Hi! I've been waiting to have my own car again for a few years after my Fiat Tipo (RIP) blew up on the motorway in 2006. Been driving my parents Renault Scénic since then, whenever I've gone back to see them or needed to transport things. Just bought a Citroën AX RE from 87. It's the most basic model, 1L engine, no more than speedo and petrol indicator on the dash, no fog lights, 5-door. There are plastic bits filling all the places where other equipment should be. Really gives you the finger saying "this is where there should be an optional extra but you were too cheap!" There's an extra antenna and cable to fit a CB radio. A CD player fitted by the previous owner. A lovely brown/beige interior, and a single-spoke steering wheel. Quite a lively car. It'll do nearly 80mph. I got it to 70 on the way home from the seller's and it felt pretty solid. It's in great nick! just need to have the wheels aligned better and a new silencer fitted. Only tiny specks of rust on the door edges. I raided my parents garage for suitably retro care products: a rust-treating nail varnish thing, scratch polish and grey bumper renovator. I'll do some before and after photos when I set to work this weekend. Just got some dawn photos for the moment. I fancy fitting some AX GT alloys, front bumper with foglights, and wing extentions. All pretty cheap if I find the right seller. Going to keep the interior very 80s. Analogue clock etc. Need to finish the tedious task of getting rid of the rear window stickers.

I think the single spoke steering wheel is just for early models. What a sweet wee car.

Thanks. Just got a bit of a costly garage bill for front tyres and suspension and brake stuff. Oh well, couldn't have done it myself and the purchase price was good so I'm still reasonably pleased with the whole deal. Especially with how tidy the body is. The guy actually had to call Michelin cos the tyres are so hard to find. They suggested a more modern, rally tyre! When I get a bit of money put aside I'd like to get a cheap donor car. Pity I can't do that now, I've found a good one in my town for 200€ with alloys and other goodies.

Not much news just a couple of titbits. Hopefully getting some mudguards and spotlamps soon. Had enough of driving blindly at night. Also need to fix up a GT bumper I bought. I'll probably ziptie it first then do a proper job later on. Finally got the stickers off the rear window. My ice scraper didn't work, it was wearing it down! So I ended up using the seatbelt bucle. Drastic but it did the job and the glass is fine.
I'm thinking I'll respray the wheels white again and maybe do the centre caps a different colour that I'd repeat down th side grooves of the car and the the front grill.

Cheers. I wan to lower it. I love how the tuck looks with the squared-off arch. Like your Polo. But chopped springs won't pass a French MOT and can't fork out for a new set-up. Not got the know-how either.

Just a small update to show the mudflaps I've added. I get quite a lot of mud along the sides so thought it would be a good idea. And I like em. Braved the freezing wind this morning. Was a bit annoying as the front plastic inner wheel arches are very slim and the rear bumpers only have a thin bit down the side, so I could only fix them down one edge and not widthwise at all. And the wheels were getting in the way of the screwdriver. But they hang quite flat against the body, and I'm sure they'll hold. They're much wider than the factory-fitted ones which are barely more than the tyre width. I'm quite pleased with the result. What do you think? I need to spray the wheels white for a nice clean rally look.

Decided to try fitting the spotlamps before starting to fix up the bumper Not tightened or whatever. It's a curse word to fit despite just 2 bolts and 2 sliding blocking things. I had an idea of fixing the lights to the supports with quick release bike wheel thingies i.e. To not damage them when not needed, and not get them nicked cos my car is parked in the street a mile from my flat. (city centre parking...)
