I've always been a manual man, however about three years ago I bought my first auto. It's an Audi DSG paired with a 260hp v6 and has the flappy paddles on the steering wheel and I absolutely love the thing!
It's very good fun. Not lazy like I assumed they would be, however I don't know if I could go with a normal auto. They seem a bit boring.
Every other car I've owned (40+) have all been manual.
I am looking for a cheap hack, work run, a few runs down to Devon and Cornwall in the summer and I'm in a right grind as to if I should go for a auto or manual. I think auto scares me as there is a lot of room for failure.

Nearly a year later and I've just removed this from another car, so back up for sale.
Additional photos to come in the next week or so.

I think what concerns me a lot with this chap is he is selling log books for split screen campers (provided I've read his listing right). As we all know there is a huge amount of money in these things, even rotten old pears.
If the fading of V5s for such sought after vehicles is causing an increase, or even just making the process of theft easier, something certainly ha to be done.

I really like these things. I had a 1997 108D as well a few years ago however a lorry blew it to bits.
I think over the coming years the following for the vito will grow. I've owned a T4 as well as a T5 (T5 isn't really compatible to the vito as it was too new) but I honestly enjoyed the ownership and experience of the Vito over the T4.
I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Looks like it could be an excellent starting place for a cool van.

And this is why tuxman is a freaking hero. Time attack noble to the shops. Why wouldn't you drive your super car to the shops. Exactly! Why wouldn't you! If I had one I'd drive it as far as my wallet would let me.

Thanks for the offer Midland Performance & Retro however it's a bit more than I ideally want to be paying, unfortunate as I am fond of a Subaru!

I bought your Porsche and I'm sorely tempted by this as well!
Darran is a very sound chap, honest, upfront and all in all a pleasure to deal with.
Highly recommended by me!

Thank you all very much for the replies. Interesting to read that Darren, the majority of examples I am finding are the 2.2 version which I have been put off of a little bit, my main concern would have been reliability and consumption with the 2.2 and I was hopeful of a diesel popping up. Unfortunately it certainly seems as though there are few for sale locally. Currently the contenders are a 5 door Vitara v6 in manual or a LWB frontera. I have also been looking at the Honda CRV however once again, I am clueless as to if it is worth looking at. It seems to be far more "toned down" compared to the frontera or Vitara however they appear to have a good following in the US. Think I need to change the thread title!

Hello Neil. Well done on the purchase of a 172, they seem like a cracking car and I've wanted one myself for many years but always opted out, foolishly. Having nearly bought one multiple times I have done a fair bit of reading on them, however my knowledge is very limited and I'd advise further investigations is done and my word isn't taken for gospel. From what I understand the 172 has a dephaser pulley and an auxiliary belt that runs behind the cambelt, replacement of all parts is equally as important as failure of the aux belt results in the cam belt going with it. From what I understand the dephaser pulley can not fail, but will cause a mighty racket if it's failed. I used to use www.cliosport.net as they certainly seem to know their stuff. I am lead to believe that a belt on the 1*2 range is not quite as simple as a majority of things and has lots of areas to slip up. Perhaps a question or two on cliosport may provide you with more definite answers that what I've given you here. Good luck with the car.

I have a 1967 MK2 Morris Cooper, when I bought it there wasn't much of an interest in them yet over the years they've increased in popularity some what.
The original engine, which I still have tucked away in the garage, was problematic, expensive and pretty dull. So I put a Nissan engine in it. 1/10th the cost of a replacement head for the original engine, twice the power as standard, 5speed box, reliable, predictable, munched up the miles and all in all made for a very pleasant motoring experience, hence why I did it.
I took it to multiple meets and stuff and I was guaranteed to get a remark somewhere. "You want 10" wheels on that rather than 13"s". Well if the wheels offend you come and have a look at this!
I build a car for myself, what I want and what I like. If people think I've ruined it that's fine. It's not parked in their garage. If we was all the same it would be pretty dull around here.

As bizarre as this will probably sound, please hear me out.
I am after a large vehicle.
It must have 5 seats and the rear seat must be of a large and useable size.
The boot space must be substantial enough to take a very decent load.
Engine size, again it isn't that important however LPG is preferred, as is diesel, large capacity petrol is on the bottom of the want list.
It must have working air conditioning.
I have been looking at estates of varying types. 4x4 are also excellent, P38, ML and so on.
I am not interested in French stuff or fords to be honest. Doesn't have to be retro, modern is fine as well.
Price wise I want it as close to £500 as possible, location wise south east is preferred unless it's extra special.
Pleas PM me of you have anything remotely suitable.
Thanks.

Hello chaps.
I am looking at buying a bike in Colchester. It's a mobile running bike. I've just sold my truck and don't have access to a van anymore.
Would anyone in the area have a van like to earn a few quid? Currently on Shipley but prices are pretty extreme (£160 (had cars recovered for significantly less).
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies chaps.
So am I right in thinking the Frontera B is MK1 and frontera A is MK2? The opposite way to the corsa, vectra and Astra?
Price wise I'm looking at spending total peanuts so my choice is every limited. However I am hoping that continuous searching my prove fruitful.
Off road are they capable?

You want a paint stripper containing dichloromethane and phenol. Both removed from Nitromors, now. As a rule, any stripper in a metal tin is sh!te. You want one in a plastic container. You can buy dichloromethane separately quite easily. Mix this with a standard paint stripper and then you'll have something worth using. I do it with great results.

The frontera is a really good shout and something that I think I prefer to the Vitara. I have found a local Vitara for fair money but since looking at the frontera there seems to be a whole load more space on offer. Was they branded as the Isuzu rodeo?
I read Isuzu trooper springs fit for a 2" lift?
Shame all the ones near me at the moment are rather expensive. Did they come in diesel 1.7 form?

I've got an incredibly awful dash in my 944, it's a square dash so the same as the one in the 944.
My cracks are some what like the Grand Canyon and I feel in my case the best way of repaor will be to try and pull the cracks back together, seal them with some sort of epoxy and then recover the dash, flock or one of those leather skin covers.
What car is it?

I think you guys are forgetting the vehicle and therefore the size of these things, the largest Irwin nutgrip is 19mm, landrover wheelnut is 27mm on a 16mm thread. I have never dealt with land rover so that's something I'd have no idea about. Welcome for raising that point. In which case my input is invalid. Edit As strange as it seems, would a grinder spanner unlock it?
