I think the float or needle valve is sticking or the float is holed and sinking, and the float bowl is overflowing. I can't remember for sure but I think that hole is the float chamber breather. That would also explain why the engine is running like pooh.
A rebuild will sort it!

What sort of Weber is it? Should be stamped on it somewhere, perhaps on the side of the flange where it bolts to the inlet manifold.

Oddly there's no really solution, some people have used the full swift clocks but I want a standard mini look. Getting a cable made would work but would read wrong. Some people have used push bike computers, others have shelled out for a smith gauge. Speedo isn't required for an MOT For some reason I thought a working speedo was in the 2012 additions to the test. Apparently not!

Bit of a long shot, but I'm looking for some plastic wheel arch trims for my Nissan Patrol. Does anyone have any?!

Is a GPS speedo MOT compliant though? I think I read somewhere that it wasn't, but I might be wrong. Plus, GPS is inaccurate on hills (where they like to put speed cameras). Swift engined Minis seem to be quite a popular conversion, is there a tried and tested method that others have used? No point re-inventing the wheel if there's a good solution already out there!

9 years ago, blimey! Funny how things change, isn't it? And people for that matter.
The original poll results seem to be broken. Tried to fix them but to no avail. It would have been interesting to see the results (although judging by the comments, fairly easy to conclude what they would be)
Everything will be cool again. All that's needed is for the people who were "there" to be old enough to get nostalgic, and for a new bunch of people too young to remember it the first time around to adopt it and re-interpret it.

I quite regularly do Lancashire to Notts / Leics, so if needs be I can do that leg of the journey.

BenzBoy I was concerned when I saw Joe had deleted his account and asked around the Area52 guys. Bruce has since spoken to Joe and all is fine, he's just focusing on the more important things in life at the moment Nice one, glad he's OK! Car projects sometimes have to be put on the back-burner - most of mine are currently.

Uh?! What happened to your account, Joe? Really enjoying this build (even if it's making me feel guilty about not getting on with my own car). Please come back!

Oui!
Me and my brother were talking about doing Classic Le Mans next year (well... we were talking about it last year too...). An RR tie-in would be even better.
Personally I would prefer to get there under my own steam and just pay for the venue and camping. I think keeping it to a budget would certainly help, as the fuel costs will be fairly considerable for many.
I've had a cursory look at the Classic Le Mans website in the past and actually found it a bit confusing as to which tickets get you what, and how much it would actually cost. Maybe I'm just being a bit thick though, it wouldn't be the first time!

Volvo Cream Yellow is nice on the T5-R, I think. *Edit* Do Flickr photos not work on Proboards now?

Really nice photos and write-up as ever, Seth! I've not been to FoS for over 10 years and I always promise myself that I'll go "next year"...

Are those black marks you are trying to tackle raised, or are they actually recessed in the paint? Definitely looks nothing like tar..... Some of it is completely flat - it feels smooth when you run a finger over it. It's weird! Other areas feel a little rough but the black stuff doesn't scratch off.

My Bond, by quite a margin, is the ugliest car I've owned. I can only assume that you have blanked that horrific old mazda out of your memory. ... Yeah the 929 wasn't pretty was it?! ...I've driven some mingers haven't I?!

My Bond, by quite a margin, is the ugliest car I've owned. But I love it, because if I didn't, who would?! From some angles it can look great, but that's quite a face it has going on there.

Thanks again for all the well informed advice! Seems I'm up against it to get this paint looking anything like half-decent then! I will have a bash with the clay bar and a machine polish, although the paint looks a little thin in places, such as on swage line edges - I suspect it's had a few machine polishings in the past. I'll just have to go steady. Fresh paint isn't an option at the moment, but maybe in the future.
