Had a bit of time today so I sorted out the sagging nets on the back of the seats with some new elastic. Hobbycraft makes me feel uncomfortable, it was a strange experience wandering around there... Before and after: I also took off the plastic vents on the C pillars to investigate some rust - wish I hadn't. There was an invoice in the car's paperwork for £200 for body repairs and it would seem this is it:

Progress - got springs! Should be renting the proper spring compressor from MrSpeedy on here, so once I've got that it's time for lows. I'm also doing the engine mounts soon to hopefully cure the vibration when idling. I also gave the car its' first proper shampoo and polish... somewhat overdue. Safe to say I'm rubbish at taking photos, however I have demonstrated my expert editing skills in the second pic to give it that scene vintage feel

Make sure you drive the Pacific Coast Highway, it's beautiful. Even after an 11 hour flight I'm always ready to jump in the car and drive from LAX up north to Oxnard where my dad lives

MrSpeedy will hopefully be sorting me out, I figure it makes sense to use the proper tool because not only is it safer but it makes the job a lot easier, especially as I'm doing all 4 springs.

I'm going to be lowering my 190e soon and I don't feel like taking any chances using normal spring compressors. I seem to remember someone on here had some for hire at some point. This is the sort of thing I'm on about: And a lowered 190e for your troubles: Anyway if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

The ECP springs have been discontinued, but I've just ordered the GSF springs for £60-odd. Now all I need to do is try to borrow the proper mercedes spring compressor...

I have seen the GSF springs but the website has been showing them as out of stock for quite a while now, might be worth giving them a ring? GSF + the forum discount is a winning formula though, it has to be said.

No that's not the car I was thinking of but that thread is exactly the sort of info I was looking for, many thanks. Those gunmetal wheels look great on the first car

Those C class wheels look good stevecrx, definitely an option to think about. My preference at the moment is definitely for the SLK wheel, if anyone knows the proper name for it I would be grateful. There was a 190e for sale on the 190 forum a while back that IMHO was perfect, it was a darker grey than my car with the SLK wheels and a subtle drop. I just tried to find a picture of it but it seems the ad has been taken down, stwat you might have seen it?

I've had this car for a few months now and I figure it's about time I started a thread for it. It's a completely standard Merc 190e 2.0 auto, apart from the nasty stereo! It's my second 190e, the first one met it's end as a result of the head gasket going bang and not having the facilities/time/money to fix it. I really like these cars, they're nice to work on and the build quality and attention to detail is a lot better than on some of the Peugeots I've had. It's also surprisingly cheap to insure for a younger driver - far less than a smaller engined E30, for example. I found this one on eBay and bought it sight unseen (silly, I know). It was advertised as having a 'slight misfire', which I thought probably meant trouble with the K-Jetronic. Anyway, I got a lift down to Exeter with a mate and managed to drive her back, even though she'd been standing for a few months. I made the amateur mistake of testing the electric windows before making the return trip, so I enjoyed Exeter - Southampton with a back window wide open. Southampton - Reading was done with a carrier bag taped over the door as it was raining heavily! The misfire turned out to be a bit of a funny problem - the car would run perfectly when cold, but when it warmed up it would stutter and miss. I stripped down the injection system, cleaned it up and put it back to spec to no avail. Eventually, the problem got so bad that the car just wouldn't run once it had warmed up. I changed the ECU temperature sensor, which actually made things worse, before deciding that the best thing to do would be to try to source a complete injection system off another car. I found one from a 75,000 mile car, which I fitted along with new injector seals, spark plugs and thermostat... Result! It runs beautifully now, apart from the first cold start of the day which takes a few turns of the key. It's so much smoother now and it's much more powerful than it was before, making it a rather lovely thing to waft about in. Work done so far: -Transmission & torque converter drained and refilled with new ATF and filter -Power steering fluid & filter change -Coolant flush -Injection system, spark plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, thermostat -Rocker cover gasket -New pressed plates as the old ones had naff Mercedes badges on them! -Welding to rear subframe mounting for MOT, had a rusty jacking point welded up as well. Anyway, time for some (fairly poor) pictures. I'll take some better ones soon! I had a bit of a go at it with some boiled linseed oil, this is the only 'after' pic I took but it works really well, I was quite surprised. These are the plugs that came out before I swapped the injection over: So there you have it. I'm pleased with the progress so far, which has mostly just been getting it up to standard. Plans for the future? -Lower on 40mm springs and maybe thinner spring pads to try to keep the comfortable ride. -Tighten up the drivetrain with new propshaft couplings, engine mounts and gearbox mount. -Find a nice set of Mercedes alloys. At the moment I'd really like a set of these, found on SLK's: Or maybe some 15-holes, which were a factory option on 190e's: If you spot any of the SLK wheels at a breaker's or know of a set for sale I'd really appreciate a heads up, I missed a set on eBay not long ago but they don't seem to come up for sale very often. Any opinions on wheel choice are welcome!

All you ever wanted to know about breathers: www.106rallye.co.uk/members/dynofiend/breathersystems.pdfLooks like the oil leak could be coming from the camshaft seal, easy way to find out is to get the whole area clean with degreaser then run the engine for a bit or take it for a short drive, then you should be able to see exactly where it's coming from.

I make this journey quite often so if any smaller parts need moving it's worth asking. Can take anything that will fit in the car.

Worked at John Lewis, as a waiter, delivered pizza, went to uni, dropped out because the course was a waste of time / money, worked as a letting agent, quit because the boss was an absolute curse word.
I think I enjoyed pizza delivery the most! Now looking for an apprenticeship of some description, I just want to actually be DOING something :/

It's only because of my age, the engine swap didn't seem to be an issue at all. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

My old 205 had the Bosch pump, J reg, and I've definitely seen some 205 TD's with the Bosch pumps as well. I think it just depends on what they had lying around! This might shed some light: www.dieselveg.com/Vehicle%20List.htm

Plenty of 205's are fitted with the Bosch pump, I think only very early 306's had the Bosch pump. Swapping a Lucas for a Bosch isn't too hard, there's a guy on the 306oc who will do the swap, change the cambelt and tune the pump for £100. I may be wrong here, but I think the Bosch pump is quite common on Citroens like the ZX and Xantia? Happy hunting!
