So the nightmare continues... Had all the timing side off to renew cam and crank seals as there was a fair bit of oil behind the covers. Everything went surprisingly smooth until I needed to remove the timing pulley from the crankshaft. Tried heat, WD, prising and pulling but it didnt want to leave the shaft. Stuck some pullers onto the back of it (just, there is no room) and did it not just pull the bloody teeth off! I stopped swearing long enough to drill the pulley, tap the holes then make a puller from a Mazda towing bracket. It still took a good hour to free it. Great. None on ebay, none being broken. Phone nissan I though.... £172 and almost a months wait... I don't think so. Thankfully after a lot of searching reliantreviver managed to get one for me and sent it first class. Legend points awarded here. Unfortunately the guy i've bought my seals off hasnt even remotely tried to send them quickly for me so I cant even get the work done until next week. Ive also bought these... Coilovers Already welded into nissan bluebird hubs, and with top mounts (youll see why I need them in a minute), so I can just bolt them on! Quality. Should hopefully have them for next weekend so in preparation, and seeing as the car is off the road anyway, I decided to endeavour into the world of cracking paint and rolled the arches. Front were flared and rears were just rolled flat. Should be fine to lower it now Before: After: Despite making the paint lava hot it still cracked, so I just went wild and flared the curse word off of them. Going to paint the arches black then eventually do the whole bottom half of the car anyway. Doing the rear drivers side arch I noticed the shock wobbling about. What could it be I thought.... oh yeah just the continual pain and suffering I get from this car Yeah, top mount split. Whoopee. good thing the car is already off the road and the suspension has top mounts on it already! Thats it for now. Still off the road and still forcing me to cry myself to sleep for another week-ish.

If it is the same as CA18ET lump, than yes, I certainly do. Any chance of a pic of the naffed one? Yes! Well, it should be! I think only the DET is different as its DOHC. As the ET is SOHC it will almost 100% be the bit I need. As you can tell I had to drill and tap holes into my one, then use a big piece of steel as a strongback and pull the thing off the shaft. Still took forever.

Oh, and the Nissan part number is 13021-D0100.
I don't know how that would help... I'm just hoping I can get one quick.

Try oval banger chat, some guys there banger race bluebirds, you may get an engine cheap ? Put an ad up but nothing yet. Engine is next on my list if I cant get a sprocket by itself. I know a guy with 2 spare engines who is supposed to be taking one off from me but I havent heard anything back as of yet. Still looking for one of these... All CA16s, CA18s and CA20s engines have the same one. So all bluebirds and prairies. I think old R30 skylines have too but i'm more likely finding a bluebird! its a small 20 tooth gear wheel/sprocket. Really not much to it but Nissan seem to think it warrants £172 and a months wait.

Wanted to replace both cam and crank seals on the bluebird when I did the belt. All went swimmingly but when I put the puller onto the timing pulley to take it off one of the teeth decided to pull off. After having a look at appears that the other 2 next to it have also started to pull away from the pulley at the back.
Ive trawled the internet today and no luck. Nobody is selling these. I have to wait until monday to phone nissan because it seems like the only place I may have a chance ordering one. I've contacted a few breakers and made parts requests too but still nothing.
Please tell me someone has a bluebird or at least a CA16s engine that I could have one of these from! Otherwise I havent got a clue what i'll do.

Awesome Bluebird is Awesome! I remember my childhood friend's mother had one of these in red on a D plate. My dad had a BX at the time, also a D plate. He used to ask who's car was better and I told him the Citroen, but I always thought that it was really the Nissan. Single handedly the comfiest car I've ever sat in (even more so than the BX!). I haven't seen one in a long time, and maybe it was just because I was small, but I remember it seemed HUGE inside… like a cruise ship! Look after her dude, they're rare in that nick! All the best, Scott. Cheers dude. Well there have been plenty of arses in these seats over the years so they are more like tweed buckets. Not as comfy as my mx5 was but not too bad She will be getting looked after. Underneath the tat is a clean car haha. So while trawling ebay for Bluebird goodies I saw someone selling an original 80s nissan roof rack. Won it for £5.50... It doesnt do anything... maybe i'll say its there to hold the roof on. I have nothing to put on it I just think it looks the balls.

Car looks great, I was contemplating doing the police spec after seeing robinxr4i's micra. Settled on the taxi as I'm lazy;) good to know about the gearstick as I've been struggling to change mine and didn't want to force it! Can't wait to see it finished! Thanks Yeah his micra is what pushed me towards doing the vinyl! It just looks mad and I like mad. Like the taxi look though, its subtle enough to be cool. And yeah, that was the only way I could get it off and it shredded the knob in the process. You'd need to summon the power of thor to remove that with your bare hands. This weekend was interesting! Girlfriend has been after a car to start learning in and seeing as i'm the resident car guy I went on the hunt. Looked at a few things. 106s, rotten micras, clios etc. and then found this wee gem. £700 for a 98 civic hatch with 73k and a pretty full service history. Owner was a top bloke and had a couple of new-ish audis so you could tell it had been pretty well looked after. Its an auto-box (she just drives around town so I suggested it for ease) but she's learning in a manual so no big deal . I love it and have already said if she ever comes to sell it i'll be first in line! The cheaper cars we'd seen had all needed £150-200 worth of work just to be safe so the civic is ideal. Plus its japanese so it means I can indulge myself Also got a steering wheel boss for the bluebird so my grip royal finally has a place to sit! The command center... Ive also done an oil and filter change, and got crank and cam seals so I can go ahead with a cambelt change when I have time. Still need to fix my exhaust leak and a couple of wee oil leaks but she's running as sweet as a nut and I love the attention it gets

Couldn't resist a little photoshop. Hope you like it That Looks epic! 80s graphics are classic. Cheers for that Love how those wheels have come up and look great on her....I personally would leave as she is is now (IMHO) Thanks, but on a forum like this i've come to expect (from myself now as well) that things just don't get left alone hahaha. Appreciate everyones comments. Comforted in the fact that its not just me that likes it! Well I had a shift extender sitting around from the mazda, and figured if I didnt try it on then I wouldnt be much of a retro rider haha. Had to use a pipe wrench to get the old knob off. Glued onto the threads! So a gearknob I found in a drawer was recruited and takes pride and place atop my gear stick tower. Much smoother to shift and makes a surprisingly nice arm rest in 4th. Last night I was pretty bored so figured I better make something for the car. Do a lot of vinyl wrapping for mates so I have heaps of black in tubes lying around. Of course that meant it was the perfect opportunity to try out a zokusha police spec whale tail on the bonnet Trying out for size: On (also gave it some angry eyes just because) : Yes! I love it. So I'll get some more vinyl and carry on. I know the paint isnt white so it isn't quite kosher but I'm not too fussed.

Looking for adjustable coilovers for a mk2 golf and a splitter/trap from a mk1 golf to aid my boso project Coilovers need to be in useable condition and complete. I'd need them to be fairly cheap and able to be posted unless you are around Aberdeen! Cheers

Oh, and it will be mk2 golf coilovers i'll use! I was going to attack the springs but because the shocks are shot it'd probably be best to replace them anyway. Better get practising my welding again!

This looks great!!! Painting it up like a taxi with a roller sounds horrendous though, smacks a bit of 'desperate modder syndrome'. Cheers And no if I went taxi the paint would be staying as is. It was just when I was considering a J police car it would obviously need to be vaguely rollered in black and white haha. For now it will be staying the same dull beige/silver its been for the last 26 years until I can figure out what to do with it And yeah I think a lot of bluebirds went to the banger racers because they are so tough. Either that or they are sitting in a farmers field somewhere with grass growing from them. Shame really as they are a good fun solid every day car! Went and got the tyres put on the slags today so I had all the pieces to the puzzle. Rears went on fine but stuck the fronts on and they wouldnt budge. Tits. Used the age old method of the grinder to take a couple mm from the calliper bracket and then painted them black to hide the marks. Look awesome and don't catch so I'm chuffed Fitment is absolutely sexual but it is in obvious need of some lowerage. Parked her up to pick up a curry and had to take this when walking to pick up the car because it just looks awesome also notice that sweet mr2....

Right, time to get stuff done. When I picked up the Slags I also got a radio from Overdrive. I didnt get one when I bought the car and it was really doing my nut in driving everywhere in silence. Managed to find the kenwood adapter cable for it in halfords and plugged it in. To my surprise it all fired up right away! Ariel went up and radio 2 started blasting from the two front blown speakers. Quality. When investigating the rear speaker problem I noticed that behind the radio there were two odd looking connectors pushed back down the centre console. I pulled them back up, found some female looking plugs and stuck them together. Aha working rear speakers... intermittently. I pulled the rear speakers out and was greeted with 67 metres of speaker cable for each one, and the classic home brew twisted wires which i've grown to expect on any car I buy now haha. All properly connected now however and the stereo is actually pretty good! And its becoming a theme with things that I buy from Tommy that I get a free CD... Onto the Slags however. When I bought them I was just going to stick them on but due to them being roughly 40 years old and kerbed/chipped all over I thought a new look might be in order. Tried doing the centres plasti-dip... Which failed because the plastidip stuck the the masking taped and peeled itself off Then nitromorsed them to get the thick silver paint off and it wouldnt budge. Decided this was clearly homer potential so I took them to work to blast And the paint still didnt come off. Managed to key it all however so there went my plans of polishing the alloy. Unfortunately also there were loads of chips in the paint which I was hoping would be filled after a few coats of primer. Back to halfords for paint. And set up an expert professional spraybooth, in my shed. It did the trick, so onto the "aluminium" colour paint. It made them look atrocious. Way too bling bling for me and to make matters worse the silver made all of the chips 10 times more obvious. Then went lacquer. As soon as I started spraying it it made the paint look dull. Initially I thought the worst but by christ they look bloomin lovely. Made all of the chips and dings hardly even noticeable and the finish is ace Heres a comparison. The SAME wheel. First with the silver paint on, and then with the lacquer on top. You can see what I mean about the silver paint haha. Bought some Slotmag wheel nuts from a bloke who owns a place called raceways and he's been top notch in helping me get the right ones. Also have some tyres to go on this weekend and the spigots are here too... so hopefully by Sunday/Monday I should be wide!

There's no point going to the trouble of fitting coilover sleeves if you're gonna just wind it down onto the bump stops. TBF even if you don't there's still not much point on stock shocks they'll be far too soft. The idea was that I could put them on and be able to adjust the height to my liking rather than cutting a bit, seeing if its low enough, then cutting some more and going too far! Plus it means if I change wheels that require the car to be higher or lower then it gives me that option. It wont be going down to the bump stops... It'll be at a reasonable height I'm not interested in ride quality or performance...the springs. And that way I have the standard ones to pop in for the mot. Was just a thought, maybe I'm being an idiot? Haha firstly I speechless that you are not bothered about the ride quality or performance (read HANDLING) and the fact that you think you will need to change them back to standard to pass an MOT means that you also think that they are not road worthy. Its an £800 bluebird not a track car or a rolls. I want it to be low and silly. Ride quality doesnt bother me and performance... well again i'll take out the £800 bluebird card haha. I use it for cruising around in so as long as they suspend the car and dampen the bumps in some way (not sitting on the bump stops) i'll be chuffed. It wasnt the fact that I don't think they are roadworthy I just thought it would save me any hassle with an MOT tester as it'll sail through with standard springs.

Debating what method to lower my 88 bluebird. Mk2 golf coilovers are an option but as the rear shocks are pressed/welded in it will be a bit difficult to do them on the drive at home. I was going to cut the springs but I know some people run universal coilover sleeves. What would be better? I'm not interested in ride quality or performance... These words aren't usually related to an 80s bluebird anyway . I'm just thinking for ease. I think sleeves would be alright as I can at least adjust them rather than have one chance at chopping the springs. And that way I have the standard ones to pop in for the mot. Was just a thought, maybe I'm being an idiot? Haha

I really hope it is insane... its such a laugh having a car you can do anything to and not have a care in the world. I love it News! Wheels were trial fitted to check fitment. Results: Win! Noice! Just need a set of tyres and to sort out what kind of wheel nuts/adapters I need for these. They are tapered but also have a recessed part at the top of the hole. My standard tapered nuts don't fill them properly so I'm assuming you can buy adapters/new nuts to fit this kind of wheel somewhere? Any ideas? Also, check out this underside.... Caaaaw. Absolutely spotless 26 years on! I'm liking this car more and more. Then I fitted something I've had for a while. My boso style windscreen banner which reads "retro heroes". It was destined for the Mazda which is why its blue and gold but since I was selling it I thought id save it for something special.
