Hell yeah, bangernomics. Spend as little as possible on the thing you're going to stack milage onto and thus strip value from. With your budget and the distance involved, don't sink your whole budget into the car. Buying a five grand motor is no guarantee that it won't spectacularly fail, leaving you skinted and needing to get to work. RE the petrol/diesel argument - how good are you with Excel? (Spreadsheet, not wedgy, unreliable Lotus) Plug in the cost of petrol locally versus the cost of diesel locally using 35mpg for petrol and 45mpg or even 50mpg for diesel and see what the difference is (or isn't) over a couple of months. Diesel is more expensive as a fuel, diesel cars are more expensive to buy because the market believe that they'll save a bundle. Obviously it's going to vary from person to person, but in the real world how much difference does petrol/diesel make to driving style? we're probably talking about older cars here, so the diesel version is likely to be a bit slower-so will be driven everywhere 'with the hammer down'. I'd be interested in seeing any figures which give me an excuse to buy a petrol instead of a diesel.

My Opel Monza Brown on Recaro Brown velour Recaros. Best interior ever. Well to be fair, your brief emphasised red/brown/tan whereas the other thread threw open the doors for a celebration of extreme interiors. But to add to your request... Never seen interior plastics that colour in a Scimitar before; is it a Middlebridge?

Big expensive batteries However, one of these (a Morrison Electricar F): ...has a wheelbase exactly 2" longer than a Suzuki SJ. I'm sure there's an easy way round the engine having to be in the cab.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! It's not exactly the same as the Rolykit one, it's hinged rather than having a bit of old seatbelt round it, and obviously it's a different colour. €15 in the Carrefore supermarket in Cite Europe, Calais.

Did anybody else look at this solely as they had still have a thing for Elvira in their teens? Yes. Although I did have to correct what you said slightly

Rather than mounting the speaker directly to the front panel, couldn't you mount two speakers to a frame so they fit behind the tuning panel (so that still 'works'), in the space where all the valves and that are. Obviously you won't hear it in stereo, but you'll be using both channles on the amp and getting the volume from having two speakers. Looks like there would be room to mount at least the battery in the lid.

Given your comments on the 406, I suspect you may rule this out, but personally I think the quirks outweight the newness. Cheap sub-£500 car - easily Loads of load space - plenty Diesel (If it runs on veg, even better) - yup Estate ideally - that too Previous mechanical knowledge advantageous - XUD, so yes Decent MPG - yes Comfortable - supremely

That's pretty much the only comprehensible word I can get out too. I opened the thread expecting it to be something special, and was still taken aback. There's something a bit '90s DB7 about the rear flanks.

I found a load of magots in the boot of my 1st car....a few weks later I found a load of flys. There's a lesson to be learned there. If you find maggots, don't look again.

Really sorry to hear this. It doesn't seem worth claiming, as the insurance company's £500 valuation, less the scrap value, less your excess will be next to nothing, unless you're going to be liable for the storage charges; as someone has already said, you'll have to disclose the accident to your next insurer anyway, so your premium will prbably go up whether you claim or not.
Everyone else: please, please take one lesson from this thread-DO NOT let the insurance company take your car until you've agreed what's happening with it, and how much you're getting.
I'm not basing this on rumours, secondhand stories, or internet speculation, I worked in insurance, and there's really no need for them to take the car in most cases. Someone's got to drive to where the car is to inspect it, makes no difference to them whether that's on your drive or in a scrap yard. A few do value (usually lower value) cars on the basis of pictures taken by the salvage agent, but there's usually some way round that.

Obviously you think parking on hills has some negative effect. You've both got open drinks in the car that you didn't want to spill? Preventing potential oil starvation problems? Snooker table, mid game, in the boot?

A mid-engined pickup? What an impractical idea; least space-efficient place to put an engine in a pickup.
Having said that, I want one.

MkIII Supra; what Michael Knight would have driven if he'd needed to go round corners. That is almost perfect. Personally I'd drop the back an inch or two to lose the rake, but that's all I'd change.
