sounding name, pronounce it in german... The porsche/ porsche'a thing bothers me too... what kinda guy would have been called Ferdinand porsche'a

Kids are the worst. My three keep asking to "lend something from me" when they really mean they want to borrow something LOL. That used to get a Geordie lad I went to Uni with in a right tizz; Dave: Wye ay Ad, can I lend a tenner? Me: Yeah, go on then, it'll save me going round the cash machine. When will you need it back? Dave: Hey? How about Mike Brewer and his MitsubUshi's?!

I have so many lols in this thread!
I'd like to similarly request an answer as to why every man and his dog can recognise a Mini, but about 17 people outside of this forum would know what you meant by 'Morris Mini Minor'.

Its not...its an austin seven. Oh no, wait.. the grille bars are straight not wavy. You were right. Morris Mini Minor. My bad!
why do 7 out of ten schoolchildren think the cortina is an american car? and the other three pronounce it corteeeenar (even though I am in north west durham not north west london)

Apostrophe's in the wrong place, I have a T-shirt that says "The boy's are back in town" so that means that the boy is are back in town. WTF! I think you'll find that that is actually correct, the apostrophe is there to tell you that there are multiple boys.

I thought 'the boys are back in town' was correct, whereas if 'the boy's Mini Metro' was included in the song (a possession of the boy) then the apostrophe would be used

Apostrophes in "Boys" could be put before or after the S, before the S means something that is owned by a single boy, after the S means a group of boys. Which means it's wrong, arrr I'm confusing myself I don't even know anymore!

But it referring to Burt and Ernie (the boys in question) the apostrophe therefore is in the wrong place I believe. (My sister gets annoyed by it to the point where she can't look at it)

Look. It's really simple. 's after a noun indicates possession (the boy's car) . No apostrophe is a plural (the boys). Apostrophe after the s is a plural possessive (the boys' cars) Other uses for the apostrophe are in marking omissions like they're (they are) and I'll (I will) - the apostrophe in these cases takes the place of the first missing letter. The only really difficult case is remembering which of these is correct for "IT IS" (as opposed to possession of IT) It's or Its and, seeing as how we are now gloriously and wonderfully off topic by at least a country mile...... I must confess to calling them 'Robin Reliants' when i was a kid. We all did back then(70's/80's). But i soon grew older and wiser ;D
So many of the above grate with me also. But the two things that really wind me up when reading car ads, are the use of 'cills' instead of 'sills' and 'breaks' instead of 'brakes'. Arrrghh!
